Competition Pool The competition pool is used for lap and recreational swimming and aerobics classes. It is home to our Brenham High School and Junior High Swim Teams, the Dolphins, and the Brenham Swim Club. Therapy Pool The therapy pool is intended for young children under the age of three and over the age of 18. It is equipped with a wheelchair ramp and chair lift. Snack Pack: Meal Pack: $2.50 per person: drink, ice cream $5.00 per person: choice of hot dog, corn dog, or Frito pie, drink, ice cream Parties During Operating Hours You may bring a cake and decorations. Single serve juice boxes are allowed. No other outside food or drinks are allowed. Minimum of 6 guests per party. Admission is $5.00 per swimmer. $2.00 non-swimmers. Birthday child is FREE. $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold date & time. Parties can last up to two hours. Available during regular operating hours. Private Parties After Hours Private parties must be reserved at least two weeks prior to the event; $100 deposit is required. (If deposit is NOT paid within 2 weeks, date will be released and open for rental.) Fee includes guests admission and lifeguard coverage. No alcohol or glass containers are permitted inside the facility. All rules which apply to the general public must be observed. 6 Aquatic Programs Water Works 1 hour This class offers a range of moderate movements to improve range of motion, balance, and coordination while strengthening and toning the body. Try your first class for free. Class instructors: Debra Healy and/or Jane Moorhead. Sessions Pool T/Th/F at 10:00am - 11:00am M/T/W at 6:00-6:45pm Therapy $20 for 5 punch card + pass Junior Guard 3 hours 30 minutes Designed for youth ages 10-14, American Red Cross Junior Guard provides a foundation of life guarding and life skills. The Junior Guard program focuses on five key areas: prevention of aquatic accidents, fitness and swimming skills, response in an emergency, leadership skills, and professionalism of a lifeguard. Participants will attend a classroom session and then have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with our lifeguards as well as shadow them to learn about response and providing care. All participants will receive a t-shirt and materials. AquaCARDIO 45 minutes Offering a wide range of aerobic exercise, AquaCardio is an intense class in our cooler water competition pool. Class instructor: Debra Healy and/ or Jane Moorhead. On top of becoming Red Cross certified, a valuable life skill, I ve had the chance to meet people from all around my community and teach swim lessons to children of all ages. 7 Swim Lessons specified in chart below Level I - Participants start by getting familiar with the water. They practice entering and exiting the water, learning to float on their front and back, opening eyes under the water, as well as exploring underwater. Level II - Participants learn to tread water, glide on their front and back, explore swimming on their sides, swimming on front and back using combined strokes, as well as rhythmic breathing. Level III - Participants learn rotary breathing, begin the butterfly stroke, diving from kneeling and standing positions, front crawl, and back crawl and the survival float. Private lessons will enroll 1-2 students per class. Fee per student is $70 and consists of four 30 minute lessons. Instructors can be requested or will be assigned by BBAC management. Private lessons are dependent upon instructor availability. Adult Swim Lessons Learn to swim, exercise, or learn new strokes. Adult swim lessons are done on an individual basis. 8 American Red Cross Certification Courses Lifeguard Training 30 hours Teaches participants the skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Visit cityofbrenham.org/parks for list of prerequisites. Minimum age of 15. Does not include book. Lifeguard Instructor Training (LGI) 30 hours Trains lifeguards to teach the Lifeguard Training Course. Prerequisites: Minimum age of 18, must be a current lifeguard, must pass a skills challenge of basic lifeguard training, as well as the basic lifeguard training written test by 80% or better. Lifeguard Recertification 5 hours This class is designed for ARC Lifeguard certifications soon to expire, or recently expired certifications. Participants will start with all prerequisite skills in the water. Participants must be prepared for in-water and land skills and rescues. Following testing of all skills, participants must take and pass written exam. 10 Athletics Blinn Baseball Spring Training Camp Join the City of Brenham and Blinn College Buccaneer baseball team for a three week Spring Training Camp beginning January 26, During this time, participants will interact with collegiate athletes and learn the fundamentals of America s greatest past time - hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and pitching. Price includes a t-shirt. This program is for children ages Little Diggers Our annual Little Digger Volleyball program is back! Join the Brenham High School volleyball team as they teach basic fundamentals including passing, setting, and serving. Price includes t-shirt. This program is for girls 3rd - 6th grade. Fireman s Park designated as Lone Star Legacy Park The Texas Recreation and Park Society honored Brenham s Fireman s Park with the Lone Star Legacy Park designation. A Lone Star Legacy Park meets strict criteria including at least 50 years of history, a distinctive design, and association with events specific to the local community. 11 Other City of Brenham Programs & Special Events Walk with a Doc Walk with a Doc is a walking program for everyone interested in taking steps for a healthier lifestyle. What better way to start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improve your general health to live longer. While you walk at your own pace, you will have the opportunity to have 4 th Saturday each month Hohlt Park 9:00am - 10:00am questions answered by local physicians. Program begins in January and will be held the fourth Saturday of every month. Lead physicians: Dr. Eric Alford and Dr. Jennifer Jones. Movie in the Park Entering its sixth season, and getting bigger each year, this event brings families and children of all ages together for a fun, appropriate, and safe evening of entertainment. Officers cover topics such as criminal investigations, S.W.A.T. & hostage negotiation, building searches, traffic stops, and narcotics & gang enforcement. Chris Jackson at Library Birthday Party The Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library will be celebrating its 114th birthday on February 12, Special activities for adults will be held at the Blinn Janis Sneed Banquet room in the morning and an afternoon children s story time will be held at the All Sports Building. Make plans to be a part of this special event and celebrate with our community. Splish Splash Spring Break The Blue Bell Aquatic Center is open for recreation swim all week. Watch for special coupons online at cityofbrenham.org, brenhamtexas.com under hot deals, and Facebook. Ads may also be found in the Banner Press. Participants will be divided into appropriate age divisions with each division given a separate field to hunt on. This program is for children ages 2-9. Every Hero Has a Story - Summer Reading Program Join us at the All Sports Building for the 2015 Summer Reading Program. Starting on June 2nd through July 14th we will have special guests and activities every Tuesday. Children up to age 12 will have the opportunity to win some great reading prizes! 12 Wilderness Survival Camp This week long camp is for those who are just getting into outdoor survival. Skills covered will include basic shelter construction (debris hut and lean-to), locating and purifying water, making proper fire structures, hunting and trapping methods, edible and medicinal wild plants, rope making, and July 6-10 Varies from day to day 8:30am - 12:00pm $ much more! A small daily snack will be provided and all materials are included. This program is for children ages Hot Nights Cool Tunes Main Street Brenham presents the 11th annual Hot Nights Cool Tunes in Downtown Brenham. Three Saturday nights in July will feature a different band. Visit downtownbrenham.com for more information about the entertainment and sponsors. Camp CASCADE Camp CASCADE is designed to teach our youth some of the basics of survival skills, swimming skills, rescue skills, CPR & First Aid, as well as lifeguard skills. We will touch on swim strokes, diving, rescues, lifesaving skills, and some basic boating/ canoeing skills. This program is for children ages KIDFISH Hundreds of pounds of catfish are dumped into the outdoor leisure pool and anglers of all ages can attempt to hook the big one. Bring your own pole or use the ones on site. KIDFISH promotes fishing, the outdoors, and simply spending time with family. Trophies are awarded to the top catchers. Christmas Stroll & Lighted Parade This family fun event kicks off with the lighting of the Courthouse Square Christmas trees and is followed by the Downtown Parade of Lights. This light-filled, old-fashioned parade winds through the streets of downtown and finishes with a special appearance from Santa Claus arriving on a fire truck. Downtown businesses will be open before and after the parade.
