The Rebels went 2-0 last weekend, defeating San Jose State on Friday 1-0 and Fresno State 2-1 on Sunday. Redshirt-senior Denali Murnan scored the lone goal of the game in the 41st minute to defeat the Spartans. The Rebels used two goals in the first half to beat the Bulldogs. Sophomore defender Chidera Akubuilo converted a penalty kick in the 24th minute to give UNLV the lead for good, and junior forward Brittney Gideon added another goal in the 32nd minute. With the win, the Rebels improved to 4-0 on Sunday games in October. Six different players have scored at least two goals this season (five players have scored one goal) in a balanced attack for UNLV with senior forward Jodi Barber leading the way. Barber has six goals and 14 points and started in 12 straight games. Gideon and Murnan have also chipped in four goals apiece. Redshirt-junior Susie Bernal has successfully bounced back from missing 2014 with a knee injury with eight points, and all three goals scored have been game-winners. Murnan, a returning all-conference selection, has served as a creator in her midfield position. With five assists this season Murnan s 13 career assists rank her tied for fifth on the all-time career assist leaders at UNLV, and Bernal is close behind her in eighth place with 11. Clark has started the last eight games in net for the Rebels and has recorded three shutouts in that span for a record. In eight games this season Clark has a 1.32 goals against average,.804 save percentage and 45 saves. SCOUTING NEVADA, RENO Nevada, Reno sits in 10th place in the conference and eliminated from the conference tournament with a , record. The Wolf Pack were shut out on its trip to California last weekend, losing to Fresno State 1-0 on Friday and 2-0 San Jose State on Sunday. Nevada, Reno has a 1-5-0, record on the road, defeating UC Davis 2-0 in nonconference action on Sept. 11. They have not scored a goal in road conference games. Senior midfielder Lindsey Salcido leads Nevada, Reno in scoring with six goals and 15 points. Freshman midfielder Hannah Miller ranks second with four goals and eight points. Salcido and Miller have combined for over 43% of goals scored for the Wolf Pack. Senior forward Erin Saxton is the only other player to score more than one goal. Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Qunitos has played every minute in net for Nevada, Reno. Quintos has recorded a goals against average of 1.23, 78 saves, three shutouts and a.772 save percentage. CHAMPIONSHIP IMPLICATIONS The Rebels currently sit in a four-way tie for fifth place in the conference with one game remaining in the regular season with Utah State, Boise State and Colorado College. The top six in the conference advance to the conference tournament that beings Tuesday, Nov. 3 in San Diego, Calif. The Rebels can advance and not advance regardless if they win against Nevada, Reno. Here are the scenarios for a win and loss for UNLV to advance: Win (18 pts) In the MW Tournament with losses by either Wyoming, Boise State or CC. In the MW Tournament with a Wyoming win and a loss by either Boise State or CC. (UNLV would finish first in a three-way tiebreaker over Utah State and CC, but would finish third in a three-way tiebreaker vs. Boise State and CC) Loss (15 pts) In the MW Tournament if Fresno State, Utah State and Colorado College lose. (Holds three-way tiebreaker vs. Utah State and CC) ALL-TIME SERIES UNLV is all-time against Nevada, Reno. In home games, the Rebels have outscored the Wolf Pack 23-2 at home for a record. Last year the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in Reno on Oct. 31. SENIOR NIGHT Four graduating seniors, Jodi Barber, Nicole Candioglos, Denali Murnan and Samantha Weber, will be honored before the game at the last home contest of their UNLV careers. After transferring from Barton College, Barber made an immediate impact. In her first year as a Rebel she posted a pair of goals, played in 18 games and made 14 starts. Known for her ability to strike a ball very well, Jodi is the team s leading scorer this season with

She will graduate with a degree in kinesiology in Candioglos has been an integral part of the team over the past 4 years. Playing in 17 games last season and 18 this season, her hard-work and commitment has allowed her to be an anchoring force in the midfield. She will graduate with a degree in hospitality management in Murnan was a two-sport athlete for most of her career, competing for UNLV on the women s soccer and basketball teams. In the 2014 season she led the team in scoring with 12 points off of 4 goals and 4 assists. She was the only member of the team to earn post-season honors, being named to the Second-Team All Mountain West team. A captain of the team, she graduated with her undergraduate degree in Finance in May 2015 and is currently working toward completing her master s degree. Weber is a two-year captain for the Rebels. She has started all but 2 games of her entire career. Sam has anchored the defensive efforts from the backline. In the 2012 season she helped the defense post a school- record of 10 shutouts. She scored the first goal of her career this year against New Mexico in a 3-1 victory. She has been a force academically as well, being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team in She graduated in May 2015 with her degree in Kinesiology and is currently working toward completing her master s degree. SUCCESSFUL RETURN FOR BERNAL After missing the 2014 season with a torn ACL, Susie Bernal made a triumphant return to the field in her first game back, scoring the lone goal of the game midway through the first half in UNLV s 1-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Aug. 21. Adding to her comeback success, her two other goals this season have also been game-winners. She provided the golden goal in the 99th minute of the Rebels 1-0 win at Northern Arizona on Aug. 30. Against Hawai i on Sept. 18 she scored the game-winner eight minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 tied score. Her assist against on the first goal scored against UTRGV moved her to ninth on the all-time career assist leaders at UNLV with 10 total. ASSIST RECORD UNLV ranks second in the conference in SINGLE SEASON ASSISTS LEADERS total assists with 30, assists per game (1.58) 1. Macy Jo Harrison (2012)...8 and in assists per goal (1.11). SMART COOKIES UNLV has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the academic year. This is the seventh straight year the Rebels have received the award. The NSCAA Team Academic Awards were given to collegiate soccer teams who posted a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. A total of 859 soccer teams from Division I, II, and III received this prestigious award. UNLV was one of 554 schools that had their women s programs recognized. The women s team posted a 3.19 team grade point average. This marks the eighth time the women s program has received the award since 2007.

Both teams also split the three points available as part of the Governor s Series contest, the all-sports competition between the two schools that is presented by NV Energy and presented by Barrick Gold. This is the second time in three years the teams have split their game and the points in the Governor s Series, following a tie at Reno in 2012 as well. UNLV won the points in 2013 with a 2-1 overtime victory. Friday s contest is also the third straight between the school to go to double-overtime. The two goals in the game came within a 3:12 span early in the first half. The Wolf Pack scored their first goal in the 14th minute when Chrisalyn Fonte sent a high arching shot from 20 yards out into the back of the game. That lead was short-lived however, as senior defender Kristen Sankey tied the game for the Rebels in the 17th minute, thanks to her free kick from 30 yards out that got past UNR goalkeeper Devyn Bryar. That was the final goal of the game, despite UNLV taking a total of 15 shots in regulation, including all eight shots of the second half. With no additional score, the game would go into overtime, and UNLV again dominated the action with a 6-1 margin on shots, but it could not cash any of the scoring chance into a goal. UNLV s final edge was 21-6 on shots, and 10-2 on shots on goal. Corner kicks were also 9-1 in favor of the Rebels. Jordan Sallee made one save for UNLV, while Bryar recorded nine for the Wolf Pack.

11 2015 UNLV WOMEN S SOCCER GAME NOTES PAGE 11 CHRIS SHAW CHRIS SHAW HEAD COACH SECOND SEASON METHODIST 97 Chris Shaw became the sixth head coach in program history on May 21, In his first season guiding the Rebels, he led a team that featured only five upperclassmen to a record and helped coach Denali Murnan to Second Team All-Mountain West honors. Shaw came to Las Vegas with a wealth of coaching experience, having spent the past 11 years coaching at the collegiate level. Most recently, he served as the head women s soccer coach at Barton College in Wilson, N.C. Taking over a Lady Bulldog program that had posted just 12 total wins in the four previous seasons, Shaw made an immediate impact by leading the 2013 squad to a mark - the second-best record in school history and the second best improvement in Division II that year as well. He guided the program to its first winning season and first Conference Carolinas Tournament appearance since 2008, and its first tournament win since For his work in turning around the program, Shaw was named Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Four players from the 2013 team were named All-Conference Carolinas, three were selected as NSCAA All-Southeast Region, and one became just the second NCAA Division II women s soccer All-American in Barton s history. Prior to spending the past year at Barton, Shaw was the associate head coach at North Carolina State for a total of four seasons. Among his highlights with the Wolfpack was recruiting a pair of All-ACC Freshman players, while the 2011 squad earned a mark, which was the best for the school since Shaw s first Division I job was at current Mountain West member Fresno State, where he served as assistant coach from , with the Bulldogs reaching the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2008 WAC championship. Shaw s first head coaching job was also in the Conference Carolinas, guiding the University of Mount Olive from 2003 to His second year at the school set a NCAA Division II record for single-season turnaround, finishing at 20-3 after a 3-15 mark the year before. Combined with his turnaround at Barton, Shaw is the only coach to have two difference teams on the all-time most improved record list for Division II. The 20-3 mark that season earned him conference coach of the year, while the team also led the nation in scoring offense. The Trojans won their first-ever conference championship in 2004, and finished both the 2004 and 2006 seasons ranked in the 10 top in the region. Shaw finished his career at Mount Olive with a record. Other coaching positions Shaw held include three years as an assistant men s coach at Methodist University and a volunteer assistant role at East Carolina in the 1995 season. He has been heavily involved on the club soccer side as well, most recently as the Capital Area Soccer League Coach since His West Coast experiences include two years as a girls coach with California Odyssey and the Region IV ODP Girls Coach in the summer of From 2009 until accepting the UNLV job, he served as North Carolina Olympic Development Head Coach. Shaw was an All-American at Methodist, helping the Monarchs to four-straight conference championships and four NCAA tournament appearances. He earned Adidas Scholar-Athlete All-American honors in 1993, was named the Methodist University Male Senior Athlete of the Year, and was a member of the USA South Conference 50th Anniversary Team. After graduating in 1994 with a bachelor s degree in biology and physical education, he played professional soccer for the Raleigh Flyers of the USISL in Shaw would earn his masters of Arts degree in exercise physiology in July of 1997 from East Carolina.
