NT can clinch a spot in the C-USA tourney with wins this weekend, but it will need help to gain a bye. Complete C-USA standings can be found in the back of the notes package. Nobody Does It Better North Texas, for the second time this season, ended a three-game skid in the city of Houston. The Mean Green ended its first three-game losing streak in Houston against the Cougars, and used the city as a streak buster once again against the Owls, a unit picked to win Conference USA in the preseason poll. A View to Many Kills Sophomore superstar Carne Dillard is unleashing on her opponents of late. Averaging a team-high 4.24 kills per set, the San Antonio native has been crushing the ball. With her 31-kill onslaught in the loss to Marshall, Dillard moved into the top 10 in career kills, and she is continuing to climb the rankings. She now sits at ninth following the win at Rice and needs two kills to overtake eighth place all time. She has also found a starring role on the backline, now averaging 3.37 digs per set. She grabbed careerhigh figures in digs recently as she tallied 26 against both Southern Miss and Tulsa. The Hitting Daylights Senior Karissa Flack continued to hit at a high percentage for the Mean Green in the matches with Charlotte and Marshall. She posted a double-digit kill outing with 11 against Charlotte, and her two percentages (.500 &.368) were both team highs. Her season attacking percentage of.340 ranks eighth in the C-USA. The Libero Who Dug Me With her 47 digs in its first trip to Houston, senior libero and captain Shelby Tamura moved up three spots in the NT career digs list to 7th and now sits at 5th place following her seasonhigh 25 dig performance at Rice. Shaken But Not Stirred NT won its first five-set match of the season against Southern Miss, and it won its first contest of the year, also against the Golden Eagles, in which it was down after three sets (1-10 on the year when in this situation). The Name s USA, C-USA In its first Conference USA weekend, the Mean Green flew out of the gates, beating C-USA veteran East Carolina and fellow newcomer Middle Tennessee by a total of six sets to one. The start for the Mean Green in its inaugural season in C-USA is the best start in program history in its first year in a new league (Southland, Big West and Sun Belt Conference). Taking Care of her Odd-Job NT hit Houston on Sept. 20 for the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup, a tourney that saw the Mean Green go 1-2 with a five-set loss to LSU as well as a sweeping victory over the host Cougars in their home opener. Despite the 1-2 record, freshman setter Amy Henard took care of business, and her performance earned her the team s first C-USA weekly award as she grabbed setter of the week honors for her 110-assist weekend (.362 set percentage). The Girl With The Golden Arm Senior captain Courtney Windham set a record when she posted a.812 attack percentage, the highest single match attack percentage in C-USA this year. The.812 mark was good for the thirdhighest all time in NT single-match history. She also hit a.750 attack percentage vs. NW State, fifth all-time in the single-match NT records. She added a 12 assisted-block performance vs. TX State, tying the top all-time performance in NT history and cracking the top-10 list in C-USA history. You Only Live Thrice North Texas competed in its first five setter of the season against Idaho, its 12th match of the season. The Mean Green fell in the final set, but the match saw redshirt sophomore Analisse Shannon notch a career-high 16 digs. It also saw two NT players put up career-high killing numbers... License to Kill Some kill records were set in the Gem state as junior Hanna Forst (20) and senior Karissa Flack (15) bot set career highs against Idaho in the final game of the Boise tournament. Sophomore Carnae Dillard led the Mean Green offensively in that one with 28 kills, three short of her career high. Quantum of Los Angeles The Mean Green faced a tough series of matches to open the season including 12th-ranked UCLA. On top of the level of the opponent, NT was implementing a new system under first-year head coach Andrew Palileo. Despite this, NT came within two points of stealing the first set against UCLA and swept Albany in the third match of the tournament to grab its first win of the season. On Palileo s Secret Service North Texas hired its ninth head coach in the spring of 2013 grabbing Andrew Palileo from Ohio State. Prior to his time as an assistant coach for the Buckeyes, Palileo was the head coach of the Washington State Cougars, where he earned a PAC-12 Coach of the Year distinction following an NCAA Tournament appearance in Coming in with a career record of , Palileo is poised to take a roster that lost one senior to a new level in Conference USA.
