1 Parade Info There s nothing better than a Shrine Parade, so bring the kids and have some fun with us. I ve put together some tidbits about the Pote s Call Parades(parades that our potentate absolutely wants everyone to show). The Crier tells you how to get there and where the Afterglow(an after party with food and drinks for the nobles and their ladies as a thank you for participating) is located, but I ve put together some additional information of other things going on at the parade venue. Everyone at Antioch hopes that you will come with your families and support us. If you are new this is a great way to see the different units in action and decide which one you would like to join. We have our purpose of supporting our Shriner s Hospitals, but here is where we can get the word out to the community as well as have tons of fun along the way. If you have any questions please send me an jjamie6636@aol.com Hope to see you soon I m one of the Divan ladies in the pink shirts having a great time! Some ladies carpool up to the parade meeting areas mentioned in my article, but we also will have the Angel Van available for those who want a ride. The ladies gather by the van at the staging area and we will take as many trips as needed to get you all there. Carol Jamieson May 21 st Miamisburg Parade Report no later than 8:45AM. Parade steps off at 9:45AM. This is the kickoff of the parade season. The ladies usually gather in Library Park. This is a great spot to put your chair down, then wander through the craft booths that offer all sorts of goodies. There are also lots of food vendors if you didn t get breakfast before your noble made you get in the car to come to the parade. Spirits are high and the parade offers the usual marching bands, kids baseball teams and of course lots of our Antioch Shriners. Everyone is excited and we get the best participation for this one because they can t wait to show off their polished car, motorcycle, new clown outfit or newest routine. May 30 th Clark County/Springfield Memorial Day Parade Report no later than 7:45AM. Parade steps off at 9:00AM. Clark County s Memorial Day parade has, for decades, honored those veterans who answered the same call but never came home. In Vietnam alone, 62 Clark County men died. It s long been believed that the local parade which begins at High Street and Fountain Avenue in Springfield, then heads north on Fountain to McCreight Avenue, where it takes a left toward
2 Ferncliff is one of the largest of its kind in the nation. This is a very inspiring parade with many Military and Veteran groups participating. You ll leave with a great feeling of patriotism. June 12 th Ohio Masonic Home Home Days Parade Report no later than 2:00PM. Parade steps off at 3:30PM. What a great parade for the people in the Ohio Masonic Home! They line the parade route in their wheelchairs and walkers with smiles on their faces as our Nobles entertain them. A great treat at this parade is the food. Many Masonic lodges will have food to purchase and you shouldn t leave without having the Strawberry Shortcake with ice cream. Yummy in your tummy!!! There are always activities for the kids face painting, bounce houses and last year there was even a ferris wheel. This one is short and sweet, but the residents do enjoy it so much. June 17 th Dayton Airshow Parade Report no later than 5:45PM. Parade steps off at 7:00PM. This parade starts at St. Christopher s in Vandalia and goes down the Crossroads of America. It will have many floats with local celebrities and bands from the area communities as well as our Shriner guys. One year they even had a Transformer that changed into a dragon and spewed fire into the air! You never know what this evening will display to its viewers. I m sure a taste of the upcoming weekend at the Airshow will be revealed. The ladies tend to gather towards the end of the parade in front of the Airline Dairy Crème at 224 N. Dixie Dr. Treat yourself to a sundae, shake or cone while you wait. Visit for additional info. June 18 th Turkeyfoot Hospice Parade Report no later than 9:45AM. Parade steps off at 11:00AM. This parade is for a great cause Hospice Patient Care. The parade is always a fun time - Not only will you see our fabulous Shriners, you will see the crazy people of Indian Lake with their decorated golf carts. They are very creative, so it is very entertaining. The afterglow at this parade is at the Shelter house of the campgrounds. Bring the kids - there is a little play area and a little beach area they can go swimming. Some of the Divan members have been known to get a few laps in the pond themselves so come and have a good time. After the parade and afterglow, enjoy the lake area. There are many bars and restaurants where you can sit by the lake and enjoy the view. Check out Froggy's, Tilton Hilton & Atchison's, they are all on the same street as the parade. Froggy s even has a pool bar!
3 July 1-7 th Imperial Session Tampa, Florida Each year Shriner s International has an Imperial Session. The location changes each year depending on where the Deputy Imperial Potentate s temple is located. This year we are headed to Tampa, Florida. There will be many events during the July 1 st 7 th sessions, so check the crier and Shriner s International website for additional info. The website will have links for things such as the schedule, parade route, competitions, tours, etc. You ve not seen a parade until you see the Imperial Parade! Nobles from all over the country will be participating. One of Ohio s native daughters is famous Wild West celebrity, sharpshooter and markswoman Annie Oakley who became famous as part of Buffalo Bill s Wild West Show. Every year, Greenville, Ohio, Annie Oakley s birthplace, holds the Annie Oakley Days Festival to pay tribute to Oakley and to perpetuate her memory. The parade goes through downtown Greenville and the ladies usually congregate across from the courthouse, because it is the shady side of the street. Before and after the parade Greenville has a sidewalk sale going on. The highlight of this sidewalk sale is the fabulous prices you will find at the Kitchenaid Store. Everything from potato peelers to Arisan Mixers are at discounted prices. If you go north on Broadway you will find the Maid-Rite restaurant, home of the loose meat sandwich. It is located at 125 N. Broadway, drive there after the afterglow and take home dinner. August 13 th Englewood Parade Report no later than 7:30AM. Parade steps off at 9:00AM. This event begins with the 5k race Saturday at 8 a.m. followed by the parade. The ladies will meet by the Dairy Queen across from Centennial Park. There will be many shops open downtown with sidewalk sales and a farmers market to satisfy your
5 shopping urge if you are so inclined. The afterglow is put on by the Champaign Co. Shrine Club and they do a wonderful job. If you want a fabulous slice of pie visit the Urbana Airport Café after the afterglow. I recommend the butterscotch! On the way out of town there is a great craft mini mall that sells scrapbooking supplies and beading supplies. Hope to see you at this one. October 2 Minster Parade Report no later than 1:00PM. Parade steps off at 2:00PM Wow this is a great one. Oktoberfest is in full tilt in the city of Minster for the weekend. Great food and crafts and one of the best parades of the season.
