She allowed just two walks and gave up two hits in 23 at-bats (.087) to limit a Golden Hurricane squad that came in with a.336 team batting average. Stevens outdueled two-time All-American Aimee Creger, who had 11 strikeouts, too. Creger made one mistake though, a solo home run hit by Lauren Chamberlain in the sixth. RUN-RULE WINS AT COURTYARD MARRIOTT TOURNAMENT In the opening two games of the Courtyard Marriott Tournament in Norman on March 7, OU posted run-rule wins over Liberty and Western Illinois. Oklahoma tied a school record with six home runs, including two each from Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley in an 18-3, five-inning win over Liberty. The six homers tied a record set against Pacific on Feb. 22, OU followed that with a 9-1, six-inning win over Western Illinois. ELLIS TWO HOME RUNS GUIDE OU PAST LOUISIANA TECH A five-run first inning and a pair of home runs by sophomore Whitney Ellis carried No. 19/13 Oklahoma to an 11-3, sixinning victory over Louisiana Tech on March 4. It was the first multi-home run game for Ellis as she hit a three-run homer in the first and a walk-off, two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth. She finished 3-4 at the plate, with three runs scored, five RBI and a stolen base. CHAMBERLAIN SETS BIG 12, OU CAREER HOME RUN MARK Lauren Chamberlain broke the OU and Big 12 career home record in game one of a DH vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 28. Chamberlain hit 30 homers as a freshman, 30 as a sophomore and now has two this year for a record-setting mark of 62. It breaks a tie she shared with former Sooner Jessica Shults (61).

In the win, Oklahoma drew 13 walks and stole eight bases, finishing one off the school record. After a 3-1 loss to No. 3/3 Washington, OU rallied for a 7-6 win over Michigan State in the finale. Oklahoma led the Spartans 5-0 after six innings, but MSU rallied for six runs. The lead didn t last long, though, as Pendley delivered a walk-off two-run double, her NCAA-record tying third of the game, in the bottom of the seventh for the win. SOONERS OPEN SEASON 3-2 AT EASTON TOURNAMENT Oklahoma opened the 2014 season at the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, Calif., posting a 3-2 record. OU dropped its season opener to No. 12/14 Kentucky, 5-4, in 10 innings. Oklahoma then dropped to 0-2 with a loss to host-cal State Fullerton, but bounced back with a pair of run-rule wins by defeating Santa Clara, 10-1, in five innings and Loyola Marymount, 11-1, in five innings. In the weekend finale, Leslie Miller s two-run homer was the lone OU hit of the game but it was enough to beat Pittsburgh, 2-1. Kelsey Stevens struck out 10 batters with no walks to keep the Panthers in check. SOONERS TURN TRIPLE PLAY The final score of 11-1 in five innings illustrates how strong the OU offense was against LMU (2/8), but it was the defense that came through with the highlight of the day on a triple play. OU led 4-1 in the top of the fourth, but LMU had runners on first and second. A sharp grounder by Taryn Renowden was hit to junior Shelby Pendley at third base. She stepped on third for the force, threw to senior Javen Henson at second base for the second out and Henson threw on to junior Lauren Chamberlain at first base to complete the triple play. WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT 13 A loss in the season opener brought an end to OU s 13-game winning streak dating back to last season. It was tied as the 10th-longest streak in program history. Being surrounded by the kind of talent that is at OU, and the positive vibes I get from all the coaches, makes me feel confident that I can grow to become an impact player for the team. Coach Gasso Says: We believe that Maggie will really help solidify this pitching staff. She can throw the ball hard, but also move the ball around. She s a focused competitor that has the drive to be great and we re really excited to have her. You can never have too much pitching, and Maggie will get a chance to step forward and really throw a significant amount of innings. Maggie brings something different and unique compared to what we will have, and ultimately that will make our staff more well-rounded and balanced. She will throw it as hard as anyone on staff, and I think she ll be very good. I look forward to playing for the coaching staff and being part of a winning tradition. Coach Gasso Says: Tyler appealed to me immediately because of her athletic look on the field. I ve seen her play shortstop and second base; I ve seen her play multiple positions on the field and defensively she was always a standout. She s very smooth and effortless in the field. Offensively, she has really elevated her game. She has game-changing power and speed, which makes her an outstanding all-around athlete.
