2 GAME NOTES KARP DOMINATES AT JACKSONVILLE Junior pitcher Andrew Karp was lights out at Jacksonville, allowing four hits and no walks and striking out a career-high 2 batters in FSU s 4-0 win. Freshman Jonah Scolaro entered in the seventh inning at JU and completed the game, pitching three perfect innings and striking out four hitters. Karp and Scolaro combined for 6 strikeouts without a walk, a feat FSU has accomplished just five times in school history. The Seminoles lead the country with 3. strikeouts per game and have recorded at least strikeouts in 4 of 6 games and have struck out at least 5 in five games. The Seminole bullpen, led by Jonah Scolaro s 0.00 ERA in 3. innings and Cobi Johnson s 24 strikeouts in. innings, has a 2.88 ERA in 59. innings with a K-to-BB mark. FSU also ranks in the top 30 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4th, 3.83), hits allowed per nine innings (23rd, 6.96) and WHIP (27th,.5). Longest Wins Streak to Open Season RALEIGH DURABLE BEHIND THE PLATE Catcher Cal Raleigh has started 40 consecutive games, with 37 of those coming at catcher. Raleigh started all 69 games behind the plate in 207. The streak ran up to 29 before starting the third game of the UNC Asheville series this year as the designated hitter. He was also the DH in the last game at Wake Forest. Raleigh is hitting -for-20 with two doubles and a home run over his past five games. He is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. MENDOZA BACK AT THIRD Sophomore Drew Mendoza has both of FSU s walk-off hits this season, singles against Troy and UNC Asheville on consecutive Saturdays. Mendoza leads FSU with a.407 batting average and is reaching base at a.500 clip. Mendoza entered FSU as the highest-rated player to enter college in 207, and when healthy, he delivered. He played first base in 207 but has flipped to the other side of the diamond for 208. Mendoza has an active 8-game hit streak. 3 FSU vs. 208 OPPONENTS GAME NOTES Opponent All-time Martin FLOWERS, WELLS LEAD SEMINOLE OUTFIELD Outfielders J.C. Flowers and Steven Wells have stood out for the FSU offense to start the 208 season. Wells, a senior from Key West, ranks 2th nationally with 7 walks drawn and is 26th in the country with a.538 on-base percentage. Wells hit in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career in the first two games at Wake Forest last weekend. Flowers, a sophomore from Orange Park, is hitting.3 with a.455 OBP. Flowers missed the final two games at Wake Forest and will miss Tuesday s game against Florida due to a sore throat. He started 67 of 69 games in centerfield as a true freshman in 207. Flowers has hit five doubles in 42 at-bats this season. He hit 4 in 23 at-bats in 207. LUECK LOOKS TO JOIN ELITE COMPANY Junior outfielder Jackson Lueck has led the Seminoles in batting average each of his first two seasons, hitting.379 in 206 and.38 in 207. Lueck is attempting to become just the third Seminole to win three-consecutive team batting titles, following Doug Mientkiewicz (993-95) and DJ Stewart (203-5). Despite missing 3 games in 207, Lueck improved his doubles (-) and home runs (4-9) from his freshman season. Lueck saves his best baseball for the postseason, hitting a combined.467 in eight ACC tournament games (207 MVP) and.306 in the NCAA tournament in 6 games, including.342 in 207. In 208, Lueck is the only Seminole with two home runs. His second homer of the season came last Friday at Wake Forest, breaking a 2-2 tie in the 7th inning in FSU s eventual 7-3 victory. APLIN GETTING HOT Senior first baseman Rhett Aplin hit.400 over the past week. His third double of the week scored Jackson Lueck in the ninth inning at Wake Forest and gave FSU a 3-2 lead. Aplin leads FSU with six doubles and is fourth on the team with a.29 average. He hit.322 and had nine doubles and six home runs in his first season with FSU in 207. SANDS DEALING ON THE ROAD In six road starts over the past two seasons, junior Cole Sands is 4-0 and FSU is 6-0 in Sands starts. In his first start this year, Sands allowed two runs and tied a career high with nine strikeouts in six innings in FSU s 7-3 win over Wake Forest. In 207, Sands had a 4.85 ERA and allowed three or fewer runs in four of his five starts in true road games away from Dick Howser Stadium last year. FIRST STARTS ON THE MOUND Sophomore Clayton Kwiatkowski pitched 3. innings vs. Kansas (3/6) in his first career start. He is the eighth current Seminole to start at least one career game. The video board replaces the old scoreboard and is nearly seven times larger than its predecessor, which had been in place since the 2004 season.
