2 HEAD COACH JIM GANTT Jim Gantt is in his 19th season as head coach of the Catawba College baseball program. Under Gantt, Catawba has posted six 40+ win seasons and 15 straight 30+ win seasons. He has guided the Indians to eight regional appearances with a career record of Gantt led the Indians to their first College World Series appearance in 2012 and earned ABCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors. Gantt was named South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year for the seventh time in 2014 as he led Catawba to both the SAC regular season and tournament crowns. In 2006, Catawba went and won both the SAC regular season and tournament titles. The Indians were ranked as high as #2 in the nation that season. Gantt also earned SAC Coach of the Year honors in 2004 after guiding the Indians to its first-ever berth in the NCAA II Regionals. In the first game of the doubleheader, Brooks went the complete seven-innings, walking three, hitting one and fanning six. Catawba s last no-hitter was a combined effort in 2003 with the last complete game no-hitter coming in WHARTON SWINGING HOT BAT Senior T.J. Wharton is batting.511 after about a month of the season which is second best in the SAC as of Feb. 24. He also ranks among league leaders in RBI, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. ALBERTSON PROVIDING POWER Junior transfer Will Albertson has been the power bat for Catawba early on. He leads the team in home runs with five and has connected in back-to-back games heading into the Newberry series. He also shared the team lead in RBI and runs scored. STILLMAN SWEEP Catawba swept its three-game series at Stillman on Feb. 13 and 14. The Indians reached double digits in runs in all three wins and reached 20 runs in the finale, marking the second time this year Catawba has scored 20+ runs in a game. JOHNSON CONTINUES TO SHINE Freshman Connor Johnson continues a solid start to his collegiate career, notching his third win in as many starts. He threw five shutout frames vs. Stillman and has a 1.65 ERA over his 16 and a thid innings. Johnson has surrendered 10 hits and walked five while fanning 18. INDIANS SALVAGE FINAL GAME OF OPENING SAC SERIES Connor Johnson improved to 2-0 and Ryan McClintock notched his first save as Caawba topped Carson-Newman 6-3 to take game three of the opening league series. Catawba lost two one-run games to start the series. RICHARDSON GRABS SAC HONORS Shortstop Dylan Richardson grabbed the initial conference Player of the Week honors after he batted.727 with 10 RBI and a pair of home runs in Catawba s opening series of the year. The junior helped Catawba win two of three games, hitting a grand slam and collecting seven RBI in the 27-7 win to begin the season. SEASON-OPENING BLOWOUT Catawba tied a school record for runs scored in the season-opening 27-7 thumping of Belmont Abbey. The Indians had back-to-back eight run frames in the sixth and seventh innings while scoring in each inning but the first. JOHNSON POSTS SIX SHUTOUT FRAMES IN COLLEGIATE DEBUT Freshman Connor Johnson won the rubber game of the three-game series with Belmont Abbey, tossing six innings of scoreless ball. The lefty allowed just two singles and walked with eight strikeouts. NEWCOMERS OFF TO HOT START Catawba had to replace several positions in the starting lineup and several made a quick impact. Infielder Kyle Smith, who played both second and third, drove in nine runs off of seven hits in the first weekend series. Freshman first baseman Chance Bowden doubled and knocked in four while posting a.500 on-base percentage. Transfer catcher Will Albertson homered and had six RBI in the first three games.

6 PLAYERS IN THE PROS Catawba has produced 22 MLB Draft picks and 11 since 2008 with at least one players drafted in each year except for CURRENT PRO PLAYERS *Jerry Sands (Cleveland Indians) Sands has seen action in the majors with the the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays. He broke in with the Dodgers during the 2011 season and played in 70 games over two seasons before being traded to the Boston Red Sox. After he just a few months with the Red Sox he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. After being released by the Pirates he signed with Tampa Bay in Sands appeared in 12 games before a season-ending wrist injury. He was signed this off-season by Cleveland.
