The Sooners continue to grind through spring break with a pair of midweek games at home. On Tuesday Oklahoma hosts Big 12 foe TCU in a non-conference match-up and then takes on Arkansas-Little Rock on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for a 6: pm first pitch. About the Sooners... Oklahoma is 11-2 at home this season and 15-5 overall. Last week s Big 12 Player of the Week, junior Mac James is currently hitting.472 with 17 RBI and 18 runs scored. The Sooners have five starters hitting.3 or better, including sophomore left fielder Hunter Haley (.362) with a team-high 22 runs and 17 RBI and freshman third baseman Sheldon Neuse (.3) leads the team with 12 extra-base hits and 19 runs scored. Eight OU pitchers have thrown more than 1 innings with an earned run average below 4.. Sophomore RHP Ralph Garza Jr. (1.2) is 3- with four saves in 13 relief appearances. On the Air... Both games will also be televised by Sooner Sports TV with Chad McKee (p-b-p) and Jay Payton (color) on the call. Series Sweep... Oklahoma picked up its first weekend sweep of the season with wins over Belmont, 4-3, 6-5 and 1-1. The Sooners won in extrainning, walk-off fashion in the first two games. Redshirt-junior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh delivered the game-winning single on Friday night and sophomore first baseman Anthony Hermelyn followed with a game-winning double in the 11th on Saturday. The OU bullpen pitched 16 innings in the series and allowed just one unearned run. Scouting the Horned Frogs... TCU is 12-7 on the year, and like Oklahoma had a bye in the opening weekend of Big 12 play. Outfielder Boomer White is hitting a team-best.395 with 16 runs and 13 RBI. Outfielder Cody Jones is second at.299 and has scored 15 runs and stolen 13 bases. RHP Trey Teakell is scheduled to start for the Horned Frogs. He is 1- in seven relief appearances with a 2.57 ERA and has nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched. The TCU pitching staff owns a 2.11 ERA and has held opponents to a.22 average. Twice named both the New England Coach of the Year and the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, as well as the 2 American Baseball Coaches Association Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Hughes owns a well-deserved reputation for setting new standards of excellence at every stop during his 17-year coaching career. Hughes recorded five straight 3-win seasons at Virginia Tech, including a pair of 4-win campaigns that culminated with NCAA Tournament berths in 21 and 213. He inherited a club that hadn t reached the NCAA Tournament since 2 and went on to compile a (.561) record in seven seasons with the Hokies from In 17 seasons as a head coach, Hughes owns a career record of (.576), including his stints at Boston College ( ) and Trinity University ( ). Hughes graduated from Davidson College in 199 where he played third base on the baseball team and quarterback for the Wildcats football team. Neuse was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week after batting.529 (9-for-17) in four games. He slugged 1. with a.6 on-base percentage. Neuse went 4-for-4 with two doubles against UTA at Glode Life Ballpark in Arlington on Tuesday. He tripled twice on Saturday against Belmont and scored three times. All-Time vs. TCU... Oklahoma leads the all-time series with TCU, after sweeping a three-game home series in 213; the Horned Frogs first year in the Big 12. Since 28, the Sooners have won 1 out of 12 with TCU s lone wins in that stretch coming in a 212 home-and-home sweep. The two teams traded blows with one win apiece in the 26 Norman Regional as Oklahoma advanced to the Houston Super Regional. Last Time They Met... The Sooners won three narrow, low-scoring games last season; 3-2, 3-1 and 4-3. Game one was an extra-innings victory with Max White scoring the game-winning run in the 12th on a passed ball. Left-hander Jacob Evans nailed down a save in game two and got the win in game three on his way to Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors. Scouting the Trojans... Arkansas-Little Rock enters the week at 9-8 overall and -3 in the Sun Belt following a sweep at Arkansas State. Second baseman Tanner Rockwell is the Trojans top hitter at.35. He has hit three home runs and driven in 18 all while being the only player batting above.3. RHP Chad Bradford will get the start. He is 1- in five appearances and three starts with a 3.86 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 18.2 innings. All-Time vs. UALR... The Sooners leads the all-time series against the Trojans, 21-5, and have played all 26 games at L. Dale Mitchell Park. UALR is currently riding a three-game win streak over OU. The longest win streak in the series is 13 by the Sooners between 1986, the year of their first meeting, and Last Time They Met... UALR swept Oklahoma in 213 by scores of 5-2 and 4-3 in a doubleheader on April 16. The Sooners nearly came back for the split in game two as Matt Oberste launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but the Sooner rally fell short. What a Relief... Last week, the Sooner bullpen posted a.39 ERA in 23 innings of work. OU relievers combined for 24 strikeouts to just eight walks and held opponents to a.16 batting average. Garza made three appearances and recorded three runs, while giving up the only two runs, one unearned, by the unit. Senior RHP Kindle Ladd pitched eight-scoreless inning in two appearances.

James was named the Big 12 Player of the Week a week ago after hitting.684 (13-for-19) in five games. He owned a 1. slugging percentage and.714 on-base percentage. James is riding a nine-game hitting streak and finished the weekend with a 4-for-4 day, his second of the season, to go with his second home run of the season. James was also honored as the Louisville Slugger and NCBWA National Player of the Week. Struggles of a Hero... Alspaugh came through with two of the biggest hits of the week for the Sooners, but the right fielder struggled overall as he hit.111 (2-for-18) on the week. Alspaugh hit the go-ahead, game-winning home run in the top of the 1th vs. UTA on Tuesday and came through with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 1th vs. Belmont on Friday. For the season, he is hitting.288 with 15 RBI. Double Switch... Senior Hector Lorenzana had started all 75 of his career games at second base before the Abilene Christian series. He has started each of the last nine at shortstop, while juniors Keach Ballard and Joshua Ake have taken over second. However, in double play situations with a runner on first and less than two outs, the two middle infielders have been trading positions. Shave for the Brave... On April 3, Oklahoma will join the fight against childhood cancer by hold a Shave for the Brave event following practice. Shave for the Brave works in conjunction with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to raise money for cancer research. The event will also serve as an opportunity for the Sooners in their countdown to 19 Ways. Winning Streaks... After an opening day loss to Seton Hall, the Sooners rattled off five consecutive wins for their first five-game win streak of the season. OU last won five or more in a row when it won eight, beginning with the 213 regular season finale at Kansas State and finishing with a win in the NCAA Blacksburg Regional Final against Virginia Tech. Backup Plan... The Sooner bullpen is 8-1 with a 2.42 ERA and has recorded 93 strikeouts in 85.2 innings. Oklahoma s bullpen put up a string of 15 straight scoreless innings that was snapped in the eighth inning against Citadel (2/21). For the season, OU relievers have tossed 63 shutout innings in the 81 complete innings pitched. Vs. the Top-5... In games against the RPI Top-5, Oklahoma is 4-3 on the season. The Sooners took twoout-of-three from both Seton Hall (28) and Rutgers (34), while falling to Ohio State (42) at a neutral site. Crooked Numbers... Through 2 games, Oklahoma has put up two or more runs in an inning 36 times and three or more 23 times. In game one against Arkansas Pine Bluff, the Sooners set a season-high with seven runs in the first inning. Up Next... Oklahoma s season-opening series against Seton Hall was the second highest opening weekend attendance total in program history as 3,754 fans passed through the gates. The previous record was set in 211 when 4,117 saw the Sooners face William & Mary, the season after reaching the 21 College World Series. Freshman Austin O Brien has also appeared at first base off the bench in three games. On the Hunt for Home Runs... Haley leads the OU power attack with four home runs and 17 RBI. He is sluging.638, which ranks second on the team. Last season, Haley slugged.389 and hit two home runs in 48 games. Haley has scored a league-leading 22 runs. Return of the Mac... James, a transfer from Brookhaven College, appeared in just nine games, earning nine atbats and two hits in his first season in Norman. This season, he has started games at catcher (eight), designated hitter (three), left field (four) and first base (four). James is hitting a leaguehigh.472, slugging.681 and has driven in 17 runs. Lineup on Shuffle... Oklahoma did not repeat a lineup until the 14th game of the season. The Sooners have used 16 different starting lineups. Sophomore center fielder Craig Aikin is the only player to start all 2 games at the same position. 4 Taking First Hacks... The Sooners are outscoring opponents 25-7 in the first inning. Five times, has OU allowed a first-inning run. Belmont did so in each of the first two games last weekend. When scoring in the first inning, Oklahoma is 7-2 and is 9-3 when scoring first. TWI(OU)B History... Oklahoma took two-outof-three in its first Big Eight three-game series of the season over Iowa State in The Sooners won the first two by scores of 9-7 and 11-1 before falling in the finale, 9-8. Damon Minor homered and tripled in the series, while driving in four runs. He was also walked four times in game two. More Runs=More Wins... In each of Oklahoma s first seven wins, the Sooners scored at least eight runs. They are 9- when scoring eight or more, including a season-high 16 against UAPB (2/18). When scoring five runs or less, OU is 4-4. Defending Big 12 Champs... Since 1962, Oklahoma is on opening day and 23-2 when playing the first game of the season at home, including 22-1 at L. Dale Mitchell Park. All-time in home openers, the Sooners are 48-5 going back to 1962, including 32-1 at L. Dale Mitchell. Opening Day Starter... Sophomore lefty Jacob Evans made his first career start on opening day, marking the first time a Sooner pitcher made his first career start on opening day since Zach Neal in 21. Evans is also the third straight lefty to start on opening day, following Dillon Overton in 212 and 213. In the Polls... Oklahoma entered 214 ranked No. 28 in the NCBWA preseason poll. The Sooners also received 66 votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, landing three spots outside of the Top 25. OU finished 213 ranked No. 17 by the coaches. Super Regional... The Sooners last took the field for the NCAA Baton Rouge Super Regional against LSU. After losing a 2- pitcher s duel in game one, Oklahoma was eliminated by the Tigers, 11-1 in game two. Right-hander Jonathan Gray tossed 7.1 innings and allowed just two runs, while striking out nine as OU went down in the opener. Big 12 Openers... The Sooners are 7-9 in the first Big 12 match-up of the season after a 3-2, 11-inning win over TCU last season. OU has won three of its last four conference openers. Oklahoma won its first Big 12 game in the league opener against Kansas on March 15, Preseason Poll... Oklahoma landed fifth in the 214 Big 12 Preseason Poll as voted on by the league s coaches.
