TCU (22-10) HORNED FROGS MIDWEEK PREVIEW No. 8 Oklahoma (24-8) returns home for a top 10 showdown with No. 9 TCU (22-10) in the first of two games between the two. Tuesday s game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park with $.50 hot dogs and cokes while supplies last. OU is ranked No. 8 by the NCBWA, No. 10 by USA Today/Coaches, No. 14 by Baseball America and No. 16 by Collegiate Baseball. The Sooners return seven position starters from the 2010 squad that finished and advanced to the program s 10th CWS. TCU returns 19 letterwinners from the 2010 team that finished overall and first in the Mountain West (19-5). The Horned Frogs also advanced to the 2010 College World Series and lost in the semifinals to UCLA. TCU starter: RHP Erik Miller (1-5, 4.38), who made two appearances against OU in 2009 (0-1, 1.0 IP, 4 earned runs). 2 Week Nine - April 11 Sooners vs. TCU 2 HEAD COACH SUNNY GOLLOWAY Sunny Golloway has led the Sooners to five NCAA Regional finals, 220 victories and a top 25 ranking in each of his six years at the helm of the OU program. In 2010, the Sooners made the program s 10th appearance in the College World Series and first since The path started after OU hosted an NCAA Regional for the second straight year and advanced to the program s second Super Regional appearance. The series win over then-no. 1 Virginia propelled back to the final season at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. OU finished 2010 with a No. 5 national ranking and a overall record, marking the fifth season in program history with 50 or more wins. Fifteen of those wins came in Big 12 play as OU finished in second place in the standings for the second straight year. In addition, Garrett Buechele and Max White were named All-Americans. The run in 2010 was even more impressive when considering the nine Sooners lost to the MLB Draft, a Big 12 best in The nine selections tied for the third most in program history. Since 2005, 34 Sooners have been drafted under Golloway. Including eight seasons ( ) as the head coach at Oral Roberts and his record at OU s helm, Golloway is (.671). Tuesday s game marks the fifth straight in the series that features top 25 rankings for both squads. Seventeen of the games have been decided by one run (OU, 13-4), including seven of the last 18 (OU, 4-3). OU is 9-2 against TCU under Sunny Golloway. ON DECK OU tangles again with in-state rival No. 18 Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Series, presented. Friday s game will be held at OneOK Field in Tulsa at 7:35 p.m. and games two and three are set for Redhawks Field in Oklahoma City. (7:05 p.m. and 4:05 p.m.) LAST TIME OUT The Sooners suffered a 2-1 series defeat at Kansas State. OU dropped the opening game on Friday, 2-0, before bouncing back with a 14-3 win on Saturday. The Sooners dropped a 6-2 decision in the finale on Sunday. OU ADDS MAKEUP GAME TO SCHEDULE The University of Oklahoma baseball team announced the addition of a home game to the 2011 regular season schedule on Monday. The Sooners will host Bacone (Shawnee, Okla.) on Wednesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the game at L. Dale Mitchell Park is free. The game was added to the schedule to make up for the contest lost at Arkansas on March 29. ROCHA NAMED BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK, AGAIN After tossing a three-hit, one-run complete game, senior captain Michael Rocha was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on April 4. It marks the third career honor from the conference office for Rocha and the second of 2011 (March 7). It also represents the fifth time a Sooner has been recognized by the Big 12 this season after Garrett Buechele has twice been named the player of the week (Feb. 21 and 28) and Jordan John was tabbed the newcomer of the week (Feb. 28). OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION UP AFTER 32 GAMES OU has already passed the halfway point of the season. On top of the 16-0 start, the Sooners are also posting some impressive offensive numbers, below is a look at the stats compared with the 2010 CWS team. The Sooners lead the Big 12 in hits with 364 and Oklahoma St. is second with The Sooner offense has outscored the opposition OU has outscored opponents 36,14, 39-19, and in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings, respectively. - Garrett Buechele, the Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 21 and 28, leads the Big 12 with 54 hits and 41 RBIs and ranks second with a.406 batting average and seven homers... Also ranks third in slugging percentage (.594) total bases (79) and is fourth with a.464 on-base percentage - In 20 of the Sooners 32 starts, the hurlers have lasted at least five innings, including four complete games by Jordan John, Bobby Shore and Michael Rocha (2). OU owns four of the 12 complete games tossed in Seven freshmen have seen playing time and 10 newcomers overall have taken the field. - Michael Rocha and the Sooner bullpen limited the Tribe to one hit on Feb.18, the fewest allowed since OU s last no-hitter, a combined effort on March 9, 2005 vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff - Rocha struck out 13 batters in the March 18 shutout vs. Texas A&M, the most by a Sooner since Daniel McCutchen also sat down 13 Aggies on April 7, Rocha, a two-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, has lasted at least seven innings in seven of eight starts with five or more strikeouts in seven outings. Rocha has also limited the opposition to three hits or less in four of his starts Leads the Big 12 with a 1.02 ERA and a 1.58 opponent batting average... Tied for the Big 12 lead with two complete games and ranks second with 61.2 innings pitched and seven wins. SCORING FIRST OU is 15-3 when scoring first this season, including a 5-2 mark in Big 12 play. The Sooners have scored first in four of the last six contests with a 4-2 record. SHUTOUTS Michael Rocha s 13 strikeouts and Ryan Duke s first save of 2011 led OU to a 1-0 shutout over then-no. 11 Texas A&M on March 18. The Sooners have two shutouts in the books, also blanked SDSU 4-0 on March 3, after posting three in OU has also limited opponents to one run in eight games. The most shutouts recorded in a single season during the Sunny Golloway era is five, recorded in 2009, 2007 and 2006.

Bushyhead had two hits and two walks in his first start on March 11 after having surgery on his torn ACL (right) in October. On March 12, Ryan Duke made his first relief appearance of 2011 and did not register a save, but recorded his 14th career win. DUKE IS ALL-TIME SAVES LEADER AT OU Ryan Duke, who is on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list for the second straight year, recorded his first save of 2011 on March 18 vs. Texas A&M and moved into sole possession of first place on OU s all-time saves list (below). Duke finished with 12 saves in 2010, the nation s 12th best total, and ranked second in the Big 12. He led the Big 12 in saves with 16 in 2009 (ranked sixth in the nation), the second most in a single season by a Sooner (Jeff Bajenaru - 20, 2000). He is the first Sooner in OU history to have 10 or more saves in two seasons Ryan Duke present Jeff Bajenaru RECORD START The 16-0 start is the best for a Sooner club, topping the 12 straight wins to begin the 1998 season. Other double-digit undefeated streaks to begin a season include 1984 (11-0) and 1974 (10-0). It marks the longest undefeated streak in the Big 12 era (since 1997), tied with the 2005 Texas team. The 16-game winning streak is also the best under head coach Sunny Golloway and the sixth double-digit streak in his tenure (13 in 2006, 11 in 2007, 11 in 2008, 10 in 2009 and 10 in 2010). Its also the 25th in program history and longest since 1985 (19). TOUGH SCHEDULE The Sooners are 3-4 in games against Top 25 teams this year after defeating then-no. 14 Cal (W, 5-3), then-no. 11 Texas A&M (W, 1-0) and No. 23 Oklahoma State (W, 8-3). OU also dropped two games to Texas A&M and two to then-no. 9 Arizona State. OU is set to face four teams that appear in this weeks top 25 polls, to combine for 12 games. OU also has OSU, Texas, TCU and Baylor left on the schedule. Overall, OU faces 10 opponents from 2010 NCAA tournament (23 games) in 2011, including five foes with 40-plus wins a year ago. OU also will face two 2010 CWS participants (Ari zona State & TCU) and two Super Regional hosts (Texas and Arkansas). THE BIG INNING OU has hit through the batting order 17 times in 32 games. OU had 23 such occasions in In addition, the Sooners have plated five or more runs in nine different innings, including 14 in the eighth inning on Feb. 22 vs. UAPB. The 14 runs tied an OU record for most scored in an inning with the 1998 Sooners that plated 14 in one frame against Emporia State on Feb. 17. ONE-RUN GAMES The Sooners are 3-1 this season in games decided by one run. OU was 14-7 in those situations in 2010 and the Sooners are (.707) under head coach Sunny Golloway. The Sooners skipper entered 2011 with the best winning percentage among Big 12 coaches over the last five years in that category. DOUBLE DIGITS The Sooners recorded 10 or more hits in 17 games this season (42 in 2010 with a 38-4 record), including six out of the last seven and are averaging 11.4 hits per game this season. OU is averaging eight runs per game, featuring 12 contests scored in double digits (23 in 2010 with 22-1 record) OU posted 27 in game one of the UAPB series, the most since exploding for 29 runs on March 22, 2009 at Kansas State. TIME FOR A RALLY In the 24 victories in 2011, the Sooners have come from behind in 12 of those contests. Of Sunny Golloway s 243 wins at OU, 126 (.519) have been in come-from-behind fashion, including 22 last year. Junior Burch Smith followed Rocha and Shore with 7 1/3 innings (two earned runs) on March 6 vs. then-no. 14 Cal. OU has three of the five complete games thrown in the Big 12 this year. The last time two Sooners threw back-to-back complete games also involved Michael Rocha as he and C.J. Blue tossed a pair of gems vs. Houston Baptist on March 10. CROWD ON OPENING DAY AND BEDLAM The Sooners opening day win came in front of a crowd of 1,522 at L. Dale Mitchell Park, the largest attendance at an OU home opener since 1999 (1,680 vs. Emporia State). OU averaged 1,473 in the four games last weekend. The attendance of 2,852 on April 5 vs. OSU, is the 11th best at L. Dale Mitchell Park and the most since 3,064 fans were in Norman for the May 30, 2009 NCAA Norman Regional game against Arkansas. Also the eighth largest regular-season crowd. OGLE ON JOHNNY BENCH WATCH LIST For the second straight season, junior catcher Tyler Ogle was named to the Johnny Bench watch list for the 2011 season. Ogle caught in 42 games last year as he hit.331 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs, while recording a.992 fielding percentage and throwing out 11 base stealers. The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John s Pizza on March 10.

He also appears on the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award (nation s top player). While the preseason accolades are new for Buechele, he was tabbed a second team All-American following the Sooners 2010 season. Buechele led OU in every offensive category. The Arlington native was taken in the 18th round of the 2010 MLB Draft (Texas Rangers). SOONERS FAVORED TO WIN BIG 12 REGULAR SEASON For the first time since 1995, OU is the preseason favorite to claim the Big 12 baseball regular season championship, in a vote of the league s head coaches. In 2010, the Sooners made their 10th College World Series appearance and first trip to Omaha since It marks the first time since 1995 that OU was selected as the top pick in the conference preseason poll. The Sooners have twice been picked No. 2 in the Big 12 preseason poll (1999 and 2001) with the highest prediction under Golloway coming in 2010 (fourth). In 1995, OU was the No. 1 team headed into the Big Eight season after winning the program s second National Championship the previous year. BASEBALL ON KREF 1400 AM IN 2011 The 2011 season marks the second with KREF 1400 AM serving as the flagship station of Sooner baseball. The partnership features 54 regular season games live over the air. Additionally, 23 of the games are set to be carried on the Sooners Sports Network, enabling fans to listen to OU baseball on the radio state-wide.
