WEEKEND PREVIEW No. 10 Oklahoma (32-13, 10-9 Big 12) returns home after five road games to host Kansas (22-24, 9-12) in a three-game series. Friday s series opener in at L. Dale Mitchell Park is slated for 6:30 p.m. Saturday is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday s finale is at 1 p.m. OU is ranked No. 10 by the NCBWA, No. 13 by USA Today/Coaches, No. 14 by Baseball America and No. 15 by Collegiate Baseball. The Sooners return seven position starters from the 2010 squad that finished and advanced to the program s 10th CWS. Kansas returns 19 letterwinners from the 2010 team that finished overall and seventh in the Big 12 at The Jayhawks are hitting.261 as a team, led by junior Zac Elgie with a.275 batting average with five homers and 27 RBI. 2 Week 12 - May 5 Sooners vs. Kansas 2 HEAD COACH SUNNY GOLLOWAY Sunny Golloway has led the Sooners to five NCAA Regional finals, 220 victories and a top 25 ranking in each of his six years at the helm of the OU program. In 2010, the Sooners made the program s 10th appearance in the College World Series and first since The path started after OU hosted an NCAA Regional for the second straight year and advanced to the program s second Super Regional appearance. The series win over then-no. 1 Virginia propelled back to the final season at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. OU finished 2010 with a No. 5 national ranking and a overall record, marking the fifth season in program history with 50 or more wins. Fifteen of those wins came in Big 12 play as OU finished in second place in the standings for the second straight year. In addition, Garrett Buechele and Max White were named All-Americans. The run in 2010 was even more impressive when considering the nine Sooners lost to the MLB Draft, a Big 12 best in The nine selections tied for the third most in program history. Since 2005, 34 Sooners have been drafted under Golloway. Including eight seasons ( ) as the head coach at Oral Roberts and his record at OU s helm, Golloway is (.671). OU and KU also met in the first game of the Big 12 Championship with the Sooners recording a 3-2 win. OU has won each of the last five games in the series. Below is a closer look at the series between the Sooners and Jayhawks. - In Big 12 play, OU has won 11 of 14 series openers (lost openers and the overall series in 2003, 2008 and 2009). - KU s 2008 sweep was its first in Big 12 play vs. OU. The Sooners have swept the Jayhawks three times (1997, 2001 and 2004) since the Big 12 formed in Teams have met at least three times every year since Sooners have scored 10 or more runs versus the Jayhawks in 15 of the 42 Big 12 meetings games have been decided by three runs or less in the Big 12 era (OU leads 17-6), including nine one-run games where the Sooners are 8-1. OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION UP AFTER 45 GAMES On top of the 16-0 start, the Sooners are also posting some impressive offensive numbers, below is a look at the stats compared with the 2010 CWS team, including ERA. Friday s opener is set for 6:30 p.m. while the two will play a doubleheader Saturday (3 p.m. and 6 p.m.) and Sunday s finale is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch. LAST TIME OUT The No. 10 Sooners won a 7-3 decision at Arkansas Little Rock at Dickey-Stephens Park, home of the Arkansas Travelers (AA affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim). OU has won three straight midweek games and is 9-3 overall in those contests. MISC NOTES - Sunny Golloway recorded his 250th career win at OU on April 26 at TCU. Golloway is fourth on OU s wins list with After 45 games, OU leads the Big 12 in batting average (.323), and ranks third in earned run average (3.13) and fifth in fielding percentage (.974). - OU is one of two teams in the conference to own a team batting average over.300 (Oklahoma State hitting.302). - OU leads the Big 12 with 34 home runs, double the amount hit by Missouri (15) and Texas (10). - OU leads the conference with 332 runs, the next closest team, Texas Tech, has scored 276 runs. The Sooners lead the Big 12 in hits with 498 and Oklahoma St. is second with The Sooner offense has outscored the opposition OU has outscored opponents 52-24, 53-30, and in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings, respectively. - Garrett Buechele, the Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 21 and 28, leads the Big 12 in RBI (51, 15th in the nation) and also ranks second in hits (69, 15th in the nation) and in third in batting average (.373). He also ranks in the top 10 in the league in homers (7), total bases (98), slugging pct. (.530). - Seven freshmen have seen playing time and 10 newcomers overall have taken the field. - In 25 of the Sooners 45 starts, the hurlers have lasted at least five innings, including six complete games by Jordan John, Bobby Shore and Michael Rocha (4). OU owns six of the 21 complete games tossed in the Big 12 in Michael Rocha and the Sooner bullpen limited the Tribe to one hit on Feb. 18, 2011, the fewest allowed since OU s last no-hitter, a combined effort on March 9, 2005 vs. UAPB. - Rocha struck out 13 batters in the March 18 shutout vs. Texas A&M, the most by a Sooner since Daniel McCutchen also sat down 13 Aggies on April 7, Rocha, a two-time 2011 Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, has lasted at least seven innings in nine of his 11 starts... He ranks fourth in the Big 12 with eight wins (12th nationally) and third with a 1.51 ERA (25th nationally). SCORING FIRST OU is 22-5 when scoring first this season, including a 10-4 mark in Big 12 play. The Sooners have scored first in 13 of the last 19 contests with a 12-7 record in that span. THE BIG INNING OU has hit through the batting order 18 times in 45 games. OU had 23 such occasions in In addition, the Sooners have plated five or more runs in nine different innings, including 14 in the eighth inning on Feb. 22 vs. UAPB. The 14 runs tied an OU record for most scored in an inning with the 1998 Sooners that plated 14 in one frame against Emporia State on Feb. 17. ONE-RUN GAMES The Sooners are 3-5 this season in games decided by one run, including four of the last five defeats. OU was 14-7 in those situations in 2010 and the Sooners are (.686) under head coach Sunny Golloway. The Sooners skipper entered 2011 with the best winning percentage among Big 12 coaches over the last five years in that category.

Michael Rocha s four complete games, which leads the Big 12 Conference, is the most by a Sooner since Daniel McCutchen recorded all five of the Sooners complete games in Overall, OU had two complete games last season, three in 2009, one in 2008 (Rocha) and one in DOUBLE DIGITS The Sooners recorded 10 or more hits in 25 games this season with a 21-4 mark (42 in 2010 with a 38-4 record), including 14 out of the last 20 and are averaging 11.1 hits per game this season. OU is averaging 7.4 runs per game, featuring 14 contests scored in double digits with a 13-1 record. (23 in 2010 with 22-1 record). OVERTON AND OGLE COLLECT FIRST BIG 12 WEEKLY HONOR Dillon Overton was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on May 2 after recording a pair of wins on the road at No. 7 TCU and No. 4 Texas. Overton combined to throw 8 2/3 innings in the week with three hits allowed and one run. It was a career first honor for Overton and represents the seventh time a Sooner has been recognized by the Big 12 this season, a league best. Junior Tyler Ogle was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and NCBWA National Player of the Week on April 18 after collecting 11 hits (3 HR) and 11 RBI in four games played. In 2011, Garrett Buechele has twice been named the player of the week (Feb. 21 and 28), Michael Rocha was tabbed the pitcher of the week twice (March 7 and April 4) and Jordan John was tabbed the newcomer of the week (Feb. 28). SHUTOUTS Michael Rocha s 13 strikeouts and Ryan Duke s first save of 2011 led OU to a 1-0 shutout over then-no. 11 Texas A&M on March 18. The Sooners have two shutouts in the books, after blanking SDSU 4-0 on March 3, and posted three in OU has also limited opponents to one run in nine games. The most shutouts recorded in a single season during the Sunny Golloway era is five, posted in 2009, 2007 and TIME FOR A RALLY In the 32 victories in 2011, the Sooners have come from behind in 13 of those contests. The awward has honored college baseball s top player since Rocha joins Garrett Buechele, who was a preseason nominee, as the two Sooners looking to appear on the semifinal list of 30 players announced on May 31. The award presentation, pre will air live at 6 p.m. ET on MLB Tonight on Friday, July 15. TOUGH SCHEDULE The Sooners are 7-8 in games against Top 25 teams this year after defeating then-no. 14 Cal (W, 5-3), then-no. 11 Texas A&M (W, 1-0),No. 23 Oklahoma State (W, 8-3), No. 9/7 TCU (13-6/7-4) No. 18 Oklahoma State and No. 4 Texas. OU also dropped two games to Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Texas and two to then-no. 9 Arizona State. Other double-digit undefeated streaks to begin a season include 1984 (11-0) and 1974 (10-0). It marks the longest undefeated streak in the Big 12 era (since 1997), tied with the 2005 Texas team. The 16- game winning streak is also the best under head coach Sunny Golloway and the sixth double-digit streak in his tenure (13 in 2006, 11 in 2007, 11 in 2008, 10 in 2009 and 10 in 2010). Its also the 25th in program history and longest since 1985 (19).

OGLE ON JOHNNY BENCH WATCH LIST For the second straight season, junior catcher Tyler Ogle was named to the Johnny Bench watch list for the 2011 season. Ogle caught in 42 games last year as he hit.331 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs, while recording a.992 fielding percentage and throwing out 11 base stealers. The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List on March 10. BUECHELE ON PRESEASON LISTS Junior Garrett Buechele was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Collegiate Baseball preseason All-America teams. He also appears on the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award (nation s top player). While the preseason accolades are new for Buechele, he was tabbed a second team All-American following the Sooners 2010 season. Buechele led OU in every offensive category. The Arlington native was taken in the 18th round of the 2010 MLB Draft (Texas Rangers). DUKE ON STOPPER WATCH LIST Ryan Duke, who is on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list for the second straight year, recorded his first save of 2011 on March 18 vs. Texas A&M and moved into sole possession of first place on OU s all-time saves list. Duke finished with 12 saves in 2010, the nation s 12th best total, and ranked second in the Big 12. He led the Big 12 in saves with 16 in 2009 (ranked sixth in the nation), the second most in a single season by a Sooner (Jeff Bajenaru - 20, 2000). He is the first Sooner in OU history to have 10 or more saves in two seasons. BLAIR, BUECHELE, OGLE & ROCHA NAMED CAPTAINS Seniors Elliott Blair and Michael Rocha and juniors Garrett Buechele and Tyler Ogle were voted as the 2011 captains by their teammates back in October. Buechele is the only two-time captain (2010). SOONERS FAVORED TO WIN BIG 12 REGULAR SEASON For the first time since 1995, OU is the preseason favorite to claim the Big 12 baseball regular season championship, in a vote of the league s head coaches. In 2010, the Sooners made their 10th College World Series appearance and first trip to Omaha since It marks the first time since 1995 that OU was selected as the top pick in the conference preseason poll. The Sooners have twice been picked No. 2 in the Big 12 preseason poll (1999 and 2001) with the highest prediction under Golloway coming in 2010 (fourth). In 1995, OU was the No. 1 team headed into the Big Eight season after winning the program s second National Championship the previous year. BASEBALL ON KREF 1400 AM IN 2011 The 2011 season marks the second with KREF 1400 AM serving as the flagship station of Sooner baseball. The partnership features 54 regular season games live over the air. Additionally, 23 of the games are set to be carried on the Sooners Sports Network, enabling fans to listen to OU baseball on the radio state-wide.
