Veeger Chair of the department of Biomechanical Engineering, Faculty 3ME, Delft University of Technology Department of Human Movement Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Following up on a wealth of Japanese research, the Dutch baseball association and two universities have joined efforts to take up a more scientific line of support for Dutch baseball. Project Fastball, started in 2013 is a first step in this direction. With a first focus on pitching, we are trying to set up a system in which youth players are systematically screened to identify key factors in performance development, implement the newest insights in learning, and increase understanding of the pitching motion and injury risks associated to this. We hope to be able to share ideas and learn from the Japanese approach, ideally in a long-term collaboration. Erik van der Graaff, MSc PhD-candidate at the Department of Human Movement Sciences, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. Erik graduated in baseball mechanics and works as a full-time PhD for project FASTBALL Last year our research group visited Japan and we had the opportunity to visit Tsukuba University, meet scientists at the University of Tokyo and visit the Ajinomoto National Training Centre in Tokyo. I have seen baseball been played at the grass-root level, at the University level and visited some games in the NPB. Altogether, Japan has all the facilities, players and know-how to relate to groundbreaking research. In this meeting I hope to be able to share some of our ideas on learning strategies for pitching as well as on a feedback system for motion timing. E. J. Veeger and Dr. Ohgi. Japanese baseball is No.1 of world ranking. But Japanese baseball style is different from foreign countries. I mention the comparison of Japanese style and foreign countries about pitching movement particularly this time. We have researched a unique style in japan. I am a researcher and a coach, and want to perform the study that is useful for coaching of the baseball in the viewpoint of the coach. Professor Yuji Ohgi, Ph.D. Professor, Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University After obtaining his bachelors and masters in Health Sports Sciences at the University of Tsukuba (Japan), Yuji completed his PhD in Media and Governance at Keio University (Japan) in He was appointed Director, Sports Dynamics and Informatics Laboratory, SFC Research Institute at Keio University in 2014, following several academic posts at the university. He is also an Honorary Associate Fellow at Griffith University School of Engineering, Centre for Wireless Monitoring and Application. Yuji serves on the Steering Committee of the Japanese Society of Sciences in Swimming and Water Exercise, and Sports Engineering and Human Dynamics Division of Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineering. He has successfully filed 4 domestic (Japanese) patents and 1 US patent.
