Ronald Torreyes hit the first pitch he saw for a 1st-inning homer and Wilin Rosario tied the game with a solo blast of his own in the 5th. Kohl Stewart battled through a 34-pitch 1st frame to earn the win while Ryan Eades tossed 2.0 perfect innings in relief and Tyler Duffey tossed 2.0 scoreless to register the save. Wings hurlers combined to strike out 16 IronPigs. HOMER HAPPY: Rochester hit three home runs to produce all four runs in last night's Opening Day win. Ronald Torreyes, from the two-hole, hit the first on the first pitch he saw and sixth overall from Lehigh Valley starter Cole Irvin. The Red Wings did not hit their first homer until the 321st pitch and 73rd at-bat of 2018 when Jake Cave went deep with two outs in the 1st inning on April 11 vs. Syracuse. Rochester did not hit its third homer last season until game seven when Kennys Vargas hit a sixth-inning home run on April 16 at Charlotte. The three home runs are the most by the Red Wings on Opening Day since Rochester went deep four times in the 2009 Opener on April 9 at Syracuse. Torreyes did not homer in 71 games between New York-AL, Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, and Single-A Tampa in Before last night, his previous home run came for the Yankees on July 30, 2017 vs. Tampa Bay, spanning 109 games and 325 at-bats combined between the majors and minors. Wilin Rosario returned to affiliated ball after spending the previous three seasons playing in Japan (2018) and Korea ( ). His last home run in the United States before Thursday night came with Colorado on September 22, 2015 vs. Pittsburgh. PEN PALS: Ryan Eades and Tyler Duffey both tossed hitless relief with four strikeouts last night. Eades was perfect while needing just 18 pitches while Duffey's only blemish was a hit batter with one out in the 9th. The bullpen was a big reason the 2018 Rochester staff led the International League with a 3.39 ERA. Red Wings relievers pitched to a collective 2.70 ERA last season. Duffey's career ERA with Rochester is now 2.80 in 54 games (22 starts) while Eades has a 0.71 mark in 10 games (four starts) for the Wings. WINGS vs. LEHIGH VALLEY Current Streak...
