After going 10-3 (.769) in 13 games from 5/6 to 5/19, the G-Braves are 5-10 (.333) in their last 15 games. Gwinnett trails Durham (36-25) by a season-high 4.5 games for first place in the IL South Division. Gwinnett is second in the IL Wild Card standings, trailing Syracuse (33-26) by 2.5 games. With a win tonight, GWN would improve to 7-17 vs. Columbus all-time at Coolray Field they have never won a home series vs. the Clippers (1-3 in 09, 1-3 in 10, 0-4 in 11, 2-3 in 12, 2-2 in 13). Walden to Start Tonight: Atlanta Braves RHP Jordan Walden, on the disabled list since 5/10 with a left hamstring strain, is scheduled to throw 1.0 inning in a rehab start for Gwinnett tonight. Walden is 0-0 with a 2.92 ERA (4 ER in 12.1 IP) and one save in 14 outings with Atlanta in Is 12-11, 3.16 ERA, 36 saves over 187 MLB games with LA Angels ( ), Braves ( ). Will be followed by the regularly-scheduled starter, LHP Daniel Rodriguez (more on Page 3). G-Braves Done In by Homers in Game 2: After holding leads of 3-1 and 4-2, the G-Braves fell 9-4 to the Columbus Clippers last night at Coolray Field. Mark Hamilton (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) blasted a three-run home run off RHP Duke von Schamann to give Gwinnett a 3-1 lead in the first inning, and a balk by von Schamann scored Steve Lerud (2-for-3, R) to make it 4-2 in the second. RHP Cody Martin (L, 3-5) failed to hold the lead, allowing solo homers to Adam Abraham and Giovanny Urshela in the third inning and a go-ahead two-run homer to Carlos Moncrief in the fifth inning. LHP Ian Thomas surrendered three more runs over 2.0 IP as the Clippers built a 9-4 advantage. Von Schamann (W, 1-0) settled down after a rough start, giving up four runs over 5.0 IP. Four Columbus relievers added scoreless frames to finish the Clippers second straight victory. With the loss (4.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 HR, 2 BB, 2 SO), Martin is 0-3 with a 7.36 ERA (12 ER in 14.2 IP) over his last three starts. He began the year 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA in his first nine games. Scoring Drought: The G-Braves led the IL in team batting average (.274) and OPS (.745) and ranked third in runs scored (242) following an 8-3 win at Pawtucket on 5/27. In eight games since, the Gwinnett offense has combined to hit just.198 (51-for-258) with 13 extra-base hits and 19 runs scored (2-6 in that span, outscored 36-19). That difficult stretch has dropped the club to fifth in the IL in team batting average (.264), fifth in runs scored (261) and sixth in OPS (.719). Hot Ham: 1B Mark Hamilton is batting.353 (6-for-17) with two home runs and six RBI on a current four-game hitting streak. In addition to his three-run homer last night, he also belted a three-run shot on 6/2 at Rochester (off RHP Alex Meyer). Hamilton now leads the team with 30 RBI (T-10 th in IL). Gosselin Among Leaders: INF Phil Gosselin, 1-for-4 with a run scored last night, remains fifth in the IL in batting (.322) he is also among leaders in hits (T-2 nd, 67) and doubles (T-7 th, 14). Gosselin hit.333 in both April (26-for-78) and May (40-for-120). He posted a season-best eightgame hitting streak from 5/22 to 5/29, batting.400 (14-for-35, 2 2B, HR, 4 R, 5 RBI, SB) in that span. He homered for the first time this season on 5/29 at Pawtucket, lifting a solo shot off RHP Chris Resop in the eighth it was his first HR since 7/18/13 vs. Norfolk (solo HR off LHP Jake Pettit). Constanza, the Catalyst: OF Jose Constanza went 1-for-5 last night, giving him hits in 15 of his last 17 games. Included in that span is his seasonbest 11-game hitting streak from 5/2 to 5/29 he hit.366 (15-for-41, 2 2B, 8 R, 4 RBI, 4 SB) on the streak. His 11-game streak was the third longest posted by a G-Brave this season, trailing only OF/1B Joey Terdoslavich (14-game streak, 4/20 to 5/4) and 1B Ernesto Mejia (12-game streak, 4/12 to 4/24). By the Month: Gwinnett went (.600, 3 rd in 14-team IL) in April, snapping a string of 11 straight months without a winning record dating back to April of 2012 (17-7, 1 st in IL South). The G-Braves came close to posting consecutive winning months to open the season for the first time in club history, but fell short by going (.483) in May. The club hasn t posted backto-back winning months since June (18-11) and July (17-12) of The Snitker Era: Former Atlanta Braves third base coach Brian Snitker is the new manager of the G-Braves in After spending the last seven seasons ( ) on the Major League staff, Snitker was named the third manager in Gwinnett history on 10/14/13 he follows Dave Brundage ( ) and Randy Ready (2013) at the post. This season marks his 38 th with the Braves organization dating back to 1977, as well as his 18 th campaign as a minor league manager. The pinnacle of his career came in with Advanced-A Myrtle Beach, when he led the Pelicans to consecutive Carolina League titles and was voted CL Manager of the Year twice. Gwinnett s record qualified for fourth place in the four-team IL South Division (27.0 games behind first-place Durham) and 14 th overall among the 14 IL teams (trailed 13 th - place Toledo by 1.0 game). The G-Braves opened the season with a 4-0 record, the best start by an Atlanta Braves Triple-A affiliate since the 1978 Richmond Braves also started the season 4-0. Following that home series sweep of Charlotte, however, Gwinnett went on to win just 56 more games over their next 140 contests. The club s 60 wins were the fewest by a Braves Triple-A affiliate since 2006, when Richmond went (.399) and also finished last in the 14-team IL. It is his 26 th career game in affiliated baseball, second relief appearance. Last Outing: Rodriguez lost his last time out on 5/31 at Rochester, yielding four runs, three earned on nine hits over 5.0 IP (85 pitches, 52 strikes), walking two and striking out two. He gave up a solo home run to Pedro Florimon as part of the damage and exited with a 4-0 deficit Gwinnett went on to lose 6-1.
