1 2012 IL West Champs INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME INFORMATION Indianapolis Indians 5-3, T-1st IL West Game 1 -- LHP Kris Johnson Game 2 -- RHP Brooks Brown Radio Broadcast: WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and iheartradio Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN Saturday, April 13, :35 p.m. EDT Huntington Park Columbus, Ohio Game #9 &#10 Road Game #2 & #3 TRIBE TRENDS: Last night the Indianapolis Indians (5-3) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as the Columbus Clippers (5-3) plated seven runs in the second and held on for a 7-6 victory... The seven-run second marked the most runs scored by an Indians opponent in a single inning since opening day 2010 (April 8) when the Clippers plated eight scores in the seventh inning of a 17-4 win over the Tribe at Huntington Park... Indianapolis swiped two more bags on Friday night and have now stolen four bases over their last two games to move into second place in the International League with 10 steals on the season... The Tribe also drew seven walks in last night s defeat after drawing seven free passes in their previous contest... With their 14 total base-on-balls over the last two games, the Tribe now ranks fourth in the IL with 35 walks this season... Today s twin-bill is the first of the season for Indianapolis... The Indians played three doubleheaders in 2012, splitting all three, including one against Columbus on July 12 ROSTER MOVE: RHP Kyle McPherson was placed on the Indianapolis disabled list today, and RHP Tim Alderson was promoted from Double-A Altoona to fill his spot on the roster... Prior to his promotion, Alderson appeared in two games for Altoona, allowing just a single unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out five over 5.1 scoreless innings of relief. TONIGHT S TRIBE GAME 1 STARTER: LHP Kris Johnson is scheduled to make the start in game one of the tonight s doubleheader for the Tribe... The southpaw turned in a impressive performance in his first start of the season against tonight s opponent Columbus, when he held the Clippers scoreless over 5.0 innings while striking out to five and walking just two on his way to earning the victory on April 7 at Victory Field... Johnson faced Columbus three times in 2012, posting a 3.52 ERA (3 ER in 7.2 IP) with seven strikeouts and two walks... In his lone appearance at Huntington Park last season, Johnson surrendered three runs on three hits and a walk in just an inning of work out of the Indianapolis bullpen on July 8... The southpaw split the 2012 campaign between Triple-A Indianapolis and Double-A Altoona, combining for an 8-4 record with a 3.19 ERA (36 ER in IP) and 75 strikeouts in 35 games (13 starts)... He was most effective when starting in the rotation, recording a combined 1.56 ERA in his 13 starts (10 ER in 57.2 IP), compared to a 5.32 ERA (26 ER in 44.0 IP) through his 22 relief appearances... While splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A, Johnson tossed 22.1 consecutive scoreless innings from 8/15-30, a span that included 5.1 shutout frames for the Curve on 8/15 at Portland, a start with Indy on 8/20 at Syracuse (5.1 IP), and back-to-back starts with Altoona on 8/25 vs. Richmond (7.0 IP) and 8/30 vs. Akron (5.0 IP). TONIGHT S CLIPPERS GAME 1 STARTER: The Clippers are expected to send Cleveland Indians top prospect Trevor Bauer to the mound in what will be his first career International League start... Bauer was acquired by Cleveland in the offseason in a three-way trade that sent OF Shin-Soo Choo and INF Jason Donald to the Cincinnati Reds, SS Didi Gregorius, INF Lars Anderson and RP Tony Sipp to the Arizona Diamondbacks and OF Drew Stubbs, RP Matt Albers, RP Bryan Shaw and Bauer to the Indians... Rated by Baseball America as the Cleveland Indians No. 1 prospect prior to the season, the right-hander made his 2013 debut on the mound for Cleveland on April 6 in Tampa Bay... Bauer struggled with his control in that outing, ultimately suffering the loss after surrendering three runs on two hits and seven walks over just 5.0 innings of work... A college teammate of Indianapolis starter and Pittsburgh top prospect Gerrit Cole, Bauer was drafted by Arizona third overall in the 2011 MLB draft... In 2012, the right hander posted impressive numbers in the minors, going 7-1 with a 1.68 ERA and 60 strikeouts over 48.1 IP for Double-A Mobile, and 5-1 with a 2.85 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 82.0 IP to help lead Reno to the Triple-A championship game against Pawtucket... Bauer did, however, struggle in his short stint in the big leagues, posting a 1-2 record with a 6.06 ERA, just 17 strikeouts and 13 walks in 16.1 innings. TONIGHT S TRIBE GAME 2 STARTER: RHP Brooks Brown is scheduled to make the spot start for Indianapolis in game two of tonight s doubleheader... The right hander has made two long relief appearances for the Tribe this season, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks to Columbus on April 5, before surrendering just a singled earned run on four hits and no walks while striking out three over 3.0 innings of work on April 9 against Toledo... Last season, while a member of the Toledo Mud Hens, Brown made three appearances at Huntington Park, posting a 3-0 record despite a 6.88 ERA (13 ER in 17.0 IP)... In those three outings, all starts, Brown gave up five longballs to Clippers batters, including at least one home run in each of his three starts. TONIGHT S CLIPPERS GAME 2 STARTER: LHP David Huff is scheduled to take the mound for the Clippers in game two of tonight s doubleheader... The southpaw did not figure in the decision of his first start of the season with Columbus on April 8 in Louisville, after he gave up two unearned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings of work... Last season, Huff struggled against the Indians in his three starts, posting a 7.50 ERA (15 ER in 18.0 IP) while allowing 26 hits, including six home runs, walking six and striking out just nine. RIDICULOUS RELIEF: The Indianapolis bullpen continued its unbelievable start to the 2013 season on Friday night... Despite allowing three inherited runners to score, three Tribe relievers combined for 6.1 innings of scoreless relief... Overall this season, the Indians bullpen has posted a stellar 1.83 ERA (8 ER in 39.1 IP) with 39 strikeouts and just 11 walks over 39.1 innings. IN- VIN -CIBLE: RHP Vin Mazzaro continued his dominating start to the season last night as the Tribe reliever surrendered just a singe hit and struck out one over 2.0 scoreless frames of relief... This season Mazzaro has now allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out nine over seven scoreless innings out of the Indians bullpen. RELIEF ROYALTY: RHP Duke Welker also continued his stellar start to the 2013 season as the Tribe reliever struck out one in a perfect frame of work last night... The Indians reliever has now struck out seven and surrendered just one hit and no walks over 5.1 scoreless innings out of the Tribe bullpen this season.
