1 Communications Department Victory Field 501 W. Maryland Street Indianapolis, IN , 1st IL West RHP Jay Jackson (2-1, 5.26 ERA) HISTORY IN THE MAKING Indy is pursuing the first three-peat IL West titles in franchise history and only the second stretch of three straight division titles in any league; (A.A), 1963 (IL South). LAST TIME OUT Jake Brigham s (3er/6.0ip) quality effort was again outmatched by his counterpart, as SYR righty Taylor Hill spun 6.0 frames of one-run ball to pilot the Chiefs past the Tribe 5-1 at NBT Bank Stadium... Brigham also blooped a single for his first professional hit in 181 games (131 starts, 4 ABs)... Wirfin Obispo (1.0ip/1r/2so) made his Indy debut, whiffing Zack Walters for his first Tribe strikeout before yielding a homer to the IL s leading hitter Steven Souza... Josh Wall s (1.0ip/1r) unearned score marks the third of his four total outings in which he has been charged with a run. CLIMBING THE RANKS Manager Dean Treanor remains one win shy of surpassing Hall-of-Famer Al Lopez for the eighth-most wins in team history. CURIOUS CAUSE OF INDIANS BRIGHAM Brigham s outing gives the righty a team-high eight quality appearances in his 10 total starts... Although he has worked at least 6.0 IP in eight starts and allowed more than three earned runs just once in his 12 total games, he has factored into only six decisions with just two wins... Tuesday also marked his fourth start in which he has received a lone tally of run support, and he is averaging just 2.3 runs behind his efforts over 10 starts. (out)hit ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT With Indy s nine hits to the Chiefs seven total knocks, yesterday s defeat was just the sixth loss of the season when Indianapolis has outhit the opposition... The Tribe boasts a 22-6 record on the year in such games. PITCHERS ARE PEOPLE TOO Channeling Rich Eisen s punters are people too, with Brigham s knock last night, Indy s pitchers have totaled four base hits, three runs, three walks (12 SO) and an RBI in 15 games without a DH. SERIES SHOWDOWN The Indians and Chiefs meet today for the sixth game of eight total tilts between the clubs this season... The two teams each lead their respective divisions and are separated by just 1.0 game in the IL s overall standings (IND-2nd, SYR-3rd)... Last night marked the first matchup decided by more than one run during this season s series, and the four-run affair is tied for the largest margin of victory from either team since Indy s 14-6 win on June 3, 2012 at SYR (stretch of 18 games). Today s Tribe Starter RHP Jay Jackson Current Streak: W1 Jackson takes the mound in place of the recently recalled Casey Sadler, and is making his 14th appearance (sixth start) of the season and second start against SYR... He enters today tied for the longest scoreless streak of any Tribe hurler this season (10.2 IP), having kept opponents off the scoreboard in four straight relief outings and one start... Jackson posted a 7.82 ERA (11er/12.2ip ) thru his first three starts but has since turned in 0.90 ERA (2GS) with one ER/10.0 IP. Wednesday, June 4, :00 p.m. EDT NBT Bank Stadium Syracuse, NY Game #59 Road Game #32 CHIEF CONCERN 2010 Syracuse Chiefs utility man Michael Martinez (1-4) singled last night to give the infielder hits in 13 of 17 career games against his former team... Martinez is batting.346 (18-for-52) in that span, including a.282 clip at Syracuse after he previously produced a.246 mark at his home stadium as a member of the Chiefs. ORG REPORT Gerrit Cole (5.2ip/1er) whiffed six en route to his sixth win as PIT downed SD Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez each lifted their 11th HR of the season in the victory. MINOR DETAILS Along with fanning a season-high eight, Chad Kuhl (6.0ip/1er/8so) also earned his third win in as many starts to pilot BRD over Clearwater He boasts a 0.98 ERA (2er/18.1ip) in those three starts... Victor Fernandez swiped three bags in DSL Pirate s 10-6 loss to the Braves. THE HIT COLLECTOR Matt Hague (1-4) singled last night and now has 25 hits, a league high-tying 20 runs scored and the IL s second-most RBI (21) in his last 23 games... He is batting.329 with two doubles, six homers and a.436 OBP over that stretch (since 5/11). BEAT THE STREAK(s) Hague also extended each of his on-base streaks, including a team-high 23 games overall (since 5/11) and IL-best awaygame streak of 19 games (since 4/8)... His 23-gamer is the second-longest active streak in the IL and is six games shy of the league s best overall mark of 2014 (Garin Cecchini)... Hague is batting.329 with a.436 OBP during his 23-gamer and.212 with a.350 OBP over his road-game streak. M-V-POLANCO Polanco (1-4, RBI) has hit safely in 41 of 57 games overall and also scored or driven in a run in 41 of 57 games as well... Indy is when Polanco contributes to at least one run in a game, but the Tribe has earned just five victories (5-11 record) when Polanco is unable to score or drive in at least one run. BLAKE THE RAKE Blake Davis (1-4, R) is 11 for his last 23 (.478) during his season-high, seven-game hitting streak... After batting just.213 in his first 21 games, Davis has since hit.424 (14-for-33) in his last 12 contests (since 5/8). LEADOFF BY EXAMPLE Including Polanco s 1-for-4 night, Indy s leadoff men (Chase d Arnaud, Jaff Decker, Chris Dickerson, Michael Martinez and Polano) have combined to hit.290 (68-for-234) with 44 runs scored... They have also coaxed 22 walks and four HBP. All-Time Manager Wins 1. JC Hendricks Vern Rapp Wade Killefer C.C. Carr Owen Bush Dave Miley Trent Jewett 292 T8. Al Lopez 278 T8.
