Ozzie On Track: After batting.091 (1-for-11) over his first two games of the season, 20-year-old Ozzie Albies is batting.385 (5-for-13, 2B, 3B, 2 R, RBI, 3 SB) over his past three games. He has tallied a stolen base in three straight games (3-for-3) and now leads the IL in steals (3). Albies is rated the Atlanta Braves No. 1 prospect and the No. 9 prospect in baseball by MLB.com. Speed Leaders: Gwinnett s six stolen bases (6-for-6, 100%) are tied with Toledo (6-for-10, 60%) for the International League lead. In addition to Albies IL-leading three steals, Xavier Avery (2-for-2) and Sean Kazmar Jr. (1-for-1) have also successfully swiped bases over the first five games. His Name is Rio: Rio Ruiz extended his hitting streak to five games with a fourth-inning single last night (1-for-3) he is one of six players in the IL to record at least one hit in all five games of 2017 Ruiz is batting.286 (6-for-21, 2B, R, 2 RBI) thus far in his second season with Gwinnett. Sims Sharp in Debut: Lawrenceville, GA s own Lucas Sims earned the first win by a Gwinnett starting pitcher in 2017 on 4/9 vs. Durham (5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO, 85 pitches/54 strikes). It was his third career win as a G-Brave (3-6, 7.04 ERA in 12 games, 11 starts since 2016). Gwinnett s other four starters are a combined 0-3 with a 9.18 ERA (17 ER in 16.2 IP) in four outings. Rare Feat for Adams: Lane Adams recorded his first hit as a G-Brave in historic fashion on 4/9 vs. Durham, lining an inside-the-park two-run home run to right field off LHP Ryan Yarbrough in the fourth inning. It was Gwinnett s first inside-the-park homer since Sean Kazmar Jr. hit one on 7/26/16 vs. Indianapolis at Coolray Field (3-run, off RHP Trey Haley). Adams is the third player to homer for his first career hit as a G-Brave this season, joining Johan Camargo (3-run HR off Durham RHP Jacob Faria on 4/6) and Adam Brett Walker (solo HR off Faria on 4/6). Power Up: After ranking 13 th in the 14-team International League in total home runs last season (79 in 143 games), the G-Braves have combined to hit six homers in their first five games of 2017 that total ranks fifth in the circuit.
