5 HUSKERS OPEN MARCH AT WICHITA STATE After eight games in Arizona, the Nebraska baseball team travels to Wichita State for a three-game series against the Shockers from Friday to Sunday at Eck Stadium. The series opener is set for Friday at 3 p.m. (CT), while both Saturday and Sunday s games will start at 2 p.m. It is the first three of 20 scheduled games in the month of March for the Huskers. HOW TO LISTEN/WATCH THE HUSKERS Fans can listen to Nick Handley and Ben McLaughlin call the weekend action on the Husker Sports Network. Every game this season can be heard on Huskers.com and the Official Nebraska Huskers App for both ios and android devices. Shocker HD will provide a video stream for all three games this weekend. 6 MILESTONES TO WATCH 4 Jake Hohensee (96) is four strikeouts away from his 100th career strikeout. 7 Scott Schreiber (27) is seven home runs away from joining Nebraska s top-10 career home runs list. HALLMARK LEADS NEWCOMERS STEPPING IN Several true freshman made appearances during the first two weekends of the season, but none more than Jaxon Hallmark. After not playing in the season opener, Hallmark has started the last seven games with five starts at third base and two starts in the outfield. Hallmark ranks third on the team in batting average (.320) through two weekends, third in hits (8), second in RBIs (5) and second in doubles (2). Hallmark led the Husker offense at the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge last weekend, going 6-for-15 (.400) with a team-best five RBIs. WILKENING, SCHREIBER SETTING THE TONE ON OFFENSE Jesse Wilkening and Scott Schreiber led Nebraska s offense during the month of February and one of them ranks first in most offensive statistical categories for the Huskers. Schreiber is batting.333 and leads the team in hits (10), doubles (3), runs (8) and is tied for first in home runs (1). Wilkening leads the team in batting average (.346) and RBIs (9) and is tied for first in home runs (1). He ranks second on the team with nine hits. Schreiber and Wilkening are the only two Huskers to reach base in all eight games this season. ON THE ROAD AGAIN TO START THE SEASON Nebraska is scheduled to play 11 consecutive games away from Lincoln to start the year. After eight games in Arizona, the Huskers head to their first road series of the year at Wichita State this weekend. Nebraska opens its home slate on Thursday, March 8 against Cal Poly. The last time the Huskers opened the season at home was 1990, when Nebraska hosted Kearney on Feb. 11 at Buck Beltzer Stadium. HOHENSEE TAKES ON CLOSER ROLE Senior right-hander Jake Hohensee spent the 2017 season as Nebraska s Friday night starter, but has taken on a new role for the Huskers during his senior campaign. Hohensee has made four appearances out of the bullpen this season and earned three saves. Hohensee made a pair of 1.0-inning outings at the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge last weekend and went 2-for-2 in save opportunities. He earned two strikeouts and didn t give up a run. Hohensee made two relief appearances during the opening weekend of the season and earned his first career save on Feb. 18 against Washington State. He struck out one Cougar in 1.0 inning. Hohensee earned third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2017 after going 7-3 with a 4.39 ERA in 14 starts, and tied for the most strikeouts on the team (57). He threw 80.0 innings in 2017 after missing the 2016 campaign due to injury. In 2015, Hohensee made 12 appearances out of the bullpen for 17.1 innings, earning a 1-0 record with a 2.08 ERA.
