Tim Healey and Bob Eger will call all the action of the weekend. AZ-TV will televise Friday and Saturday s games. George Allen and Doug Gerlach will do the game Friday, with Ken Phelps teaming with Doug Gerlach for Saturday s game. There will be no Monday with Murphy this weekend. Leading Off: Arizona State returns home for a three-game set with the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sun Devils returned from the Lone Star State with a 17-6 record, after going 3-0 in the Whataburger College Classic and falling 11-6 in Austin against the Texas Longhorns. The Sun Devils vs. The Sooners: Arizona State holds a edge over the Sooners. ASU swept the three-game series the two teams played last season in Tempe. Oklahoma comes into this weekend with a 17-4 record, and ranked in the Top 25 in all four polls. Whatburger College Classic Recap: The Sun Devils took home the title at the inaugural Whataburger College Classic, emerging from the weekend with three wins. ASU knocked off host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 10-2 on the first day, came from behind to beat Rice 6-5 in ten innings on Saturday, then closed out the weekend with a 3-1 victory over the TCU Horned Frogs. The Sun Devils placed six players on the All-Tournament Team, led by WCC MVP Willy Fox. Fox had the game winning hit against Rice on Saturday and played solid defense at both third and first throughout the weekend. Fox was joined on the team by Austin Stockfisch, Ike Davis, Eric Sogard, Ryan Sontag and Zechry Zinicola. Rankings: ASU is ranked #11 in the Collegiate Baseball poll this week, up two spots from a week ago. They are #13 in the NCBWA poll. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Devils are at #13. ASU rose one spot to #16 in Baseball America. Brock Ballpark: On January 20th, Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark was dedicated to the late Dr. Jim Brock, who won fi ve Pac-10 Coach of the Year awards during his tenure. The legendary ASU coach, who passed away in 1994, won two national championships during his 23 years at Arizona State University. NCBWA #13 USA Today #13

2 Head Coach Pat Murphy Since inheriting the Sun Devil program in August of 1994, Pat Murphy has carefully nurtured the tradition of excellence in Tempe, while at the same time establishing himself as one of the top collegiate head coaches in the nation. He has guided Arizona State University to Top 12 rankings in five of the past nine seasons, including last season s third place fi nish at the 2005 College World Series. Brett Bruneel got his first start as a Sun Devil, lasting 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and four runs to take the loss. Only one of his runs was earned. ASU allowed Texas to score ten two-out runs, and walked six batters to help the Longhorns to victory. Arizona State scored five runs in the ninth, but the comeback attempt fell short. Streaker: With his two hits against UT, Colin Curtis has now hit safely in 20 straight games. Entering the season, his previous career high was 13 straight games. It is the longest streak for a Sun Devil since Andre Ethier hit in 23 consecutive games in The school record is 45 games, done by Roger Schmuck in Taking Out #1: ASU beat Rice 6-5 in ten innings at the Whataburger College Classic on Saturday. At the time, the Owls were the top-ranked team in the NCBWA poll. The last time ASU defeated a #1 team was back in 2004, when the knocked off the same Rice Owls. The Devils topped Rice 3-1 in Houston at the Coca-Cola Baseball Classic. Outstanding Urlaub: Freshman lefty Jeff Urlaub certainly hasn t pitched like a freshman this season. He has made eight appearances, including four starts, and has a 5-0 record with a 1.91 ERA. In his 33 innings pitched, he s allowed 26 hits, struck out 27 batters and allowed only seven earned runs. Walk This Way: Sun Devil hitters have displayed a keen eye so far in As a team, they have drawn 107 walks, best in the Pac-10. Willy Fox leads the conference with 16 free passes, but Colin Curtis is right on his tail with 15 bases on balls. Fox has also been beaned seven times, tying him with Joe Persichina for the team lead. Gene Autry Winner: On March 20th, Colin Curtis will be honored as a recipient of the Gene Autry Courage Award at a banquet in Tempe. For 13 years the awards have been presented to athletes who have overcome obstacles. Curtis was diagnosed with testicular cancer as a freshman at Issaquah High School, but has now been cancer-free for more than five years. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia will present Colin with the award, which is named for the legendary actor and cowboy who once owned the Angels franchise. Start Me Up: Arizona State is 9-1 when scoring in the first inning, with their only loss coming in the season opener to Cal State Northridge. They are 13-1 when scoring the first run of the ballgame. They scored in the first inning against TAMUCC and TCU this past weekend. Just Keep On Using Me...: Righty Brady Martinez leads the Pac-10 this season with 15 appearances. The school record for appearances in a season is 39, set by Noah Peery in Brett Bordes had 38 appearances a year ago. Coincidentally, Bordes is tied for second in the Pac- 10 with 13 appearances.

He has hit leadoff, second and third so far in Curtis stole 17 bases a season ago, and he is well on his way to eclipsing that mark. The ASU record for stolen bases in a season? 59 by Kevin Romine in Honor Roll: Freshman lefty Jeff Urlaub was named to the College Baseball Foundation s Honor Roll for the week of February 21st...Ike Davis earned a spot on the Honor Roll for the week of March 7th. Joe-Pa Published: Junior infielder Joe Persichina will write a weekly column for CollegeBaseballInsider.com. Every week, Persichina will give readers a review of the week that was and the week that will be. Joe is one of four athletes and two coaches who have agreed to write a weekly column for the website. Challenge at Chase: On April 2nd, Arizona State and Arizona will face off in the first Challenge at Chase, to be played at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Challenge at Chase will mark the third time the facility has hosted an event featuring an ASU team. Football played in the 2005 Insight Bowl, beating Rutgers The women s hoops team played in the Hoops for The Cure game in 2000, facing the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. The Sun Devils will also host the Wildcats on May 2nd at Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark before heading to Tucson for a three-game Pac-10 series beginning May 19th. Colin Curtis, All-American: Junior OF Colin Curtis was named a First Team Preseason All-American by Baseball America, as well as a Preseason All-Pac-10 selection. Curtis hit.342 last season, knocking in 45 runs and stealing 17 bases. He was named to the All-College World Series Team and the All-Tempe Regional Team. Fab Four Frosh: The Sun Devils had four freshmen on Baseball America s Fab 50 Freshmen list, led by Ike Davis. The LHP/1B was the third rated freshmen in the NCAA this year, and highest rated pitcher. Davis is joined on the list by C Preston Paramore (#9), 1B Brett Wallace (#23) and SS Matt Hall (#30). Devils Tabbed For Third By Coaches: Arizona State has been picked to finish in a tie with Stanford for third in the Pac-10 according to the Annual Pac-10 Preseason Coaches Poll. Oregon State, who won the Pac-10 last season, has been picked to win it again this season. More Preseason Awards: The 2006 Sun Devils earned several accolades in Baseball America s Pac-10 preview. Ike Davis was named the Preseason Freshman of the Year and was also named the conference s top newcomer. He was joined on the list by Brett Wallace and Preston Paramore. ASU is picked to finish second in the Pac-10 by Baseball America. A Little Drafty: The 2006 Sun Devils include six players who were drafted in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft. Senior LHP Brett Bordes was selected by Detroit in the 24th round, but opted to return to school. Five Sun Devil freshmen were also taken. LHP/1B Ike Davis was a 19th round pick of Tampa Bay, SS Matt Hall was taken in the 8th round by the Angels, C Preston Paramore was a 22nd round pick of the Mets, LHP Jeff Urlaub was taken by the Devil Rays in the 26th

Pac-10 Ranks: The Sun Devils lead the Pac-10 in runs batted in, walks drawn, batters struck out and double plays turned. Ike Davis leads the conference in RBI, Willy Fox leads in walks and Colin Curtis leads in stolen bases. Brady Martinez leads the league in appearances, with Brett Bordes third. Johnny Bench Award Watch: Freshman catcher Preston Paramore has been named to the 2006 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award Watch List, the award given to the best collegiate catcher. The list features 26 catchers from 15 conferences, with Paramore one of only two backstops from the Pac-10 on the list. Paramore is also the only freshman on the list. This is the third straight season in which ASU has had a catcher on the Watch List, as Tuffy Gosewisch was a semi-finalist for the award in each of the last two seasons. Touch of Irish: Arizona State will wear green caps on Friday night to celebrate St. Patrick s Day. This is believed to be the first time in school history that the baseball team will wear a color other than maroon, gold, white or black Mr. All-Around: CJ Retherford has shown his versatility this season, having played five different positions already. Retherford has played third, short, second, caught and pitched. He joins a handful of Sun Devils to play both pitcher and catcher in the same season, and the first since Richy Leon. Chasing Kendall: With his 13 appearances this season, senior LHP Brett Bordes now has 91 career appearances. The school record is 102, held by Kendall Carter, who wore the maroon and gold from 1981 to Bordes saw action in 38 games last season, working mostly out of the bullpen. Major League Influence: The 2006 Sun Devils have had numerous guest speakers already this young season. Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Craig Counsell, who played under Pat Murphy at Notre Dame, has been a regular attendee of practice, tutoring the young Sun Devil infielders. Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley and 1990 Cy Young Award winner Bob Welch have also been out to talk to the team. Welch was the pitching coach for the Diamondbacks when they won the World Series in 2001, and served as the Dutch team s pitching coach during the World Baseball Classic. Stocky To The Rescue: Preston Paramore was unable to play due to injury during the road trip to Texas, so Austin Stockfisch stepped in and played well. Stockfisch hit.385 in the WCC, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. He also knocked in three runs and hit to doubles. Up Next: ASU will remain in Tempe to host the Penn State Nittany Lions in a three-game series. Pepper Games: ASU will play 27 games this season against teams that advanced to the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The Sun Devils will face a 2005 CWS participant eight times this year (Oregon State, Baylor, Texas). The 2006 schedule features 13 meetings with teams ranked in the Baseball America preseason Top 25. ASU will play 39 games in Arizona, 8 in Texas, six in California and three in Washington. The Sun Devils have hit over.300 in 18 straight years, and 34 of 47 varsity seasons. The 2006 roster features five seniors, 10 juniors, 11 sophomores and nine freshmen. The 2006 Sun Devils have 18 players from Arizona, eight from California, two from Washington, two from Texas and one each from Michigan, Colorado, Utah, Ohio and Massachusetts.
