3 SCWSSC Coming Ev_nts Bob Peck, President The winter session is well underway and so are the activities and events organized by our club members. In February, the Bill Bromley Memorial Cardiac Kids Tournament was a huge success. The event raised over $2,000, which was donated to the American Heart Association. Also in February, the Bosom Buddies event raised money to fight breast cancer. We should all be proud of the efforts of our club members who organize and participate and contribute to this worth while cause. In early March, we have the Spring Fling, which is scheduled to begin on March 4 th. This is a fun day for American League and National League players to compete and promote social interaction within our club. Then in late March there are two events that all members should support. First, on Saturday, March 20 th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM the club provides a Day in the Park. This is an event when we invite our team sponsors and billboard advertisers to Liberty Field. This provides them access to our club membership and the community at large to help promote their businesses. Our members are encouraged to attend the event, interact with our sponsors and thank them for their support. It would be appropriate for club members to wear their uniform shirts to this event to demonstrate the advertisement that sponsoring a team provides. A free lunch will be provided to all who attend Second, is the Annual Sun Cities Senior Softball League Banquet. It is scheduled for Wednesday, March 24th, from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM at Palm Ridge Summit Hall (A&B) in Sun City West. This is an opportunity to socialize with friends and recognize club members who have given much of their time and talent to promote club activities. New candidates will be inducted into the Sun Cities Senior Softball League Hall of Fame. Our own club member, Joe Gallo, will provide live music and entertainment. The club also invites our team sponsors and billboard advertisers to the banquet where they are recognized and acknowledged for their support of our activities. All team managers are selling tickets for this event until March 10th. Tickets are $10 per person. All members are encouraged to attend. LIBERTY FIELD HOSTS ANOTHER VINTAGE BASEBALL ALL STAR MATCH Herb Clark, Commissioner Please mark your calendar to join us for the 2010 Vintage Base Ball All Star Match to be played at Liberty Field in SCW on March 21st. In addition to the three matches we will have fun and games for all who attend. We are planning to have hamburgers, hot dots and etc. We invite you to dress up in your oldest garb, bring your cameras and be a part of this great afternoon of fun! Players who want to play in the third match are asked to please respond to this and let us know your intent, so we can put you on a team. SPACE IS LIMITED. We truly encourage you to sign up and play. Former players should wear their old uniform. New players we request you get into the spirit by wearing a long sleeve shirt and long pants. If you want to roll up your pants, that's OK! 4 WEST SIDE FOOD BANK IS FRUIT & VEGGIE MONTH Carol Bowden I usually make my food bank deliveries on Friday mornings. It is amazing to see the somewhat constant streams of people moving in and out of the office with either requests or boxes of food. The people are not faceless; it's young families, a grandfather trying to make sure his grandchildren get enough to eat or a more middle aged couple trying not to despair. Over the last 4 months, Sun Cities Senior Softball has donated over 880 lbs. of food! But, we are not done yet! With March being our last collection month, Julie and I are hoping we can push the total to over 1000 lbs. We will be collecting cans of fruits and vegetables. As always, your generosity is appreciated and noted. The thank you's I receive are shared with all of you. Those of you who may be leaving for the summer may want to consider taking what is left in your pantry to the food bank OR give me a call and I will help you get it there. We are an amazing organization! THANK YOU ALL! ANNUAL SOFTBALL LEAGUE BANQUET Bob Williams All members of the Sun Cities Softball Clubs are encouraged to attend our Annual Banquet on March 24 at Palm Ridge Recreation Center in Sun City West. Dennis Farrar As I write another As I See It editorial, please keep in mind it s how I See It, and it may not reflect the views of all. This being said, I would like to thank many of you who took the time to comment on last month s editorial. I found out that a lot of you share the same concerns of the direction we re going just as I do. Please keep in mind that this is As I See It, and, I know that there are some that may not agree. No newspaper or other newsletter, or magazines can please every reader. Whether you agree or not I encourage each of you to get involved and let your wishes known at the meetings. As players it is our duty to steer our officials in the direction we want them to go. So step up to the plate and let your voice be heard. Attend as many meetings as you can. They are open to all paid up members. I have my own convictions and many of you know them already. I have always been available to help wherever needed as long as I believe that what I m asked to do is principle driven and not based on convenience. Methods are forever changing, but no one can dispute our principles. Let s all do our part to show more compassion towards each other and to do what is right. Show more compassion for the less skilled players and less on winning. Someday we all will be one of these players. Keep our game recreational for the good of all. Again, I welcome your comments, if you wish. Please join me and welcome the new players and remember to put your name and phone number on your gear for easy identification. Many bats and gloves look alike. Finally, being part Irish myself, I would like to wish everyone a Happy St Patrick s Day. Especially to all the O s and the Mc s in our association. Please remember, don t drink too much of the green Irish beer, and if you do; get a designated driver. That s how I see it! Have a good game and get home safe. Editor Page 5 of 9

8 Angels in the Outfield Linda Graham As in any reporting, there is encouraging as well as more difficult news. For those getting knees, shoulders, necks, etc. repaired and looking forward to returning to the field, do what is recommended and be patient just a while longer! For some it has become necessary to take an extended "time out" or to change sports entirely. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families. For specific information, check out or the bulletin board at each field. For those who wish to keep medical issues private, they still receive a card and an invitation to the Peanut Gallery. If you know of a player the Angels may have missed, please notify Kay Williams, Joyce Fano or Linda Graham. UPD@TE Chuck Wittreich Hi my name is Chuck Wittreich, and as many of you know, Jim Keinath the president had to leave early on summer vacation. He has asked me to pitch hit while he is away. With your help this rookie will be able to accomplish all our joint board s needs. One aspect we are all concerned about is safety. There are shin guards and all sorts of masks to help prevent accidents. The main concern is if you can not see the ball in the sun, move cover your head with your glove and turn around. With team work the player nearest you can shout out and help you move away from danger. Hope this little info will help all and as the umpire s say, Let s play ball.
