1 FOOTBALL David Lillemon 0-8 ACC returns eight lettermen and the Blue Devil roster is dotted with 30 names, not a lot considering 41 that initially signed up. If we stay healthy if will be a fun year said second year coach Dave Lillemon. Trailing 28-0 midway in third quarter, ACC rallied with 13 unanswered points before Brainerd sealed the victory. The win was a huge factor evident of a 70 yard punt by ACC late in the 3 rd quarter that pinned Brainerd on its own 2 yard line. They fumbled and ACC s Keith Frank pounced on it for a 2 yard TD and Austin s first score. Ham Peterson added a 3 yard plunge in the 4 th quarter for all of ACC s scoring. Inver Hills defeated Austin 21-7 as there was no scoring by either team after halftime. Quarterback Jay Schroeder found Jim Fruechte in the end zone for an 18 yard TD that put Austin a head 7-0. The Giants scored 21 points in the first half to seal the win. Anoka Ramsey scored six touchdowns on four pass plays and two runs and defeated ACC The loss drops the Blue Devils to 0-3 on the season. Normandale held Austin to 119 yards and handed them a 34-0 setback. ACC trailed 7-0 at halftime but wore down the second half. The Blue Devils turned the ball over seven times and lost to Waseca 36-6 in their conference opener. The only score for ACC was on a Cal Copranos pass to Ham Peterson for a 20 yard scoring toss. Rochester spoiled ACC s homecoming with a 14-6 win over the Blue Devils. Of all Blue Devil s scoring chances, the greatest came with one minute to play in the game. Jay Schroeder s pass attempt to Steve McCool just fell off his fingertips in the end zone that ended any hopes of an upset. Willmar upended ACC 13-0 in Austin s final home game and dropped them to 0-7 on the year. Neither team scored until the Warriors found pay dirt twice in the fourth quarter after ACC s turnovers (who had 8 for the day). Worthington upended the Blue Devils 21-0 as ACC finished the season winless at 0-8. ACC gained 171 yards to 184 for Worthington but it was three plays that determined the outcome. The Keokuk, Iowa native is optimistic about the group she takes over, including seven letter-winners. In the season opener, Austin won the ACC invite, winning three matches defeating Anoka-Ramsey 17-15, 15-7, then registering a 15-6, 11-15, 15-3 win over Worthington, and winning the third match over NIACC 16-14, Tracy Ball led them with seven kills, 25 assists and one block. ACC split a division pair, losing to Rochester 15-3, and defeating Normandale 15-11, 12-15, Brenda Homeier had four kills and three blocks in the win over the Lions. ACC posted three victories to up their record to 7-1. The Blue Devils defeated WWTI 15-12, 15-3, topped North Central Bible College , and rounded off the triangular with a 15-1, 15-0 setback to Inver Hills. After winning three of their next five matches to go to 10-3, ACC won a pair at Worthington defeating Waseca 15-1, and handing Worthington a 15-11, 15-8 setback. Danna Lastine had five ace serves in the victories. The win improves ACC s record to At the Inver Hills Invite, ACC won two, lost one and tied won as Deb Coughlin and Tracy Ball powered the ACC s service game while Kris Gullord and Brenda Homeier played strong at the net. ACC opened the tournament with a 15-13, 15-7 win over Worthington before being knocked into the loser s bracket by Rochester 15-11, In the final two games, ACC defeated Waseca 15-6, before being eliminated by Willmar in three, 10-15, 15-11, ACC was led by Kris Gullord with 27 kills. Waldorf handed ACC a setback in the opener. Eric Sheehan led the Blue Devils with 19 points while Bruce Mair chipped in with 11 points. Brainerd crushed Austin Late in the second half the score was tied Sheehan had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils. Austin dropped to 0-4 with losses against Waukesha Tech (74-41) and U of W Waukesha (99-71) at the Pewaukee tournament. Eric Sheehan led both games with 12 and 29 respectively. ACC shot 29 of 30 free throws in the second contest. Rod Goette chipped in with 16 points and 8 rebounds. The Blue Devils recorded their first win by defeating WWTI Trailing 46-41, Austin rallied behind Bruce Mair and Eric Sheehan. Mair ended by with 20, Sheehan 18 and Norm Haddler had 14 tallies. Austin suffered two injuries to both starting center (Sheehan) and backup center (Dean Chaffee) in the first game of the ACC invitational. We lost our big kids and that rally hampered our inside game said Coach Lillemon. ACC fell to Lake Region of North Dakota in the first round and to WWTI in the third place game. Sheehan had 22 in game one and Mair also had 22 points in game two. Austin dropped to 1-6. Iowa Lakes routed ACC in non-conference action. ACC was outscored in the second half so that was positive for the Blue Devils according to Lillemon. Bruce Mair paced Austin with 16 while Ham Peterson chipped in with 13 points. Anoka-Ramsey handed ACC a setback in the conference opener. Austin was led by Rod Goette with 19 points. Mair chipped in with 14 points. Worthington defeated the Blue Devils to drop ACC to 1-9. Eric Sheehan (20), Bruce Mair (19) and Goette (12) all were in double figures.

4 Ham Peterson came off the bench to score 16 points and led ACC to their first home win with a victory over Waseca in conference action. Besides Peterson, Sheehan contributed 14 while Norm Haddler added a dozen. ACC fell to Bethany as free throws played a big part in the loss. While the Vikings were from the foul line, ACC did not even get there until late in the game. Eric Sheehan (15) and Peterson (14) were the only two in double figures. Bruce Mair had a season high 25 tallies but it wasn t enough as Rochester defeated ACC Willmar handed ACC a conference setback defeating ACC Dean Chaffee came off the bench to score 17 points. Austin lost to Inver Hills in a very physical game. Sheehan led his team with 15 points. Normandale handed Austin a loss to drop them to 3-14 and 2-7 in league play. ACC had five players in double figures; Sheehan (15), Goette (14), Jay Schroeder (14), Haddler (13), and Bruce Mair with 11 points. Worthington remained unbeaten as they defeated the Blue Devils Mair was tops with 15, followed by Ham Peterson who had 13 tallies. ACC recorded its fourth win as they edged Waseca Rod Goette had a season high 27 points in the victory. A lane violation nullified the game tying free throw with :01 remaining as Waseca went down in defeat. Bethany defeated ACC in conference action. Austin had good balance with Sheehan (16), Goette (14), Haddler (12) and Mair (12) all in double figures. Rochester cruised by ACC in conference action, dropping Austin to 3-10 in league play and 4-17 overall. Bruce Mair had 19 points in the loss. ACC ended its season with a setback to Willmar. Waldorf handed ACC a loss in the opener. Tracy Ball led the Blue Devils with 15 points while Becky Moritz added a dozen points and 10 rebounds. The Blue Devils finished third in the Inver Hills invite defeating Concordia JV after losing to Madison Area Technical College. Dana Lastine led a late comeback with 19 points while Tracy Ball chipped in with 13 points in the win over Concordia. WWTI intercepted a pass under ACC s basket and scored a lay up with four seconds remaining and defeated the Blue Devils Lastine poured in 24 points in the loss. Lake Region crushed ACC in the opening round of the ACC invite.

5 Austin rebounded with a win over Iowa Lakes for third place. Deb Coughlin hit two free throws with six seconds to preserve the win. Dana Lastine finished with 21 points to lead all scorers. ACC improved to 3-4 with a win over Iowa Lakes behind freshman Dana Lastine s 24 points. Becky Moritz tallied 20 points and recorded 15 rebounds in the victory. After losing to Minneapolis, Anoka-Ramsey handed ACC an loss to drop them to 4-5. Moritz led the Blue Devils with 20 tallies. Worthington rallied and defeated ACC Becky Moritz was the only player in double figures with 18. Lastine did not make the trip as she was stranded in Lyle due to poor road conditions. ACC defeated Waseca for its first conference win. Dana Lastine had 19 in the win, upping the Blue Devils overall record to 5-6. Bethany blitzed ACC in league play. Three players scored in double figures, led by Lastine and Moritz with a dozen apiece. Rochester dropped Austin to 1-3 and 5-8 overall with a setback to the Blue Devils. Becky Moritz paced ACC with 15 followed by Kari Dierks with 11. Willmar defeated Austin after leading by five at halftime. Ann Jette had a season high 14 to lead the Blue Devils in scoring. ACC held on to a win over Inver Hills. It was pretty close the entire game as we basically traded baskets up until the end of the game said Coach Martin. The win improved ACC to 6-9 overall. Austin had 30 turnovers and lost to Normandale Austin is 1-4 in league play. Dana Lastine poured in a career high 39 points. Austin dropped to 6-11 as Worthington defeated ACC Lastine had 13 to lead Austin scorers. Bethany handed ACC an setback in league play and dropped them to 2-6 and 7-12 overall. Dana Lastine had 20 to top all scorers. Candis Jendersee had a season high 20 points for ACC but it wasn t enough as Rochester upended ACC Austin ended its season with a win over Willmar to finish 8-13 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Dana Lastine scored 31 points to lead four players in double figures. Danna Lastine earned All-Conference and All-State (1 st team) honors. Lastine averaged 17.5 points per game and 9.2 points. I think.500 is a realistic goal. ACC split its opening doubleheader, winning 7-6 and dropping the nightcap 16-2 to Waldorf. Dan Lee drove home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth with a single. Steve Jette had a three run double for the Blue Devils in their victory. No pitcher threw more than three innings on the day. Austin dropped a conference pair to Bethany 13-3 and The first game was called after five innings due to the 10 run rule. In the nightcap, ACC trailed 10-6 into the sixth but a furious rally fizzled after scoring three runs with two outs.

6 Worthington pounded ACC 16-3 in game one, but ACC bounced back with an impressive 12-2 win to improve their record to 1-3 in league play and 2-4 overall. Dan Lee smacked 2 hits and had 3 RBI in the second contest. Mike Carlson pitched a complete 4 hit game to get the win. Bruce Mair pitched a complete game as ACC defeated Rochester 12-5 before the Yellowjackets gained a split with a 23-7 win over the Blue Devils. Neil Drews and Jamey Pratt each had two hits in the opener. ACC dropped to 3-7 as NIACC handcuffed Austin 16-4 and 3-0 in nonconference action. The Blue Devils collected only 8 hits on the day. Pitching woes continued as Austin lost to Waldorf 6-3 and Austin was held to 6 hits in the opener but collected 15 hits in game two, including three by Neil Drews, Bart Brenz, and Steve Jette. But four ACC pitchers allowed 13 hits and six walks. The two losses made it five in a row and dropped ACC to 2-4, 3-9 overall. The Blue Devils lost the opener to undefeated Willmar 10-2 but gained a split defeating the Warriors 8-3 in what Coach Lillemon termed his finest win in two years. Dan Lee pitched a five-hitter which saw Austin score 5 runs in the seventh inning, to secure the victory after being tied 3-3. Jerry Bahr, Neil Drews, and Dan Lee each had three hits in the nightcap. ACC moved to 3-5 and 4-10 overall. Austin recorded a split with NIACC, losing the opener 11-2 but bouncing back with a 12-3 victory. In the opener, Bahr and Grenz each had two hits. In the second game, Randy Merrit stroked a huge 3 run double while Lee collected 3 hits and drove in 3 RBI. The split leaves Austin 3-5 in conference and 5-11 overall. The Blue Devils lost two heartbreakers to Bethany, 2-1 and 3-1 in conference action. ACC allowed only 8 hits and five runs as Bethany improved to 8-2 in league. Bruce Mair (first game) and Dan Lee pitched outstanding games. The Blue Devils split with Worthington, losing 4-3 but winning the nightcap 6-2 as again ACC received good pitching. Tom Cullen hurled a two-hitter in game one an Toby Kokiolek (3-0) held WCC to five hits in the second game. ACC moved to 6-14 and 4-8 in the conference. Dan Lee slapped two hits in game one and Steve Jette, Scott Rohne, Bruce Mair, Jay Schroeder, and Jamey Pratt all had two hits in the nightcap. Mair suffered a fracture in his right arm in a freak collision at first base while running out a ground ball. He is lost for the season. Rochester edged Austin 6-2 and 2-1 in a conference doubleheader. We don t play to stay close said Lillemon. We re one play away, whether it s a pitch, or a hit of winning these close games. The Blue Devils dropped a contest to WWTI in a steady rain at the park. ACC banged out 13 hits but four tired ACC pitchers surrendered the same amount of hits to the opposition. Scott Rohne had a big day, collecting four hits and scoring three runs. Jay Schroeder had a two run homerun in the loss, dropping Austin to Willmar swept Austin 14-2 and 11-7 to end the season for ACC. Austin had only three hits in the opener and Tom Cullen suffered the mound loss. Jerry Bahr crushed a three run homerun in game two and Bart Grenz added three singles.

7 Austin finishes the year 4-12 in the league and 6-19 overall. Dan Lee; All-Division led ACC in hitting with a.346 (27 for 75) while Toby Koziolek was 3-0 on the mound. We have a strong infield said Coach Synogrond. Defense will have to tough in order of us to win. ACC opened the season with 10-0 and 5-4 losses to Waldorf. Austin collected only two hits in game one. In the nightcap, the Blue Devils led 4-2 after five innings but could not hang on for the victory. Inver Hill scored all three runs in the second inning and defeated ACC in the opener 3-2 despite Austin s Carey Truckenmiller pitching a two-hitter. All the runs by the Giants were unearned. In the second game, ACC committed five errors and lost 12-2 and dropped to 0-4 on the season. The Blue Devils defeated North Hennepin 8-7 and 4-2 for their first victories of the year. Aimee Granholm had the game winning single in the bottom of the seventh after Holly Tews had doubled. After winning game one 8-7, ACC recorded a 4-2 victory behind the pitching of Truckenmiller. Granholm had three hits in game one and Tricia Bednar collected a single and triple. Kirsten Finney had two hits and two RBI in the nightcap. Austin took 3 rd place in the Inver Hills invitational in the eight team field. In the opener, ACC defeated Madison Tech 1-4, as Penny Folie and Deb Coughlin each had three hits. In the semis, Inver Hills defeated Austin 4-1. Coughlin had two hits in the loss. The Blue Devils beat Anoka-Ramsey 4-2 for third place despite collecting only two hits. The victories improve Austin s record to 4-5. For the first time in five years, ACC defeated Rochester gaining a split with them, winning 9-6 before losing the nightcap 8-7. In the opener, Bednar went 3 for 4 and had 4 RBI. Her bases loaded triple in the fifth gave ACC the win. In the opener, Austin had five runners thrown out at the plate, the biggest one in the ninth inning. The Yellowjackets won the game in the tenth on a base hit with the bases loaded. Austin now has a 5-6 overall record. ACC dropped to 6-8 after placing fourth in the Normandale invite. ACC beat Anoka-Ramsey in the first game 5-0 behind the two-hitter by Carey Truckenmiller. Rochester defeated Austin 5-1 in the semifinals. In the 3rd place game, Holly Tews blasted a 3 run homerun but Normandale rallied and defeated Austin 5-4.

8 The one run loss was the fourth of the season for ACC. We ve got to learn how to win those said Synogrond. The Blue Devils lost five of their next six games, including a pair to NIACC 10-3 and ACC s Carey Truckenmiller (7-13) took the mound losses in both games. She has all of Austin s 20 decisions this year. Kirsten Finney went 3 for 4. The Blue Devils closed out the conference schedule defeating the Rams from Waseca 17-3 and 11-1 to finish third in the league with a 4-4 record. Truckenmiller pitched a four-hitter in game one and a one-hitter in the nightcap to gain both wins. Holly Trews led a 16 hit attack in game one with four hits and four RBI. Aimee Granholm had three hits in game two. Austin completed the regular season The Blue Devils won three and lost two in the state tournament and finished 5 th overall in the 12 team field. Austin started out impressive as Karey Truckenmiller fired a twohitter as ACC beat Itasca 2-0. Deb Coughlin got both RBI s for ACC. Willmar defeated Austin 12-2 in the second round as the Blue Devils collected only two hits. Austin came back and beat Normandale 14-4 in five innings to remain alive in the tournament. Tricia Bednar had four RBI and Truckenmiller limited the Lions to six hits. ACC trounced Fergus Falls 15-2 to stay in contention. Coughlin had 3 of the 11 hits collected by Austin and Truckenmiller got her third win in four games. North Hennepin eliminated ACC 5-0 as the Blue Devils bat went silent collecting only three hits. Austin finished the year overall. ACC shot a 328 in the nine team field and Stewart Brody was ACC s lowest scorer with a 76. Brody fired an 80 to lead ACC to a third place finish in the Austin Community College invite. A 77 was medalist in the six team field and Austin s 339 trailed Normandale who won the tourney with a 330. Joe Frank had an 83, Mike Ressler (86) and Aaron Hoefs (90). In the Rochester invite, Brody again shot ACC s lowest round with a 76 and led his team to a fourth place finish out of seven teams, shooting a 344. Stewart Brody fired a 78 to capture the medalist honors in the Normandale invite. ACC finished in fourth with a 350 score. In the state and Region XIII tournament, Mike Ressler shot a two day total of 159 (75-84) to lead Austin to a fifth place in the state and a sixth place finish in the region. 9 TENNIS Coach David Dickinson & Terry Dilley 0-9 Ham Peterson is the only returnee for this year s team. The Blue Devils were blanked 9-0 in their first eight matches, beginning with Rochester, Dr. Martin Luther, and Dr. Martin Luther. After losing their fourth match to Rochester again, ACC suffered their fifth consecutive loss as Itasca overwhelmed the Blue Devils 9-0. Austin again lost 9-0 this time to North Hennepin. It was Mesabi s turn as they shut out Austin 9-0 to drop ACC to 0-7 overall. Brainerd defeated Austin 6-0 in a shortened match to keep the Blue Devils winless. In the final regular season match, Rochester defeated ACC 8-1 as Tracy Brandt picked up Austin line victory and the team s first of the year. Brandt won 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. Austin finished tie for last in the state tourney as Tracy Brandt collected the only point with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win at #5 singles. He lost in the semifinals. At #1 singles, Bob Johnson lost 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2, Ham Peterson lost 6-0, 6-0. At #3, Scott Eberly was defeated 6-1, 6-0. At #4, Brain Shaughnessy lost 7-5, 6-3. TENNIS-WOMEN Coach David Dickinson & Terry Dilley 9-0 Region XIII Champions Four letter-winners return off last year s Region championship team. Our experience is pretty good with this team said Coach Dickinson. I think we will be respectable. Austin has gone 20-1 in dual matches since ACC pounded Rochester 9-0 in their opening match. Christy Arnold won easily at #1, Vicki Karge shut out her opponent at #2, Michelle Bones won 6-1, 6-0 at #3. At #4, Darica Odegaard downed her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Joy Wilson won at #5 and Kris Kinney made it a clean sweep at #6 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. In doubles, Arnold and Bonnes, Karge and Odegaard, Wilson and Kinney all won their matches. Austin defeated Bethany 8-1 to improve to 2-0 on the season. ACC won its next two contests, including a 4-2 victory over Itasca. At #1, Christy Arnold lost and at #1 doubles the team of Arnold and Bonnes lost. The Blue Devils stayed undefeated (5-0) as they shut out North Hennepin. ACC was forced in doors due to the weather and defeated Mesabi 9-0 at the YMCA in Austin. The Blue Devils improved to 7-0 despite Vicki Karge losing her first match of the season as they defeated Bethany 7-2. The only other loss was at the #6 singles, where Kris Kinney was upended 6-1, 6-2. ACC defeated Brainerd 8-1 to remain undefeated. Austin defeated Rochester to close out the season 9-0. After day one of the Region XIII championships, ACC held a 10-8 lead over Hibbing. Rain washed out part of the first day s competition but the remaining first round was played indoors at the YMCA. The Blue Devils capped off an undefeated season with the Region XIII title, finishing with 16 points compared to Willmar who finished runner-up with 13 points. The Blue Devils, in winning their fourth consecutive Region XIII title, advance to the NJCAA tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

10 Kris Kinney, playing left handed due to a separated shoulder, teamed with Joy Wilson to win a crucial head to head battle over the Willmar s duo at #3 doubles to win the the title. Kinney also won the #6 singles with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over her opponent. Wilson and Darica Odegaard also won single titles. Wilson won the #4 while Odegaard downed her opponent 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 to win the #5 singles. All six members scored at least one point. The Austin Community College women s team was swept at the NJCAA tournament in Tucson, Arizona. ACC coach Dave Dickinson said he thought his team would be competing in a non-scholarship field, but instead played in a field that included all the national teams. Only two individuals won a set.
