24 N7 Construction Works: N7 Melkbos Turn-off to Clanwilliam 198 km Dual carriageway with paved shoulders. Routine Road teams may be encountered Jerome Buys Atlantis Turn-off to Abbotsdale A speed limit of 80km/h will be maintained throughout the project with some sections limited to 60km/h due to construction work. No day & night Stop/Go closures are expected at this stage. Abbotsdale to Voortrekker Road Interchange (Malmesbury) Road construction is taking place 4km South and 5km North of Malmesbury Interchange. Traffic on the N7 Northbound and Southbound dual carriageways between the Voortrekker Road and Darling Road off-ramps is flowing in both directions since the introduction of the alternative accommodation system. A dedicated lane for heavy vehicles to stop and engage lowest gear is in operation on the Southbound carriageway between the Voortrekker Road and Darling Road off-ramps. Public are advised to be alert to possible traffic diversions onto completed sections of the newly constructed carriageway approximately 4km before Malmesbury when approaching from the Cape Town side. The speed regulation is 60km/h and winding curves have been introduced as a traffic calming mechanism. The public are therefore requested to drive slowly and be alert to the directional signage provided at the off ramps. Stop/Go control points are an exception (on the N7) and are generally operational only in the event of routine maintenance being carried out on the existing road surface. The traffic bound for Malmesbury or Darling from Cape Town are diverted onto the newly constructed off-ramp South of the Darling Road interchange. An alternative accommodation of traffic strategy was introduced in the Malmesbury Interchange. This strategy entails closing the N7 Northbound and Southbound carriageways and utilising the newly constructed on and off-ramps to create a large traffic circle. The main flow of N7 traffic (in both directions) will make use of the on and off-ramps to move through the interchange and will have the right of way. Traffic from Darling and Malmesbury CBD on MR 224 will merge with the N7 main flow traffic onto the respective North and South on-ramps, follow the circular route around the interchange and exit along the corresponding off-ramps. Due to the urban environment many pedestrians can be expected to be crossing the road (N7 and Darling Road in Malmesbury) for which extra caution is necessary. Voortrekker Road Interchange (Malmesbury) to Hopefield Intersection Road construction is taking place north of Malmesbury s Voortrekker Road Interchange starting approximately at the Voortrekker Road Onramp (Northbound) past the Hopefield/Vredendal intersection and ending some 800 meters north of the existing commercial quarry. Work is currently proceeding on the new northbound carriageway of the N7 and on the re-aligned section of the R45, as well as certain of the new local access roads. The temporary bypass on the northern end of the project is also under construction. The concrete work on the western half of the new agricultural underpass towards the southern limits of the contract is completed and work is proceeding on the 3 bridges forming part of the new Hopefield Interchange. Traffic is accommodated along the original N7 alignment with the exception of the section located at the R45 intersection where a temporary surfaced bypass is in operation allowing the construction of the 3 new bridges. A bypass is also in operation on the R45, some 1 km from the N7 intersection, to allow tying in of the new R45 roadworks which are now well advanced. These temporary bypasses will operate until the end of the third quarter of Please note that the information contained herein could be subject to change. 25 Stop/Go or road closure operations are presently in place, but numerous truck crossings are in place where material is hauled along the length of the project and to other construction sites along the N7 from commercial quarries located within the limits of this contract. Northbound traffic on the N7-2 from Malmesbury is now routed via a median cross-over situated just north of the Voortrekker Road Interchange on-ramp towards Moorreesburg. This on-ramp towards Moorreesburg is now also operating with a Stop control onto the N7, and two lane-two way traffic operates northwards of this point. Motorists are warned to observe the signage, heed the warnings of flag-persons and obey the posted speed restrictions along the route, for both their own safety and that of the workforce. Please proceed with extreme caution, especially during periods of wet weather when tracked mud can make the road slippery. : until July 2019 Please note that the information contained herein could be subject to change.
