Hello everyone. I hope everyone had a safe and joyous Christmas and New Year celebration. We had family members and friends in town to help us celebrate. I would like to thank our 2010 EVHHOG officers for all of their hard work. It takes a considerable amount of personal time to fulfill these positions. It starts when the individual decides to accept the nomination for the officer s position. Then once they are elected the duties of each position starts becoming clear as to what exactly they volunteered to do for all of us. It is not always easy to find time to ride but as an officer they have an even tougher time finding time to ride and fulfill the duties we all expect them to accomplish. We must always remember these people have jobs and miscellaneous other commitments but still, through their dedication, they take care of all the duties required by HOG and our chapter. I am looking forward to working with our 2011 officers. I feel we have another great group of volunteers wanting to come up with some safe and fun activities for all of us is going to be a terrific year. Your 2011 EVHOG Holiday Party is an event you don t want to miss. This party has all the makings of a great time. The sign up forms are out, so grab one and join in the fun. In addition to the usual gifts up for grabs, we will be giving away two $500 cash prizes. The holiday committee has worked hard to make this a great time. Some other things to be watching the calendar for are the EVHOG Swap Meet and Member s Only Poker Run. We had both of these events last year. The swap meet is a great place to sell those items you taken off your bike or accumulated for various other reasons. Last year there was quite a variety of items such as: motorcycle parts, motor clothes, helmets and various other accessories. At our Member s Only Poker Run last year we had over 60 cycles participate. This year both of these events will be fun. Although this Winter cannot be a long as last year, I am already tired of cleaning and polishing the bikes. Ride Safe and Have Fun Ace 3

Happy 2011 EVHOG family and I hope the holidays treated you well. Looking back on 2010 there were many great activities and rides and I hope you all got to enjoy them. Looking forward 2011 it s time to start planning our rides for the year and don t forget the NE State HOG Rally. This year s Rally will be on May in Kearney, NE and the host hotel is the Kearney Holiday Inn. Friday May 27 for those who have pre-registered there will be a short ride to the Kearney Arch for a tour of the Arch and for those who have preregistered there will be a FREE DINNER! Saturday May 28 th will be a ride to North Platte, NE where the attendees will get to tour the Golden Spike and then ride to Budke Harley Davidson in North Platte for a FREE LUNCH! Sponsored by Budke Harley Davidson. Sunday May 29 th the committee is working with Bill and Sandy Lawry, the owners of Central Harley Davidson in Grand Island to open the store for a FREE Breakfast and other activities at the dealership. Now if none of the above has your interest the committee is also in the process of putting together some Observation Rides, Bike Games, Casino Night and of course the ever popular Biker Bingo! On that note the committee is asking all HOG members that if they have any motorcycle STUFF sitting around in their closets and not using such as small trinkets, nick-knacks, and such and you would be interested in donating for the Biker Bingo, and you would be willing to donate it the committee would be happy to transport it to Kearney so you won t have to worry about packing it. Of course the donations need to be made prior to the Rally. The committee has requested that we try and stay away from Junk (their words not mine) when considering items to be donated. If you wish to donate items please contact me at kevin@evhog.net and I will make the arrangements for your donations to reach the committee. 4

I ve been riding motorcycles since I was six years old. I started out at that time with an Italian made, PUCH scooter. I ve had many other motorcycles through the years including our first Harley in We now have a 2010 Ultra Limited. I am fortunate to have a wonderful wife (Holly) who loves to ride as much as I do. I am a EVHOG Charter member and have held various officer positions each year. I have attended H.O.G. Officer training on three occasions and I enjoy being a part of our chapter and especially all the great friends that we have made. Thank you for electing me as your 2011 Chapter Secretary (No, Ken, I m not shaving my legs!). I look forward to another great year of riding adventures with our good friends! Bob Gilbreath 5

Hello, I am Cindy Graham and I am your 2011 Ladies of Harley Officer. Thanks for giving me the opportunity for my try at leading the Ladies of Harley. I have been with the chapter since Sept (not that long) and I am fairly new to motorcycling. In 2006 my husband Kevin decided it was the right time to get a Harley, something he has wanted for a long time. He bought a 2002 Fat Boy. (Okay, fine, have fun with that, but what am I going to do while he is out riding? What was I missing?) I had only been on a motorcycle once in my life, so it took some time to get use to it and trust my driver - I was scared okay, petrified. Then in 2007 he came up with the idea that he needed another bike (what do you need two bikes for? I didn t get it.) Hence came the 2001 Screamin Eagle Road Glide. NOW I GET IT!!!!!!-and I ENJOY IT!!!!! I am so impressed with all the ladies in our Chapter that ride their own (what am I missing now?). I often go out to the garage and sit on my sons Yamaha and think maybe I can do this.never say Never.. We joined the chapter because we wanted to be with a group of friends who enjoy riding and have someone to ride with and EVHog fit for us. Enough about me. I hope to have a great year with fun activities and of course the favorites from the past but, I cannot do this alone. I need your help and support and mostly your ideas and suggestions. This is OUR Ladies of Harley-so we need to work together to make this a positive experience. We all have different personalities and ideas on how things are done; I hope we can work together. Ladies of Harley is only what WE TOGETHER make of it. Let s exchange ideas, get to know one another and enjoy a meal. The first LOH Meeting of 2011 will be held on Tuesday JANUARY 25 TH at 6:30 pm at the SUMMER KITCHEN CAFÉ (Eagle Run) 3685 N. 129 th Street-129 th & West Maple. Please join me; I am looking forward for your input on things YOU want to do this year and what YOU want to get out of the Ladies of Harley. Everyone is welcome whether you are a: Queen of the Road-she rides her own bike Princess on a Pedestal-she has a chauffeur and still gets to enjoy the thrill of the ride. (That would be me.) Lady in Waiting-she provides support, enjoys the camaraderie but prefers the stability of four wheels And of course GUYS are always welcome. 11

Fellow H.O.G. Members My name is Mark Henry and I am your 2011 Head Road Captain. I look forward to working with the activities and other officers of the group to help organize many fun and memorable events for the year to come. To me the responsibility of being a Road Captain, Lead or Sweep (trail), is not to be taken lightly. The Lead Road Captain s responsible for ensuring the safest path, while still keeping it exciting and fun for the group that is following them. While it is the responsibility of the Lead to get the riders to their destination safely, it is the responsibility of the Sweep to ensure that all people who leave with the group- get to the destination. Not all people have the same riding experience or abilities, it is a good feeling for most knowing that there is a Road Captain in the rear to stop and help out when necessary. My background - I have been riding motorcycles since I was 14 years old. I learned to ride on an old Honda 350 Enduro chasing ground squirrels in an alfalfa field. I was hooked and have been riding ever since. Over the years, I have owned many bikes, from dirt to street cruisers and Harleys to metric touring bikes. It was after I had bought my second Harley in 2001 that I had joined H.O.G.. I had heard about the organization but never even gave a thought of riding with a corporate sponsored group, tried that once on another brand and it left a bad taste in my mouth. A friend of mine at work got me to attend one meeting at the Cut n Shoot chapter, out of Conroe Texas ( members). I was amazed; the chapter meeting took up the majority of a good sized American Legion Hall. Everyone was friendly and outgoing. Over the next few years, they really made me feel like I belonged to something. Cut n-shoot involved a lot of longer rides and charity work; with a group that large there was many activities to choose from. From there I moved to the Fort Worth Chapter of H.O.G. where I watched a chapter shutdown, then was part of its rebuild from 23 to 350 members in one year. In the different H.O.G. chapters that I have belonged I ve worn many hats from Sweep Road Captain, Lead Road Captain, Activities Officer, to Secretary. Here at Elkhorn Valley Chapter of H.O.G., as Head Road Captain, I would like to build a group of individuals that can safely lead our chapter on its many adventures that lay ahead. We plan on giving our road captains the training needed to assist others in group that may not be as experienced when unplanned events occur on chapter rides. This includes the opportunity of basic and advanced rider s courses, emergency first aid, advanced group riding scenarios, accident scene management, and basic motorcycle familiarization and band-aide maintenance. In February I will be sending out an to all chapter members requesting volunteers, whether you have been a Road Captain in the past or not, to fill the many needed Road Captain positions. Again, as part of your new 2011 Elkhorn Valley H.O.G. Officer Group, we hope to provide many safe and fun rides for the year to come. I look forward to adventures we will experience together. Mark Henry Head Road Captain Elkhorn Valley H.O.G. 12

I d like to introduce myself. I am Sandy Kovar aka Scrappy Doo and I am the 2011 Editor for the Elkhorn Valley H.O.G. Chapter Newsletter. Okay so you re thinking Scrappy Doo? Scrappy Doo - isn t he that annoying little mutt who hangs around with Scooby? Yep that s me. It started a long time ago with a very good friend who knew and understood my various moods and quirks and suffice it to say the term Puppy Power fit to a T. So now that s out of the way.. I have been with the Chapter for going on 7 years now and I have been editor three times before, including last year. So I must be doing something right. Or no one else wants the job? When Jim (yep, he s Scooby) and I bought our first bike I had never heard of a Harley Chapter. I thought you just met someone on the road and started riding. Little did I know how our lives were about to change. We have done more in the last 7 years than I think either of us had done in the rest of our lives. I have always been so grateful for the friends we have made and I feel as if I have one big extended family. So since we are all family, this is your newsletter. Please feel free to contribute to it at any time with pictures, stories, or just facts that you want others to know. And if you have comments or suggestions on the newsletter I m always open for new ideas. Here s to Another Great Year - Scrappy 13

I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. I am Kevin Graham your elected Safety Officer. I look forward to a fun and safe year with all the HOG members and all the upcoming rides and activities that will occur in I know our chapter is made up of riders from all walks of life and skill sets, this to me is what makes this group interesting. My primary task is to ensure that new riders and skilled riders alike can safely participate in all activities together. A little about myself now, I am fairly new to the street bike scene since my experience in the past was always with Motocross bikes. A little different when you bike has some actual weight. We (Cindy and I) actually have a 2002 Fatboy and a 2001 Screamin Eagle Road Glide we keep at the Graham Corral. We purchased the Fatboy back in 2006 after taking a refresher course through Riders Edge. I thought I would start out with an article that I am sure some of you can relate to. I know I can relate to some of these on the list. Enjoy 34 Ways To Dump Your Bike Confessions from those who have done it 1. Putting your foot into a hole when stopping. 2. Putting your foot down on something slippery when stopping. 3. Locking the front wheel during overenthusiastic braking. 4. Not putting the kickstand down when getting off. 5. Not putting a board under the kickstand on asphalt on a hot day. 6. Revving the engine, releasing clutch, and putting feet on pegs when the light turns green, but the bike's in neutral. 7. Not putting your foot down when stopping at red light. 8. Take an hour ride in 30 degree weather with no gloves, stop at a stop sign and pop the clutch when you start because you've lost feeling in your hands. 9. Putting your foot down at a toll booth on the thick layer of grease that builds up when cars stop. 10. Using too much power when you pull out of a greasy toll booth. 11. Getting off your bike while it is running and forgetting that is in gear. 12. Bald tires, and a smatter of rain. 13. After getting fuel at a gas station and holding the bike level with your legs in order to fill it completely, jumping off forgetting that your legs were holding it upright not the kickstand. 14

14. Backing down an inclined driveway, turning to either side with a full tank of gas. 15. Kick stand slowly burying itself in hot asphalt. 16. Kick stand slowly burying itself in soft ground. 17. Backing up perpendicular to a steeply sloped driveway and attempting to put your foot down on the downhill side while on a large bike with a high seat. (By the time your foot reaches the ground the bike is so far off center balance you won't be able to hold it up.) 18. Backing your bike down a plank, by yourself, from the bed of a pickup truck. Works great as long as you remember that once you start moving, stopping for any correction is out of the question. Get two people to stand on each side of you and the bike. 19. Losing your balance when coming to a stop because of fatigue from a long trip. The wind and the buzz of the bike induces an unexpected case of vertigo. Stop often and rest. 20. Not paying attention. Always strive to anticipate what could possibly go wrong and be planning what you're going to do when it happens, eventually it will - and you'll be ready, instead of surprised when you're much more likely to do something stupid and reactionary. 21. Assuming that all wet roads are created equal. They are much more slippery when it first starts to rain - until the oil and dirt are washed away. 22. Assuming that the condition of a blind corner is the same as it was the last time you rode it. Instead you find sticks, road kill, oil, rain wash, stones, pot holes, garbage, etc. 23. Riding without all of the protective equipment because I forgot to bring it and after all it was just this one time. Turned out to be the wrong time! 24. Using a little too much power turning the first corner after you've put on new tires (with that nice slippery release compound on them). 25. Being too short for the bike you're riding, and coming to a stop sign. 26. Your rider hops on before you are ready. 27. Park pointing downhill, and don't leave it in gear. 28. Park with side kickstand facing up hill, and the side kickstand is too long. 29. Riding in stilettos and getting stuck on the footrest. 30. Reaching down to pick up your gloves/keys/glasses. 15

31. Forgetting to remove the disc lock and taking off from the curb with haste...tends to break the front caliper, too. 32. Falling asleep. 33. Hitting that patch of sand which has washed across the road on a blind bend. 34. Put armor-all on your tires to make them look nice and pretty and then ride on the white safety lane line as you take a HARD right turn at 35mph. 16

In the year So now that we come to the end of 2010, I thought we could take a look back at Many of you will have your memories of 2010, so here is what you may have enjoyed in 2008: Our Holiday Party was held on January 30, at the DC Center. Cliff Karr was our out-going President. The Chapter held events such as the Pop and Docs ride, Day of the HOG (of course!), the Dodge City Ride, a ride to the Arch in Kearney, the hayrack ride, the Omaha Beef games, Ollie the Trolley and all the great events Dillon s put on. Our group brought home the Chapter Challenge trophy and the Elkhorn Valley H.O.G. brought home more trophies in the games than any other group. We did have a few members that had some difficulties keeping their bikes upright, but luckily those persons got through their injuries or were lucky enough to not to suffer any. However, on the flip side there was an outing to the Funny Bone; these were not related in any way Our Nebraska State Rally as held in Grand Island in May and for those of you that went it was a great time. It was my first State Rally and the first time I saw bike games and they were something! For those of you who don t remember, it was also the 5 th Anniversary of our Chapter. I hope you all have your 5 th Anniversary t-shirts as your memorabilia of the event held in Bennington. Who can forget Hank the Hog? He made his debut and boy did he travel. He attended more events and travels than most of our people members did. National s were held in Oklahoma City. For those of us that made the trip down, we enjoyed a balmy 117 degree trip. I felt like a fried egg by the time we rolled in, but for the fun we had, as usual, it was worth it. Our Day of the HOG was dry, thank goodness, and netted a total of $68, Always a major fundraiser for MDA, but our members don t stop there, many volunteer time for other MDA fundraisers. Our Cookie Run was a great success once again, and this is a fun and VERY rewardable event in case you have never done this. Put it down on your schedule for next year in September, you will be glad you did. Toward the end of the year we saw the great pumpkin at the Hog-A-Ween party. Once again, thanks to the Welcherts to inviting us into their home. So, that s a wrap for In a month or so, I will wrap up the year for 2009/2010. I was lucky enough to serve as your Historian in 2010, and luckier to continue in Once again I am already planning another history CD for one of our Chapter meetings, and I know I can still dig up some interesting factoids for you to enjoy in the coming year. I will still ride with my husband Kevin, enjoy my kids and grandkids, my two Italian Greyhounds, and all my friends I have made with our Chapter. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to be your Historian, and remember, if you would like to review any of our past history in print, it is located upstairs in the bookcase at Dillon Brothers. Here is to a great year of friendship and riding! 17
