2 Making it easier for you New cycle parking spaces New cycle parking spaces have been installed at the Confucius Institute for Ireland building and refurbishment and upgrades of parking spaces between the Newman and Library buildings are on the way. DART shuttle bus A UCD-DART shuttle bus runs between the O Reilly Hall carpark and Sydney arade station from 8-10am and during term time. It costs just c1 a trip! Shower & changing facilities Shower and locker facilities are available in a number of locations across the campus including at the UCD Sports Centre, Science Hub and on the Blackrock Campus. Check our interactive map for details on other locations at map.ucdestates.ie Bike lockers & secure bike parking The secure bike lock-up facility between the O Brien Centre for Science and James Joyce Library is free for all staff and students. Our bike lockers at the UCD Sports Centre and Building 71 are being upgraded to use Bluetooth Noké locks in time for September. For more information drop into Campus Services in the Agriculture Building.
3 Other initiatives in place Student residences Work has commenced on the first phase of our new student residences more people living on campus means less commuting. This phase will provide approximately 1,000 additional student bed spaces. Walk Safe Our Walk Safe service is available if you would like to be accompanied while walking through campus at night. Campus development Have you noticed the new LED lighting and CCTV around campus? We re working hard to make the campus an even safer place for everyone. Get involved with the UCD Green Campus Want to help improve the environmental credentials of the University in areas such as sustainable commuting? Follow Estate Services or the Student s Union on Twitter and Facebook for updates on how to get involved #ucdgreencampus or for more information see
4 What else is planned? ublic bike repair stands ublic bike repair stands will be provided in several locations across the campus to make everything from minor repairs to re-inflating your tyres much easier. Bike safety & maintenance seminars Our bike safety and maintenance seminars will provide useful information for two-wheeled commuters. on Twitter or Facebook for more information. New 175 bus route A new Dublin Bus service to UCD from Tallaght via Rathfarnham and Dundrum commences this September. The UCD Commuting Survey helped to identify the demand for this service. New pedestrian & cyclist entrance A new cycle and pedestrian entrance is planned to the front of Nova UCD which will make access to the Belfield campus safer and easier.
5 What can you do? Follow the trend Both staff and students are increasingly ditching the car and using public transport. Why not start by trying it one day a week? Tax incentives makes it cost effective too! DART to UCD? With the shuttle bus from Sydney arade running all semester why not consider trying the DART to commute? Challenge yourself At times it can be difficult to fit in exercise into our busy schedules. Why not try walking, cycling or running to UCD and integrate your commute and exercise? Your health and wallet would benefit!
