ROUTES
TRAVEL By Road The address for Penn House estate is: Penn House, Penn Street, Amersham, HP7 0PS. The car park entrance is at the junction of Penn St and Horsemoor Ln. If approaching from the South/South East please leave the M40 at junction 2, follow the A355 northbound. After 1.5km turn left on Ledborough Rd and then right on B474 (Horsemoor Rd). Follow this road until you see car park signs and event stewards. By Train The closest train stations are Beaconsfield or Amersham. Both train stations are 3.5 miles (20 minute ride) to the venue. Before purchasing your train tickets please make sure the service you are using allows bicycles on the trains.
CAR PARKING Please leave plenty of time to get to the event. Car parking opens at 5:30am. Car parking will be in the large field behind the Penn House Estate. The car park will be accessible from junction of Penn St and Horsemoor Ln. We have enough space for everyone but please do arrive early to avoid queuing. When departing the car park please follow the exit signage/staff and be vigilant as for a lot of you our riders will still be finishing. Better yet, please stay around the event village, enjoy the festivities and take in the atmosphere. The parking is on grass so if you have a particularly low car please be aware of this.
EQUIPMENT BIKE: Please make sure it is in good condition! There will be mechanics at the start venue and at all Feed Stations on the route, but we would advise making sure your bike is in tip top condition prior to arriving at the event. HELMET: Helmets are compulsory and MUST be worn on the day. DRINKS BOTTLES & REFRESHMENTS: You will be able to replenish at the Feed Stations but ensure you start out with the right sustenance with you (full drinks bottles / snacks etc). BIKE REPAIR KIT: Your bike repair kit - spare inner tubes, pump, puncture repair kit including tyre levers, multi-tool, chain tool, Shimano pin etc. There will be mechanical support around the route. MONEY: Please ensure you bring some change with you to pay for any parts you may need on the course (mechanical support is free but you may need to pay for some parts), as well as for a coffee before you start and for catering at the finish! CLOTHING: Conditions can vary greatly across the distance of the route, so please ensure you bring wet weather gear, sun screen, mobile phone and some form of identification. EVERYTHING IN YOUR EVENT PACK (for details see next page).
EVENT PACK Your Event Pack will be posted to you a week prior to the event (overseas entrants will need to collect their pack on the day). If, for whatever reason, you have not received your event pack by the event weekend, simply come and see us at the Help Desk (near the welcome gantry) at the start and we will be able to issue a new pack to you. Within your pack, you will receive your event number, helmet and bike stickers, coloured card and timing chip, all of which you need to bring with you to the event 1. Large Event Number: This must be attached to your outside garment on your back with safety pins (we do not supply the safety pins). This must be visible at all times (on your back) during the ride and is your passport to the Feed Stations and sweep vehicle where required. 2. Coloured Card: This is for us to identify who is riding which distance so the colour you have received will match your chosen distance. Please attach this to the front of your bike with the cable ties provided two cable ties around the top and one around the bottom to go round your bike stem or wires. 3. Helmet and Bike Stickers: These stickers, printed with your event number, should be affixed as follows: One small one to the FRONT of your helmet (so we can identify you from the front) One small one on the bottom of your Coloured Card The long one around your seat tube pointing backwards (so we can identify you from the side) 4. Timing Chip: This is a very important bit of equipment. If it is not attached correctly it may result in a fault. It should be attached to the LEFT hand side of your helmet as per the instructions provided in the pack. 5. Climb Information Top Bar Sticker (Gran/Medio Fondo Only): This is non-permanent, non-marking sticker to go on the top bar of your bike to warn you of all the up and coming climbs, their length, gradient and where they fall on the route.
SIGNAGE There are 3 different distances to ride at the 2017 Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival Sportive. The route maps and GPX files can be found on our website and by clicking here. Signage From start to finish there will be signage marking the route. Everyone will initially follow WHITE ON RED arrows until you reach a Route Split location. Please ensure that you look out for Route Split signs and make sure that you are then following the correct arrows for your chosen route (as shown below). When you see a Route Merge sign you will then return to following WHITE ON RED signs. Gran Fondo: White arrow on Red Medio Fondo: White arrow on Green Corto Fondo/Amersham Classic: White arrow on Blue NOTE: We reserve the right to terminate participation on health and safety grounds. This includes, but is not limited to, the re-direction or closure of sections of the route due to events outside our control, rider route progress, or in the event of severe weather conditions.
SIGNAGE Signs may also indicate when you are approaching a Feed Station, route split or timed section. Additionally, there may be Caution, Junction Ahead, Slow, Caution Course Narrows Ahead, Single File, Keep Left and other signage along the route. Please observe these, signage is in place for your safety and to warn you of what is approaching on the Highway - HOWEVER signs will not & cannot highlight every risk or road condition and so you must be alert & maintain awareness of your surroundings and other road users at all times NOTE: We reserve the right to terminate participation on health and safety grounds. This includes, but is not limited to, the re-direction or closure of sections of the route due to events outside our control, rider route progress, or in the event of severe weather conditions.
CYCLING CODE From start to finish participants will be expected to adhere to Human Race s cycling code as follows: All roads are open to live traffic, you must ride safely & remain aware of your surroundings plus other road users, and you must follow / obey all Highway Code rules & road regulations at all times. You are requested to ride in single file where appropriate and no more than 2 abreast at any time. Single file riding is mandatory when double white line systems are in operation on the roads of the route. Please always remain / be aware of your fellow cyclists, other road users & pedestrians, give way where required, and obey all road regulations, highway signage, and any specific event signage which has been erected. Please always indicate and signal your intention to stop, change direction, or manoeuvre at a junction. Please do not pass through any red traffic lights but wait as directed. Similarly give way at all pedestrian crossings to any persons using them. We reserve the right to terminate your participation if you fail to comply with any of the above or are seen to be riding dangerously. Event stewards, motorcycle marshals and staff are located out on route and will be clearly visible, they are there primarily for your safety and to be the eyes & ears of the event. Please listen and obey their instructions at all times. Please observe at all times all highways signage relating to descents, bends, general road regulations, cattle grids and any other hazards
FEED STATIONS There will be Feed Stations along the route at various location. Cyclists tackling the Gran Fondo Route will have three Feed Stations and one water station, those on the Medio Fondo Route will have two Feed Stations and those on the Corto Fondo/Amersham Classic will have one. Feed Stations Gran Fondo Medio Fondo Corto Fondo/Classic Studham Sports & Social Club 39km Halton Trinity Community Centre 82km 63.5km 26km Chinnor Recreation Ground 113km Upper North Dean Village Hall 157km 87km Feed Stations will provide a variety of sweet and savoury items. If you train with a specific product we advise bringing it along with you. Please be respectful of our Feed Station venues: do not drop any litter & please use the bins provided. Toilets are available at all stops, please make sure you use these rather than the hedge & please be respectful of all property along the route! Mechanics will also be available to help you with any bike issues at each Feed Station. Please ride sensibly throughout the whole route, stopping at traffic lights and following the Highway Code at all times.
ROUTE TIMINGS Final Timed Climb There is a final timed climb which goes up the Long Drive into the estate and then under the finish gantry, so finish fast! It is 1km at an average gradient of 3.7%. Prizes will be given out at 3pm to the fastest of each distance. Unfortunately we won t be able to count any timed climbs in this competition that finish after 2.45pm. The King & Queen of the Chilterns competition is sponsored by Blaser Mills, who are providing specially designed SaddleDrunk jerseys for the winners. Cut Off Times Due to venue restrictions all participants must have finished by 18:00. To achieve this, participants on the Gran Fondo must keep to minimum of 18 kph (this doesn t include feed station stops). For this reason anyone who reaches the second Gran Fondo/Medio Fondo split near Lacey Green after 14:00 will be kindly asked by a member of staff to drop down to the Medio Fondo route. Should any rider wish to continue on the Gran Fondo route past this cut off point, they will (and acknowledge that they) do so without support from our Human Race team.
IMPORTANT In the event of an emergency or problem during the event please contact Event Control based at the venue on the number below. EMERGENCY NUMBER: SWEEP VEHICLES: We will have a tail sweep vehicle out on the route to help you out with any issues and to pick you and your bike up should you not wish to carry on. We would ask you to please be patient with this service as, depending on your position on the course, others requiring picking up too, and the distance involved, it may take a while to get you back to the finish. We would also advice ensuring you have numbers for local cab companies/money on hand in case this situation arises. MEDICAL: There will be a medical presence at the start/finish venues, at each Feed Station and mobile along the route. MECHANICS: We will have bike mechanics in the event village and at each Feed Station. Please bring loose change to pay for any bike components you may need e.g. inner tubes.

WHERE TO WATCH THE TOUR DE FRANCE The Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Pays de la Loire The Loire à Vélo covers 300km within the region, running along the Loire from Cuffy in the department of Cher, out to Saint-Nazaire and the Atlantic. The Vélodyssée (French leg of EuroVelo1 linking Norway with Portugal) spans 420km in Pays de la Loire, taking cyclists along the Nantes-Brest canal and the Loire estuary, and then hugging the coast to the south of Vendée. Finally, the Vélo Francette s 250km regional section crosses Mayenne, Anjou and Vendée, following the course of several rivers on its way from Normandy to the Atlantic. STAGE 1: SATURDAY 7 JULY STAGE 2: SUNDAY 8 JULY STAGE 3: MONDAY 9 JULY STAGE 4: TUESDAY 10 JULY Noirmoutier Fontenay-Le- Compte (189km) Mouilleron-Saint Germain la Roche Sur Yon (183km) Cholet (Team time trial - 35km) La Baule Sarzeau (192km) With its 2,800km of cycle routes, few French regions are better suited to two-wheeled exploration than Pays de la Loire. And this year, it s under an even brighter cycling spotlight as it hosts the Grand Départ and first four stages of the 105th Tour de France. Find out more about #FeelAtlanticCoast.
