4 Generic Electrical Safety for Non-Qualified Workers Course objectives: Terminal Objective: Upon completion of this training, students will be able to recognize electrical safety hazards that may be encountered by non-qualified workers and the actions to be followed to minimize these hazards. Enabling Objectives: A. Describe the hazards of working around or with electrical equipment. B. Describe the types of equipment at a power plant that may pose electrical safety hazards. C. Describe the response for an electrical shock injury. D. State the purpose for the minimum safe distance for working around energized electrical equipment, including overhead and underground lines. E. State the employee's responsibilities and safe work practices when performing work involving electrical hazards. F. Describe alerting techniques used to warn and protect employees from electrical hazards, including: 1. Safety signs and tags 2. Barricades 3. Attendants Target Audience: This course is intended as information that will assist unqualified electrical workers when working around electrical equipment typically found at nuclear power plants. This course does not qualify workers to work with energized electrical equipment. It is the responsibility of the individual to follow all station procedures, policies, and programs for working around electrical components and when using electrical equipment. If students have questions about site-specific electrical procedures or requirements they should contact their supervisor or the site industrial safety department. Developmental Resource: 1) 29CFR Electrical Safety Reviewers: AEP, Tom Kanger Dominion, Alan Bassham Southern Nuclear, Tony Prestifilippo INPO, Terry Maund INPO, Ramon Martinez Page 4 of 45
