2 Henry Clay Band Notes Page 2 of 14 President s Pen HC Band Booster Co-Presidents Dear Band Family, We would like to congratulate all the senior band students on their graduation! As the parents of one of those senior band students, we can truly say we enjoyed all the performances we shared the last four years and we wish you well in your future plans. As the new Band Booster co-presidents, we thank Kathy and Scott Riley for their leadership this past year. We also thank all the "graduating" Booster parents for the many ways they worked to support the band program. We look forward to an exciting year with the band! Please get ready to come join the Boosters as we support the band directors and students in the coming year. July will be here before we realize it, and with it comes the start of the marching season and the opportunity to meet fellow band parents, band students, and band directors. The Henry Clay Band Boosters is a terrific group, which gets better with every new member! We look forward to meeting you on Monday, July 19, at 7P in the HC Band room at our first meeting of the band year. Have a wonderful summer! Evan performed and competed with Rhythm X out of Columbus, Ohio this past indoor season. Rhythm X finished less than a tenth of a point from winning their third consecutive World Class championship! Evan says it was the most fun he's ever had drumming. He just completed his junior year at MSU (Morehead) and is on pace to graduate next spring with his degree in Sports Management. 13 Henry Clay Band Notes Page 13 of 14 The Dog Days of Summer A guide to making the 2010 Blue Devil Band Camp the best ever! Band Camp is an exciting, intense experience. A new band is formed, students learn new skills and a new marching show begins to take shape. The success of the marching band season depends on the preparation and participation of each band member. Following the tips below will allow each member to make the maximum contribution to the success of the camp and the band. Be There! Attendance is the key! Marching band is the ultimate team activity. There is no first team, everyone participates. A few hours missed will put a student behind the rest of the band and later rehearsal time will be needed to catch up. Please schedule vacations, camps, appointments, etc. for dates and times that do not conflict with camp schedule. Be Prepared! Eat a good breakfast first and foremost! Also, most of camp is outside, in hot weather and involves vigorous physical activity. Get regular exercise, in the heat, during the weeks prior to camp. Keep your chops! Play your instrument or practice with your flag regularly prior to camp. Be Rested! Get plenty of rest and sleep each night before a camp day also vital! Be On Time! If you arrive on campus at the scheduled start time, you will be late for rehearsal. Allow plenty of time to obtain your instrument or apparatus from the band room, put on sun screen, eat that last bite of breakfast, etc and be ready to go, in the right location, at the scheduled start time. Bring the Right Stuff! Bring a water jug with water and drink lots of water throughout each day this is vital! Bring a sack lunch (and supper for the long days for percussion/guard members). Wear loose clothing (shirts required). Wear comfortable shoes with socks (sandals and flip flops are not appropriate). Use lots of high SPF sunscreen. Camp can really be a bummer with a bad sunburn!!! Wear a hat & sunglasses. Bring instruments, sticks, flags, reeds, valve oil, etc. and music as applies to you HC Band Camp Schedule July 18 Welcome (Back) to HC Band Pizza Party & Info, 6 p.m. (Please bring signed forms!)
