As a reminder to stay on top of everything, please continue to watch your and texts closely. In addition, please check the website often at and the Facebook Page, and check the online calendar often for updates also at March and April events and performances include HC Drumline, Colorguard and Drum Major training; KMEA All-District events/concerts; the HC Percussion/Jazz Extravaganza; HC Band Auditions; the HC Area Band Concert, HC New Member Orientation and the KMEA HS District 7 Band Festival performances for the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band; including community band events! As mentioned last month, we are an active, thriving band program, and we need an active, thriving volunteer fundraising Booster organization to keep us that way! Our students ALL benefit from every volunteer fundraising effort given by those who make it a priority, so please give you time fairly to our program! Please let us know how and where you can volunteer your time for our students! Thank you! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Sincerely, Bill Kite Director of Bands, Henry Clay High School william.kite@fayette.kyschools.us or
Henry Clay Band Notes Page 2 of 12 Dear Band Families, President s Pen HC Band Booster Co-Presidents Congratulations to the HC Jazz Ensemble on their performance at Comedy Off Broadway, the Lee Cruse Show, and the KMEA conference. They did a wonderful job and are another reason we all should be so proud of the Henry Clay HS Band program. The spring months are a busy time for the band program. We are currently seeking nominations for board officers to take the roles of president, vice-president, and treasurer. The booster program will not continue without these positions being filled. If you are willing to seek nomination or have questions regarding these roles, please contact Kathy Edwards at kathyandrussell@hotmail.com. All positions must be filled in order for the band program to continue to have a booster organization that can support the directors and students. Please consider what your role will be. There are a number of committee positions, which need to be filled also. The boosters cannot continue with just a handful of persons willing to be involved. We will be asking you to be an active part of the boosters, so consider what your interests are. Parents of sophomores and juniors can expect to be asked to assist with the Pops Concert and Band Banquet that are being planned for late May. The Pops Concert is sponsored by the sophomore class, and the Band Banquet is sponsored by the junior class. These events are always enjoyed by the families and students, and we don't want to let them down this year. Looking forward to spring performances, Russell and Kathy Edwards, HCBB Co-Presidents kathyandrussell@hotmail.com or HC Jazz Ensemble at KMEA Annual Conference
Henry Clay Band Notes Page 3 of 12 UPDATE ON BINGO POSITIONS Hi, everybody. Spring is arriving -- which means graduation isn't far behind! However, the upcoming graduation also means we need to fill the remaining bingo vacancies asap, both so the incoming people will have time to train before the outgoing people leave, and so the outgoing people (all of whom have worked bingo for 3-4 years) will be able to enjoy their seniors' final high school moments without worrying about the fundraising needs of NEXT year's band students. If you're a parent, you're probably already very busy with family, work, home and other commitments. I'm sure you look forward to having Saturday nights free for your own or family activities. You're not alone in feeling that way -- I dare say 99% of the band parents would agree with you. Unfortunately, if bingo is going to continue to benefit YOUR child next year as the band's largest fundraiser, additional parents will have to sacrifice time to keep the year-round program running. When all ongoing adult bingo positions are filled, each parent's time commitment is reasonable. Right now, however, only about 1 out of every 6 families is making the ongoing commitment to work at least once a month, in an ongoing position, to keep bingo running well. IF BINGO IS TO SUCCEED, SEVERAL MORE ADULTS MUST VOLUNTEER FOR ONGOING BINGO POSITIONS -- NOW!!! The current vacancies include the following: Paper counter positions: 3 people to work the first weekend of each month; 1 assistant to work the second weekend of each month; 1 assistant to work the fourth weekend of each month. Bingo callers: At least one more person, and preferably several more. Pulltab seller coordinator (performed from home via computer/phone). Counter worker coordinator (performed from home via computer/phone). I'm sure you're tired of hearing me make this same plea for workers -- I'm certainly tired of making it. However, the need is not going away -- if bingo is going to continue, additional adults will have to commit to its success, just as those of us who are leaving made a commitment several years ago. It's up to you, but we're rapidly running out of time. If you're willing to make a commitment (or if you just have questions), please contact Jean O'Daniel at jean.odaniel@insightbb.com, or (home). Thank you.

Henry Clay Band Notes Page 5 of 12 Kroger Cards offer a wonderful opportunity for the band! Kroger donates $4 to the band for every $100 loaded on a HC Band card; the card can then be used just like a prepaid credit or debit card for all Kroger purchases including prescriptions and gas. Your Kroger Gift Card can also be used to purchase a number of gift cards for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. available right at your Kroger store instead of having to travel to each store, restaurant, etc. to purchase gift cards! Usage is down a bit, so please remember to continue to use your cards! For more information or to purchase a card, contact Geni Osborn at: gosborn7@aol.com. KROGER GIFT CARDS We Need You!! We still have THREE crucial Booster position to fill: President, Vice President and Treasurer. Kathy and Russell Edwards have agreed to fulfill a second term as co-presidents if necessary, however, the vice-president and treasurer roles must be filled. The Vice President assists the president and helps with various committees. It is basically a year of learning the details of the Booster organization in preparation for becoming president the following year. Please consider the vice president or treasurer positions and contact Kathy and Russell Edwards at: kathyandrussell@hotmail.com VALUE CARDS We are still selling VALUE CARDS and need your help! The cards are now $5 and worth hundreds of dollars in discounts! Please call Dana or at: danasilver@insightbb.com. Parents need to sign for the cards, and I can arrange to meet you after school or whenever is convenient. Also, those who currently have Value Cards need to turn the money into the band box! You may get more cards to sell at anytime, but the money from the first round of sale needs to be in now.
Henry Clay Band Notes Page 6 of 12 We just completed the ordering phase of our second annual School Spirit Coffee Fundraiser. The fundraiser provides the HC Band the opportunity to sell private labeled coffee that is roasted specifically for and at the time of our orders. In addition to coffee, we also offer teas and instant beverages. One pound of coffee brews 110 cups of coffee, which makes each cup less than 12 cents a cup. That is a bargain when compared to coffee shop prices! Orders were due in the band room March 2, delivery will be the week of March 14 with the money collected at the time orders were taken.
