There will be a prize and refreshments will be provided! #BSUGotYOu Monday, Oct 7pm at 101B-101D SLC PRIDE STUDENT UNION QUEER OPEN MIC NIGHT Queer Open Mic night is an event hosted by the Pride Student Union which allows individuals within the LGBTQ+ community to showcase their talents to their peers while meeting and building community with others in the greater Florida State community. There is a racial disparity for African American and other minorities in the Bone Marrow registry. COME OUT to LANDIS to get swabbed on Friday, Oct. 20! On Landis Green from 2pm-6pm Market Wednesday Wear pink to Market Wednesday for Breast Cancer Awareness! This timehonored tradition dates back to over 40 years ago and has brought in hundreds of vendors, student organizations, and campus departments combined. Whether you re new to campus or you re starting your final year, we re excited to welcome you to The Yard! Come shop, network, and dance (yes, dance!) in the Oglesby Union Courtyard. Local vendors will be there between 8:00am and 5:00pm. Student organizations and campus departments will be there from 10:00am- 1:00pm. Torch Night Ceremony Join us Tuesday as we honor the recipients of the 2017 Torch Night Award! This recognition is given to the top members of the incoming freshman class who have demonstrated leadership skills prior to becoming part of our Seminole family. We will hold the Torch Night ceremony this Tuesday, October 17th at 5:30pm in Dodd Hall

This classic follows the unlikeliest of romantic pairings. A notorious gambler attempts to woo a straight-laced, save-your-soul missionary in hopes of winning a bet. Meanwhile, a lamenting showgirl, tired of waiting for a wedding, seeks to hook her fiancée of 14 years. Place your bets on love conquering all in this hilarious Broadway classic featuring a bushel of songs you know and love. Richard G. Fallon Theatre Friday, October 20th: 5-10pm at College Town Friday Night Block Party Friday Night Block Party is now in Collegetown! The Friday Night Block Party is the official tailgate event and features live music along with onsite vendors and special appearances! 3 MEL S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Issue 7 3 DOGS WALKING HUMANS Join us for a walk around Lake Ella or Cascades Park! Volunteers meet up at Northwood Animal Hospital to take the currently adoptable CARE dogs/puppies for walk. This helps increase the quality of life for our canines while providing them with socialization/leash training and increasing the visibility of CARE in the community. There is no minimum volunteer commitment to participate in this opportunity. If you are interested in volunteering for CARE please complete a volunteer application at: All volunteers are required to attend an orientation session prior to their first shift. These orietations are held three times per year. If your application is approved, the volunteer coordinator will contact you with an invitation to orientation. All volunteers for CARE must be over 18 years of age. For more info volunteer@careintallahassee.org TRUNK OR TREAT! The Learning Pavilion is looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help us with our annual Trunk Or Treat event! What is a Trunk or Treat? Our Trunk or Treat Event asks that businesses, l ike your own, decorate a trunk to fit a certain t heme or idea. Participants can dress up in costume to fit the theme. Trunks are also encouraged to incor porate a simple game or motor activity with the theme. Trunks can provide candy or prizes to o ur kiddos as they walk, with their parents, to ea ch vehicle trick-ortreating, playing, learning and having fun! #sm artplay What do volunteers do? We have several ways to volunteer and all of them are fun! Help Decorate the Trunks from 3:30pm- 5:00pm: Come early and help our Parents, teachers and local businesses decorate their trunks for the kiddos. Stay after and enjoy the festivities. Help "Run" a Trunk (4:30pm-7:00pm) Dress up in costume and help our teachers and parents pass out candy and help kids with the games. Help with Crowds and Traffic 3:30-7:00pm: Help us keep our students and their families safe by directing traffic and parking away from the main event. Help with clean up 5pm-7:30pm: Help us keep our school clean by picking up the parking lot area during and after the event. This event is open to the public and we hope to have a wonderful time with our families this year. Volunteers can qualify for community service hours toward school. Costumes aren't required but they are encouraged! Nothing too scary for the little kiddos though! Volunteer groups welcome! Located at FSU s Circus Tent near Doak Cambell Stadium FALL 2017 STUDY ABROAD FAIR Interested in seeing the world and getting academic credit at the same time? Come out to the study abroad fair hosted by the International Programs department on Wednesday, October 18th from 10-2pm on Union Green! Members of the department, along with various program leaders, will be present to answer any questions about the many international opportunities FSU offers to students.
