Children and teachers have been preparing all over the Primary school and some of the Science Fair participants started back in December. It is a great way to celebrate this important curriculum subject and although there is a competition in the higher grades where there will be winners, it is the process that is most important. Learning the scientific language and understanding what constitutes a fair test are paramount. The tension is palpable as judging has taken place over the last two days and tonight we look forward to seeing who the winners are.

2 NBIS SECONDARY SPORTS DAY Secondary Sports Day (Y7-13) at NBIS is here!! The students have been working hard in P.E. class to improve their various Track and Field abilities.from javelin to long jump..100m to 800m! Secondary Sports Day will take place this Friday, March 30th from 9:15am to 1:00pm approx. (weather permitting). Parents/caregivers are welcome to come and support.

3 The Secondary School is really looking forward to this event, which promises to showcase the athletic capabilities of all students competing. Secondary students should wear their PE uniform and house colours to school on Friday, 30th.

4 NINGBO INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PTA MEETING 9th of April 2018, NBIS INVITATION Dear Parents/Teachers, We want to invite you to our next PTA meeting. Monday April 9th. The meeting will start at 9.15am in Conference Room (on the 4th floor, NBIS). At this meeting we will discuss and plan for the end of the year event, our Summer Splash. We are planning a big event for the whole school on June 2nd. We will need your help on the day of the event and hope that you will be able to attend this meeting. The PTA s mission is for parents and teachers to work together for the benefit of the school, and ultimately its pupils, by organizing school activities and events for parents, teachers and students. 6 Reception B pompoms After days of concentration and persistence Reception B students are happy to have finally finished making an animal pompom, some students even made two or three! Recording Studio Wednesday 28 th March had finally arrived, a day where the sun was shining and wrapping Ningbo in some much needed golden warm rays. The bus journey was full of random songs and shouts of that s my house! Once inside, we sat down in anticipation and were then whisked off to do the recording. The room was full of technical equipment, speakers and microphones. Behind the glass windows (or blurry plastic) were the sound-proofed recording rooms. Everyone was so excited to start the recording. Ben started us off on the right track, finding some extra levels to his voice. Wow! Just you wait and see.

7 The rest of the day we were all going in and out of different rooms, singing the lines for our parts of the songs. It is a good job we have practiced as much as we did. After I finished Shake it Off, I came out, as Mr. Wilkinson put it a little dazed and confused, I think I was just blown away by what we were doing. We all sang beautifully and were all really proud of what we had achieved. We hope it will inspire the rest of the school for our up-coming production. Talking of which, if you have not heard yet, upper primary are rehearsing for a full school production in May. There will be singing, dancing and acting throughout. We hope you can all come and see it (maybe twice!!!) It is a story based on the Wizard of OZ, well sort of. I am playing the Scarecrow and I won t have a brain. Luckily I do have one really, which is why Mr. Wilkinson asked me to right this (I know it is write really). Felicia (Year 7) NBIS Football Another weekend at NBIS; another set of matches for the NBIS Secondary Football Team. This time they were pitted against HD Ningbo School and AIAN.

8 The weather was extremely hot and conditions proved to be difficult for the intense level of football that was on show. NBIS were wearing they brand new uniform for the first time and wanted to get off to a winning start. They were victorious in the first game, defeating HD Ningbo School 2-1. Unfortunately, they were unable to continue with their winning ways; defeated by AIAN in a fiercely contested match. All credit goes to the NBIS Football Team for working as a team and never giving up. Both performances showed the strength of their character. The final set of matches will take place on Saturday, April 21st. This will be the culmination of the season and it would be great to get as much support as possible to spur the team on.

9 OUTDOOR EDUCATION IT S HAPPENING! A super response from Primary Parents means that in June, 40 of our Primary Section Students in Y4-6 will go on the first ever NBIS Outdoor Education Programme, operated by the Indier Outdoor Education Company. The trip will take them to Nanbeihu for a 3 Day Adventure Learning Progamme, including two nights away from parents the first in a hotel, the second, camping. Participants will get the chance to learn about team-building, kayaking or raft-building, high ropes, camp cooking, navigation and hiking. Indier s eco-friendly approach means that students will also learn how to engage with the natural environment and leave no trace behind. Such trips are often the highlight of a school year and really help young people develop life-long skills. Art of the Week We re all delighted that this is happening. Thank you Parents!!!
