We did set up a rain date this year of June 21st. We need to do that every year from now on. Mike Bell Chevrolet is once again our host. They also sponsor several trophies and pay for the DJ and the PA system. We owe Zac Bell a big thank you. The Show will be from 10 AM to 2 PM. We'll make the awards at 2PM. Our "voice" Bill Hearnburg will once again act as our MC. Liz and I ran the 19th Annul Social Security Run for cars made in 1942 or earlier in May. Look for a write up and some pictures later on in this issue. Don't forget our sister region Ga/Al, is having their meeting this Saturday at the Vernon Woods Retirement Center in LaGrange. We'll have a cruise in and lunch. The residents really enjoy seeing the old cars. RSVP to Charles Norris asap if you can attend, so they have a head count for lunch. The Charles Norris is sethnor@mindspring.com We'll have our last meeting before Show day this Thursday at American Pie on Maple St at 6:30. Everyone try to come so we make finalize plans for the Show. The Little Birdie was flying around recently and spotted the Hearnburgs and the Novaks lounging in European environs. 3 19th Annual Social Security Run...Done! By Rick Horne The 19th Annual Atlanta Region, Horseless Carriage Club of America, Social Security Run was held in LaGrange Ga. This was our third and last time in LaGrange. The SSR location rotates every two to three years. The car count was 65 this year. That is down from most years. Many of the regulars were attending graduations for children and/or grandchildren this year. We had cars from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. A grand time was had by all. Well there were three folks that had car troubles so maybe there's was not as much fun as usual. Two had loose wheels and one had a fan blade break off. All three were Model A Fords. Models As are tough so they'll be back. The SSR is a three day hub tour. On Thursday evening we toured to West Point Lake just over the border in Alabama for Driver Introduction. Liz is our driver for this event. The driver receives his or her banner which you tie on the back if the car. The banner has your number on it as well as the SSR Logo. The majority of cars every year are Model A and Model T Fords but, we do get many other interesting marques. Studebaker, Buick,Lincoln, Marmon, Packard, Duesenberg, Cadillac, Stanley, Oldsmobile, Stephens, Sterns, Stevens-Duryea, Locomoblie, and of course Pierce-Arrow to name a few. Friday is the Medicare Tour. We toured down to Fort Benning to see the Infantry Museum. This museum should be on everyone's bucket list. For a guy who spent a lot of time in the air, this museum gives one a heightened respect for the "ground pounders". Saturday morning dawned with rain in the air but, it held off for us. The SSR is comprised of a poker run as well the timed SSR. The time is cumulative. Running time only is recorded by each navigator. In Liz's case that would be me. Poor Liz she is at a such a disadvantage... The winner is the car which comes the closest to the average of all the cars. This way there is no advantage to drive fast or speed. We toured to Williamson Georgia and Candler Field. Ron Alexander and friends have formed a 501c3 foundation to build a replica of the original Candler Filed in Atlanta which was on the site of the present day Hartsfield Airport. This too is a must see location. Many antique and vintage airplanes are hangared there They also have many antique cars around the place. Everything runs and is exercised regularly on the property. Most drivers are back at the hotel by 3PM. Saturday evening is the awards banquet. The winners of the Poker Run as well as the SSR were announced. Also some nice door prizes were given out. Another feature of this and other old car tours are the vintage clothing. May of the participants wear vintage clothing on the tours and at the banquet. It's hard choice for the judges but, a best dressed man, woman and couple are chosen. Also part of the banquet is a variety show. The Atlanta Region of the HCCA has many talented members. This Georgia lawyer, planter, politician, jurist, states' rights advocate and Soldier became the namesake for the U.S. Army's most important post He raised a Confederate regiment, led troops in 11 major battles and distinguished himself at Sharpsburg and Chickamauga "The Rock" exhibit of the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Actual film footage was projected on the "cliffs" and above into the parachute canopy. 4 Luncheon for a Benning graduating class in the upstair lobby amongst the vast exhibits on the premises.

5 The National Infantry Museum has one of the most extensive artifacts of US wars known. Baton of Field Marshal Maximllian Freiherr von Weichs Chandler Field in Williamson, Georgia is to antique aviation what the AACA is to antique cars. An antique Waco, that is completely air worthy, lives at Chandler Field with a Curtis "Jenny" which is one of six known. Downtown Hogansville, GA was a morning stop. The Spring Festival was underway and there was lots of shopping and food! 5

6 The Social Security Run tour route crossed the oldest covered bridge in Georgia built in the 1840's Out on the other side! Red Oak Creek Covered Bridge was built by freed slave Horace King in the 1840's. Horace King built many covered bridges in West Georgia during his lifetime. 6

8 ANTIQUE AUTO CLUB OF AMERICA WEST GEORGIA REGION MEETING NOTES FROM APRIL 3, President Rick Horne called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm following our dinner. In the absence of Secretary Gary Moyses, Vice President Glenn Novak took the minutes. 2. We had no treasurer report at this meeting. 3. June 14 is our annual car show date and we will need to get trophy sponsors. Our new flyers will show a class for orphan cars. 4. The tour to see the George Buggs auto collection in Athens is on April 26 and we will meet up with the Golden City Cruisers at the Villa Rica Walmart parking lot, and leave at 7 am for the day trip. We will likely drive modern cars and car pool if desired. George has over 100 great old cars as well as jukeboxes, neon, gas pumps, etc. 5. Member Frank Hummel did our program starting at 7:16 pm and began with a brief overview of Colonial Pipeline and the products the company moves across the country underground. The route goes from Houston to New York as shown on the map he passed out. This was followed by a short video entitled Quiet Steel. Following the video, Frank had a Question and Answer session which proved interesting and informative. 6. Glenn Novak made a request that the club renew its license for its website domain name with GoDaddy.com, and the membership approved this request.
