Shore PTSA Officers Shore s Power of the Pen team competed last weekend at Perry Middle School. The 7th grade team took 4th overall and several of the students are moving on to regional competition! Here is the team with Mrs. Compton and Mrs. Puterbaugh, Shore s POP Advisors. Way to go POP! Dear Shore Community Member, 7th Grade Parents please mark your calendars for a very important meeting with the Lake County PLUS Instructors and members of the Lake County Sheriff s Department. This meeting will be held on February 1, 2012 from 7-9:00 p.m. at Memorial Middle School s Auditorium. The focus of the meeting will be to share PLUS survey results from the Mentor 7th grade classes, discuss synthetic drugs like SPICE and Bath Salts as well as some of the other drugs adolescents are getting involved in, and there will be information on Internet safety. PLEASE NOTE: This meeting is for PARENTS ONLY. The internet cutoff date for the February Market Day is February 1, Orders may be picked up on Monday, February 6 in the Shore cafeteria 3:30-4:30 p.m. Box Tops for Education are being collected and several have come in this week! The contest runs through Tuesday, January 31 turn them in to your Friday Advisory teacher with and mark their name and grade to be turned in to the PTSA! 2 7th grade student, Alexa Malnar (left), shares her 12th place medal at the recent District Power of the Pen Competition held in Perry! Alexa, Autumn Klobas, and Rachel Wenzel and 8th graders Alex and Danielle Kremer will be moving on to Regional Power of the Pen competition to represent Shore Middle School! Congratulations to our POP team for their hard work and great showing and good luck in your next writing venture! Congratulations to Kyle Hennig (98 lbs.) and Billy Hudson (HVYWT) for their recent championships at the Riverside Wrestling Tournament! The Shore team also had the following placers: Jesse Plymel 5th, Nick Kosmerl 6th, John Garmon 5th, Alex Piercy 5th, Andrew Lewis 3rd, Jake Williams 6th. Shore competes at the Maple Heights tournament this weekend and then wraps up their season at the Twinsburg Tournament next weekend! Please take the time to monitor your child and their use of technology. We have had an increase in instances where students have been posting inappropriate, hurtful, and/or threatening messages on Twitter accounts, Facebook, AIM, etc. that lead to problems here at school. Sometimes these messages are posted as late as 3AM on school nights! We cannot police this without the help of our parent community and need your help in ensuring that ALL of our students are safe! 6 Attention 6 th, 7 th and 8 th graders, It s back! The tourney you have all been waiting for. It s Dodgeball time! Stop by Mr. Toot s room to pick up a team sheet. We will play a double-elimination tournament on Monday, February 6 after school in the large gym. Don t miss out on the fun! See Mr. Toot for details. The tourney is open to all Shore students. 8th to 9th Transitional Meeting will be at the Fine Arts Center on 1/31/12 at 7 pm. Place all Market Day orders by Wed., Feb. 1st. and turn in all Market Day surveys to your advisory teacher by Jan. 27th. Your advisory could win a treat! Thank you!!! It s Box Top Time Again! Please bring in your box tops now and until 1/31. The advisory class with the most box tops will win a party. Make sure your advisory teachers name is on the bag with the box tops and grade. Put them in the PTA box. Tie Dye Night will be 2/2/12. Come cheer on the girls basketball teams in your favorite Tie Dye T-shirt and get a chance to win 2 FREE tickets to Kalahari. You must have a tie dye shirt on to receive a ticket for the drawing. There will be 2 winners! NJHS members are needed during our February fundraiser. If you would like to volunteer your time please see Miss Smith by Feb. 1st for more details! Art Club Valentine Keepsake Box Workshop Tue.- Wed., February 7&8, 2012, Room 130-3:45-4:30 each day Have some snacks and decorate a mini candy box for yourself or a Valentine. Materials and refreshments for both days are included in the $5.00 registration fee. Cheerleading Clinics for Middle School girls will be held March 12 th, 13 th and 14 th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the Mentor High School Student Center. The fee for each clinic is $6.00 per participant. The clinics will focus on skills for tryouts. Interested girls should pick up information including the required medical and insurance form from the main office. Mentor Girls Softball League information packets are available in both the main and guidance offices. From: Coach Wood - Congratulations to the 8th grade girls' basketball team for a hard-earned victory in a very tough environment yesterday at Chardon. The defensive intensity was high throughout the game, and the girls executed and made enough plays offensively down the stretch to secure the win. The team hosts Madison this Monday at 5:30.
