1 The Caravaner Your Hosts for Silent Valley, the Firesiders LIVE OAK WRAP-UP Once upon a time there was a place called Live Oak Camp, where many Lazy Dazers gathered for fun, friendship, and food. And so it was that on May another such conclave was assembled. With Roadrunners as hosts, each of those who approached the invisible gates was greeted with a smile and a gift of candy (all while relieving said guest of the required payment to enter). Thursday: Greetings, announcements and prizes were followed by Group Rep and Executive Council meetings. Oh - and it rained! Friday: began like Thursday, (but the joke of the day was better)! Later, on the Washer Toss battlefield, the Minnie and Mickey tournament was held. In the afternoon a blustery wind arose and blew us south of the border where salsa dancing was enjoyed and all feasted on the first rate offerings of those assembled. Of special note: the Roadrunner taco bar received special accolades. Applause to all who participated! Saturday: the craft fair followed morning announcements. Artisans displayed their varied and wonderful creations. After the General Meeting there were good-byes with promises to meet again soon. Until then, Laureta Gibbs Lazy Daze Caravaner 1

4 Peggy Zabel (The Pegster) Troop Bags 2nd Annual Lazy Daze Women s Only Charity Event Thank you to everyone that was involved in the Women s Only Sew-A-Thon creating troop bags for our US troops at our May Live Oak Caravan. We had ten sewing machines going full blast for 4 ½ hours on Friday at which 45 troop bags were created. In addition to those 45 bags, we had 24 bags brought to the outing that some of our ladies had prepared at home (Donna LaPorte, Velna Wells, Jean Orr, and Carol Harter). With the 15 additional bags that went home with some volunteers, we will be donating 86 troop bags to Operation Care Package. Thank you to our ladies who worked at the event on Friday: Mona Shanner, Carol Harter, Georgeann Lovett, Sharon Turner, Sue Mercer, Jenny Pasillas, LuAnne Lowe, Lydia Granger, Maria Johnson, Verona McCutchen, Jean Orr, Sue Mercer and Di Filler. Thank you to those of you who donated fabric, ziplock bags, cording, cord locks, and other supplies. A big thank you to those of you who donated money towards the shipping of the bags to Illinois. Some of the people who donated these items included Frances Surbrook, Margaret Skinner, Karen Blaine, and Herb Johnson II. Also, a big thank you to our Lazy Daze men that helped set up and carry all of the machines and supplies that were needed for this great cause. I know that I have forgotten many people who helped in this project, either the day of or behind the scene. My sincere apology. I have already had several women who have suggested we do this again next May and have given me some ideas which I will bring to the Women s Only group at a later day. Again, I can t thank you enough for your support for this great cause! The Pegster Painted Turtle Thank you, Lazy Dazers. Our Painted Turtle donation box collected $246.00! 8 Mickey and Minnie Washer Toss Tournament We had some exciting matches with Joe Fletcher and Don Sitts losing to Phil and Herb Johnson III. They went several rounds with neither team scoring any points. Each side tossing fives cancelling each other out. Herb III and Phil were the eventual winners of the Mickey side of the tournament. The girls did a respectful job with Eileen Peternouschek and Sue Mercer defeating Karen Blain and Sandi Bartel. However, the Minnie Mouses were no match for the Mickey Mouse Johnsons. 10 Adventures with our Vista First Timers, Don & Debbie Boyko Thought we would share a few photos from our travels. We towed our sailboat to attend a cruise along the Northern Gulf Coast in Florida. After the cruise, we dropped off the sailboat in Pensacola FL and headed to the GA coast. The one photo shows our Lazy Daze in front of the historic St Simons Island light house. Another is a view out the back window while taking a break and having lunch along the beach in Destin FL. One photo shows our boat anchored off a small island to spend the night along the intercoastal waterway. We re currently in Sarasota FL and will be heading back to San Diego next week. We ll hit the road again in July heading to Portland, then across the county to Michigan and a side trip to Niagara Falls before the long journey back to San Diego in September.
