1 The Caravaner Welcome Lake Perris Hosted by the Outbacks Happy New Year from Parker, Arizona! La Paz Caravan was hosted by the Firesiders this month. We had beautiful weather most of the caravan. Saturday the winds began to whip and the clouds looked ominous but never let loose. We thank Steve Tivy for keeping the weather perfect most of the week! The wind didn t stop us from all of the activities we had planned. We had 40 rigs attend La Paz. We had 1 first timer and that was Dan and Marty Watkins from Glendora. Dan has quite the knowledge when it comes to Lazy Daze and some history. We welcome you both to our club and hope we see you again soon! We also welcome back John and Diana Maruska from Yuma, Az as second timers!! We met them at Live Oak in December. There was a large group that went to dinner Thursday night for all you can eat Fish and Chips. The resturant didn t know what they had coming with over 35 Lazy Dazers coming for a meal! It was big and rowdy crowd! We want to thank Doris Wren, Bob Schmahl, Carol Harter, Herb Johnson2 along with Phil and Maria Johnson for donating all the door prizes for this month. We hope you enjoyed them for those of you lucky enough to win. We had a big crowd for Bingo and thanks to Ed Widmer for always doing a fine job as our Bingo caller! Our first timer Dan was a big Bingo winner too! Washer toss was a little challenging since the wind was not our friend on Saturday. The winners had to beat their opponents twice to come out on top and that s what they did! Congratulations to Peggy Zabel and Byron Shaner for the win! Second place was Herb Pyle and Herb Johnson3, one of them had to play as Herbalina but we will never tell which one it was. Friday night was movie night with The Road to Rio starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. Many thanks to the entertainment committee who set that up. Church of the Lazy Daze was held on Friday morning and drew a large crowd. Thanks to Jack Walker for always having some words to share! Thank you to Peggy Zabel our Chairman for a successful caravan this month. We look forward to seeing everyone again February at Lake Perris. The Firesiders Lazy Daze Caravaner 1
2 GOODWILL AMBASSADOR REPORT WE SALUTE YOU Host Tent Volunteers For January Outback, ALLEN MERCER #2854 suffered a mild stroke at the end of December. He is now doing physical therapy at home. Mona Shaner MonaL@sbcglobal.net Bill Arthur Betty Boschma Tom & Debbie Bowlings Bob Filler Terry Joe Phil & Maria Johnson Rich & Georgeann Lovett Verona McCutcheon La Paz Caravan - January I want to thank the women of our club for attending the Women s Only meeting at La Paz. We had about 22 strong come and share with us on the topic of family traditions. I brought up the topic of what kind of family traditions do you have that have been carried down from generation to generation and do you continue them today. We had lots of input from family recipes made each year to home made ornaments passed down to generations. Lydia Grainger talked about something her family made but we couldn t pronounce it or even spell it. You ll have to ask her about it if you missed her story. We had stories of award winning chili, tamales with the family and a Waldorf salad. It was a fun time and I think we all enjoyed going down memory lane. Thanks to everyone who came to join us. I ll host another meeting in May at Live Oak. I ll give you a hint the topic will be Mother s Day memories and gifts. Dave Nordstrom Claude & Carol Potts Rosie Reeder Roadrunners Sharon Turner Vern & Charlene Tutterrow Art & Ursula Vorbeck Jack & Jeannette Walker Shirly Winslow Connie Johnson 2 Lazy Daze Caravaner
3 Bingo Had another good round of Bingo at La Paz. Washer Toss Contest Fourteen teams were fielded for our initial tournament of the year. The weather was cool to start but warmed up to be comfortable as the tournament progressed. Steve Tivy was right on with his weather prediction and we did get a little breeze that stirred up some dust. We had Ed Widmer s son Stan and first timer Marty Watkins come out and compete. We played a double elimination tournament with team #4 Herb Johnson III and Herb Pyle winning the winners bracket. In the finals team #4 had to play team #5, Byron Shaner and Peggy Zabel, who were sent to the losers bracket by team #5. However Herb and Herb were unable to defeat Byron and Peggy, losing two straight games to them in the finals. Congratulations to Byron and Peggy for a tournament well played. Johnson family starts them young to play washer toss 1st - Byron Shaner & Peggy Zabel / 2nd - Herb Johnson & Herb Pyle Lazy Daze Caravaner 3
4 Dogs for Better Lives We received $12 in donations for Dogs for Better Lives formerly known as Dogs for the Deaf in our donation jar at La Paz caravan. They have a new name but the same compassion! Our club has been giving to this charity for many years with the funds received from collecting aluminum cans. We now have a donation jar near the Host tent at each caravan for you to put any spare change or paper money in. Every little bit helps. Did you know that 81% of your philanthropic dollar goes directly towards program costs. Dogs for Better lives is a national non profit award winning organization rescuing and professionally training Assistance Dogs since They maintain a lifelong commitment to all dogs they rescue or breed to the people they serve. If you want to learn more about this organization we support please visit their website at: Dogsforbetterlives.org So next time you see the jar feel free to know your donation is going to a very good cause. Thank you!! 4 Lazy Daze Caravaner
