2 Commodore s Corner The Mothership Summer weather was great for cruising and I hope you were all able to take advantage of it. Terry and I went to the San Juan s for the first time in several years and had a wonderful time. We crossed paths with several HHYC members which added to the fun. It would be great to hear our member s summer travel stories at the September meeting. I hope you can join us, September 12 th meeting Hales Ales again but this time be sure and sit at the tables set up for us in the foyer area (by the beer vats)! The Annual Crab Derby on Labor Day was once again a great success with hosts, Larry & Kelly Parrett and Paul & Liz Ellis. Crab, fun activities and great food ruled the event. We had a group dinner-dance at the local bar, H2O, which was very fun. We also enjoyed a hosted dinner with a variety of sausages and hosted breakfast with fabulous scrambled eggs and pancakes. The potluck breakfast and dinner provided by HHYC members gave us all great eating options. On the dock entertainment included Friendly Feud (similar to the TV show Family Feud ) with three person teams competing. This took a big effort to prepare the game boards and the questions which were quite entertaining. The game provided a little learning experience and lots of laughs, hosted by our master of ceremonies Larry Parrett, sprouting a convincing look with the sophisticated moustache. Crab was the focus of the weekend and most of the crabbers had good success catching them. This year s winner of the title Master Crabber went to Steve Kaimmer with the largest crab (over 7 ) and also the largest accumulated measurement for his limit of 5. Congratulations Steve! and we look forward to you hosting the event next year. The Great Crab Race was won by James Life. James crab was the first of over a dozen crabs to scramble off a table top where a dozen crabs were dumped. Congratulations James! Next event is Halloween. We have been forced to change this event as Argosy Cruises no longer hosts a Halloween cruise. In its place, Kelly Parrett has reserved rooms at the Clearwater Casino and will host a pre-function suite prior to a costume party and dancing. Please look at your for the Evite. 12 Rendezvous Check List EVITE Initial Evite: about a month before the rendezvous date, send Julie Life a high level summary announcing the rendezvous event and sign-up. Include instruction to call the marina and book your reserved HHYC slip at least 2 weeks prior. (contact information for Julie is located in the roster) Detailed Information: a week or so later send detailed information to Julie for Evite update. Please include: Dock Instructions: example: hosts will monitor channel 69 or call phone # XXX for dock assistance, please call 5-10 minutes before arrival Event Details: Summary of events, include any meal & beverage information for members to bring along with price of the rendezvous. (See tip sheet below for options below) HOSTS TIP SHEET (guidelines only) Meal Options: hosts have full control of meal options. Examples: cook 2 dinners, 1 breakfast, 1 potluck, or cook 1 dinner, 1 potluck dinner, 2 breakfasts, or add in restaurants Usually appetizers are provided by hosts. Libations: hosts have options, BYOB, or a signature drink and BYOB. Eye Openers & Happy hour mixers are supplied by hosts. Please include water, coffee, sugar and creamer. HHYC Supplies: HHYC has tables, coolers, canopies, banners, Keurig, coffee makers, chaffing dishes available if you are interested please contact Dane or Terry Fantz to get supplies Paper Products: plates, napkins, cups and silverware are supplied by hosts. Many times we have some supplies in storage so check current inventory (paper products, coffee, sugar ). if you are interested please contact Dane or Terry Fantz to get supplies Activities: host have option: may have games with prizes, or disclose local events (farmers market, parades, wine tasting ) or both. Fees for the event: hosts need to establish the cost of the event, try to factor in all the costs of your purchases as best you can, just estimate cost per person. Agenda: don t forget to print out the agendas to bring to the event, include times and instructions on what to bring.
