2 Commodore s Corner Hello all HHYC members, It is Halloween and of course wet and breezy but weekend in Poulsbo was great fun and mostly dry. If you have looked at the pictures, you may be wondering about some of them. Let s go thru the weekend. It started out with a gorgeous Friday (sunny and flat seas). Happy hour in the party barge was great followed by dinner at the Sons of Norway (main course was beef stew-yum). There was costume judging. Winning best male and female costumes went to Vic and Kari for little red riding hood and the wolf in grandma s night shirt. Karaoke and dancing followed (including the chair dance). The evening ended with a great fire side chat under the stars. Saturday morning rain was offset by a great potluck breakfast which included deconstructed eggs benedict, breakfast burritos, hash brown patties and sausages. After breakfast, some went shopping but most went over to the US Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport. Wow it was amazing. It had exhibits on ocean environment, torpedoes, undersea weapons, submarines, diving and salvage. Check out the pictures. By the time we left, the weather had cleared and we went back to the marina to find some college football (go Dawgs). Dinner in the party barge included pizza and salad. It was a great weekend and I personally wished we had taken our boat. Many thanks to Dennis and Brynn for hosting, Dane and Terry and Vic and Kari for helping. Finally, on our way home under fair skies (early Sunday morning a block from the Bainbridge ferry terminalnot a lot of traffic) there had been an accident-car vs. bicycle. The bicyclist was transported via helicopter to the hospital. It is a reminder that there is no ferry that must be made and please be aware of pedestrians and bicyclists when you are driving. I know there are at least two lives have been forever changed and not in a good way. My thoughts and prayers are with both. Please be careful on the roads and on your boats. Our next event is the Pay your Dues party on November 12 th at Queen City Yacht Club. Please come and join us. This is always a great event with good food, fun and friends. We will be donating teddy bears and crayons to Children s hospital. The last event is the Commodore s ball on January 21. It will be at the Hotel Decca again. If you are planning on staying please make your reservations and mention HHYC (room rate $99). I look forward to seeing you all. Please join us at Tutta Bella on November 8th for the board meeting. We may have a special speaker if the details can be worked out. In addition, I would like to get ideas for where you would like to see the club go in the future. So come join us for the meeting. Finally, please be safe out on the water and continue to enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest waters. May 7 July 3-4 Aug 6-7 Opening Day of Boating Season. Look for the group in Union Bay or at QCYC or SYC. Independence Day. Some raft up In Liberty Bay for Poulsbo fireworks on the 3rd. Others raft up in Andrews Bay or Lake Union for the fireworks on the 4th. Sea Fair on Lake Washington. You could spend the week taking in all of the festivities and the races.
