1 be a blast and potentially create huge awareness about our End Polio campaign. The idea is to Barb Wyllie ~ Editor Please From send The Governors submissions Chai to: Deadline: 15 th of the month Notes From the District Governor: October is Vocational service month - what services or programs do you have in place to highlight this avenue of service? Here are a few ideas: 1) Share your work with each other. We seem to forget that we have a great deal to offer fellow members. 2) Put together a basket of business cards and give to new members. 3) Make a book of business cards and pass out to each member of your club. 4) Give members the opportunity to talk about their field, perhaps during a member profile, or during happy dollar time. 5) Member advice - a club brainstorming session with a Rotarian who may be having business / vocational challenges. 6) Organize a "student of the month" program at your middle or high school. 7) Start a scholarship for high school seniors who are involved in community service. 8) Set up a resume writing workshop for graduating students or members of the community who are unemployed. 9) Partner with other organizations, such as Dress for Success, that help community members find new jobs. 10) Participate in a Job Fair as a speaker, recruiter or just volunteer to help. My point is, to have your "Rotary Moment" doesn't require a huge undertaking. You may find great satisfaction from doing something small. Visiting an interact club, RYLA session or Roteract meeting may open your eyes and hearts to something new and exciting. Speaking of new and exciting, have you heard about our Flash Mob on the Capital? This is going to Pg 1 "Celebrate Movement" and letting people know how the devastating Polio is to that very basic thing we all take for granted. October 5, we are meeting at the New York State Museum at 5:30. I need you to register so I have enough t-shirts. A BIG thanks goes out to Saratoga Hospital for donating the funds to cover our first 100 t-shirts. I also need to thank eba Dance Theater in for the choreography and organizing the event. You can register on the NEW 7190Events.com web site. Don't forget about RLI - Rotary Leadership Institute. This program has been revamped this year and promises to help every member to better understand the inner workings of Rotary and how we accomplish all the miracles we do on a daily basis. I think it is a very important piece of the Rotary pie. I will be attending the graduate sessions this year. Having attending the prior three sessions, I can honestly say that it has helped me to be better equipped for the job I am doing now. That's not to say you have to want to be a DG to attend, but I think it's a key component in getting more involved in your club and understand how service projects and grants work to help your club be "more". Courses offered include Membership Development, International Service, Creative Service, Problem Solving Workshops and much, much more. RLI takes place on Saturday, October 20 at Sienna College. Breakfast and Lunch are included. You can register online here: Our "jewel of the year event" is the Foundation Festival on November 8th at the Hall of Springs. Spirit of Peace is designed as an evening to celebrate all the wonderful things we do in the district with an International Flair. Our Olympic theme highlights the team work that is required to accomplish all we do. It's going to be a magical evening, highlighted by the presence of TRF Chairman and Past RI President Wilf Wilkinson. The evening will include celebrating individual members who have gone above and beyond continued on next page The Toolbox: Volume 104 October 2012 Rotary International District 7190 Pg 1
2 in their involvement in the foundation. You can register for the event online here: Rotarians making their $100 Sustaining Member donation by October 20th will be listed as Peacekeepers for the Festival. A Peacekeeper Reception will be held prior to the event that evening. A letter from Anne Cargile was postal mailed to all Rotarians in the district regarding the Honorary Committee. Those Rotarians signed up for TRF Direct will automatically be included. Contact Anne for additional information (annec@nycap.rr.com). There is a lot going on. When your club is planning events, please be sure to check the District calendar so we are not in conflict. I am trying to get to more club events, but when there are 2 or 3 on a single night, it's a stretch. Also - by double checking the calendar, you can ensure greater attendance at your event by your fellow Rotarians throughout the district. Thank you for all you do for Rotary!
