Did you personally and your club specifically achieve the goals you set? Do you feel that your efforts in your club events and projects made a difference to others in your community? Let s hope your answer was yes. Some of us may have had different roles and responsibilities this year in our Rotary lives. Mine was obviously very different and certainly changed my perspective of Rotary in general and our district and our clubs specifically. We have at least 41 other people that had different roles in their Rotary clubs and there were many more who have taken on different responsibilities in their clubs and the district. We have a great team and some new teammates. Let s make sure we make them welcome and keep them involved. We have so many good people who want to make a difference and do that by making their community a better place to live, work and play. We have a vibrant and growing district. Our district is growing, let s make it at the rate of an overall +1 for every club this year. We still have time to do it. We have a good developing Membership Team and our Public Relations team is growing and working hand-in-hand with membership. Make sure your club uses district resources to ensure your projects are known to the public and become even more effective through using these resources. In addition, look forward to a district Membership / Public Relations summit this fall. Also, it was very rewarding for our district to once again have a successful work day to start off the district conference in Lake Placid. We had about 50 workers from a number of our clubs and 2Pg. 1 District 7040 supplied a number of workers from the Lake Placid and Saranac Lake clubs. The Rotary International Director, Jennifer Jones and the District Governor, Claude Laliberte, from that area also joined the fun. We remodeled an Emergency Ambulance Center kitchen and painted at the Lake Placid Historical Museum, not to mention cleaning more than 700 glass negatives. Another one of our teams remodeled a kitchen and play room in the Youth Center in Saranac Lake. We put in a new log pole fence in a park and in a church yard. It is always amazing to me what Rotarians will do if you just ask. We also had a very well attended Service Day the weekend before the conference. At least 17 clubs participated in a number of activities to fight poverty. We cleaned up parks, built shelves in food pantries; we helped feed the homeless and contributed to food banks. What a fine way to spend a day of the weekend. Thank you. Finally, a number of you have wished me well this year and some have even said hope you have a good year. The jury is still out did I have a good year. Only you can answer that question. If you feel that you as a Rotarian had a good year and made your community a better place to live; then my answer is a resounding Yes. Whatever your answer, thank you for the privilege and honor to serve you as the District Governor. My life is changed forever. And one more fact; there is no doubt in my mind, you and your clubs that make up this District 7190, can never be thanked enough. You are truly A Gift To The World. 6 Where Do I Get A Paul Harris Fellow Medallion? District Conference Royalty When an individual reaches the Paul Harris Fellow status the Club President receives a PHF pin and a certificate from The Rotary Foundation. The medallion is no longer included so it has to be ordered separately from Typically a special code is included allowing a person to order the medallion because only PHFs may wear the medallion. If you have never been in the RI SHOP area you may be asked for your MY Rotary user name and password. Once you are in Shop, click on Foundation and the medallion is on the front page. Our International students (both incoming and outgoing) helped to pack these bags at the recent District Conference. 2Pg. 6 Photo by Ed Brown Photo by Ed Brown Glenville Rotarian Creates and Fosters Malawi Sports Program I wanted to briefly touch base to update you on the Banda Bola Sports Foundation activities. The scholastic soccer league now involves over 1,500 boys and girls and many more school districts are asking to be included. I continue to travel between New York and Malawi to supervise the program there and collect supplies here. I am happy that our partnership with Coaches Across Continents continues to grow. They will return for a second year this summer to run clinics, teach our mentors and launch their Ask for Choice Project, a program partnered with the Clinton Foundation that emphasizes women s rights. Most recently I was invited by the Jack Brewer Foundation to take part in the Sports for Development Summit at the United Nations. I was able to meet with heads of nonprofit organizations and country ambassadors, explain our programs and share ideas on how to use sports for human rights, gender equality and economic empowerment. Photo by Ed Brown but it does have its perks! 9/11 Artifact to be Displayed The Village Board on Monday voted to approve a plan to display an artifact from the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City. Mayor John Romano said the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has agreed to give Ballston Spa a steel rail between 6 and 10 feet long, that was in the PATH station underneath the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan in 200 The World Trade Center was destroyed in the attack by al-qaida. The village is responsible for transporting the artifact from the New York metropolitan area, and during the public comment portion of the meeting Frank Rossi Jr. volunteered the assistance of his family. Romano said later he is inclined to accept Rossi s offer. The mayor said volunteers would be involved in the process of placing the memorial, and that the initial idea for it came from Pete Champagne and the Rotary Club of Ballston Spa. Romano said the rail would be displayed downtown, but the exact site is yet to be determined. Photo by Ed Brown Local Organizations to Host 5K Triple Crown Running Event Gloversville, NY -- Three local groups are joining forces to raise money and promote their causes with the 3rd Annual 5K Triple Crown. 5K races will be held on three different days to coincide with the Triple Crown horse races resulting in one male and female grand champion. There will also be cash prizes and medals awarded and other prize drawings for those who enter all races in the 5K Triple Crown.
