October was another busy month for our Scotties Meridian Credit Union Volunteers. We were at the Grimsby Curling Club, on-site with Giant FM s $30,00 Giveaway at the Seaway Mall, off to CHCH headquarters for an in-studio interview, and at the Niagara Falls Health and Fitness Expo. The Scotties Trophy also made an appearance at the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame when Scotties champion Colleen Jones was inducted. The Scotties Trophy between the Grey Cup and Stanley Cup. Sandra Greenhalgh, promoting the Scotties and tabletop curling at the Grimsby Curling Club. Tim Moses, volunteer teaching curling to young fans at the Seaway Mall.

4 Rankin Construction Junior Stars Lorem Ipsum Dolor September 12, 2016 The November 30th deadline is approaching and we are still looking for junior curlers to be a part of the Rankin Construction Junior Stars program. Curlers aged 10 to 17 from the St. Catharines and the Niagara Region interested in becoming an honorary member of one of the teams competing in the championship have the opportunity to receive: A commemorative Rankin Construction Junior Stars jacket Tickets to a draw for themselves and their parents or guardians, where they will meet their team, march in the pre-game ceremony, have a tour of the TSN production truck and watch championship curling and have an official photo taken with the team A 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Official Event Pin and Souvenir Program In 100 words or less Why you would like to be an Honorary Team member with one of the teams competing for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts championship? or if you prefer a more graphic approach, shoot a short video, showing your interest in curling and meeting a team. 5 Getting to know your Vice Chair of Hosting Daniel Frans Lorem Ipsum Dolor September 12, 2016 Did you know that Vice-Chair Daniel Frans writes a blog? It is called Barley Nectar and can be found at This blog features Daniels life his family, his curling, and his love for brewing. Make sure to give it a read. Here is an excerpt of one of pieces called Farewell Pro Curling which explains his curling career. The Best of The Best In 1993 my brother Joe and I won two of the biggest junior curling events in the province of Ontario. The first was the Toronto Curling Association Bonspiel or TCA for short, and the second was the more prestigious Ontario Junior Men s Curling Championships. Both made a lasting impression in my mind, but the latter was unique. The prize for winning the TCA was a 10 day all-expenses paid trip to Switzerland chaperoned by the pipe smoking Roy Weigand and his Dack s Curling Shoe connection (these were THE shoes to own). The season had started rather abruptly. We had just moved into town, and we were still scrambling to find prospective players to start the curling season in the Niagara area. In those days grass roots curling actually meant that the four players could be found living in the same town. The landscape has changed. 4
