How cool is that?? The Mosaic Company The Mosaic Company is the world s largest supplier of potash and phosphate. Their mission is to help the world grow the food it needs. In Saskatchewan, Mosaic produces potash at three mines Belle Plaine, Colonsay and Esterhazy. Their business unit head office is located in downtown Regina. The company is currently building the province s first new underground mine in almost 50 years in Esterhazy. The new K3 mine reached the potash level in February 2017 and is on target for completion by Mosaic is committed to being a good corporate citizen. They ve set rigorous sustainability goals aimed at reducing energy, water and greenhouse gas emissions by 10% per product ton by In 2016, they invested $9 million into the Saskatchewan community. 3

4 THE LASTING EFFECTS OF CURLING FOR THE COMMUNITY Regina s history with the sport of curling is over 100 years strong and the legendary Richardson s Brier and World Championships are nearing their 60 th anniversary. Regina also boasts an impressive history of hosting National and International curling events with great fanfare, warm hospitality, exceptional competition and impressive community legacies. Since the early 80s, I have had the honour and privilege to be part of provincial, national and international curling events hosted in Regina, and without a doubt every one has resulted in a positive legacy for the economy, the City and Province and the curling community. A curling event ensures that athletes, officials and fans travel to our great City to enjoy our hospitality, our restaurants, our shops and our hotels. It is economically beneficial for all, and the reason sponsors and the Regina Hotel Association support curling events. The City and Province benefit from the wonderful positive exposure these types of events portray and that is thanks to the hard work, warm hearts and smiling faces of all our volunteers. As volunteers we work hard, have fun and we are the face of our City and Province to the world thank you for the great job you have done for decades and will do into the future. How major curling events are managed has changed and evolved several times since the 1980s, as have most business practices. Curling Canada is responsible for many events annually and is continually striving to make the experience positive for all involved. I can assure all of you that regardless of the partner or the business/event model used, there has always been a positive economic benefit for our Curling Clubs, our Youth Curling Programs and CurlSask. There is no question, our sport benefits financially from hosting national and international events. The 50/50 profits, always impressive, are dedicated to Youth Curling programs. The overall financial contributions are split amongst CurlSask, Curl Regina and the three Curling Clubs and have been significant, a win, win, win. Most of all the Legacy Legend comes from within, the pride of working as a team to host athletes and fans from all over the world and the wonderful memories we hold in our hearts forever.
