2 EXTRA PICTURES FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT! Riho sends greetings from Washington DC where Monday she visited the White House, President Obama was in South Africa, she forgot to call ahead to make an appointment. Visiting Lincoln Monument was moving experience. The WWII Memorial was tearful when she thought of all the soldiers, women and children who died. She's happy Japan and America are now allies. Bruce Keith, PP Quon Louey is trying to decide if the yellow Ronald McDonald pants would look good with a blue shirt to wear at the first Rotary Meeting of All those in favor should e mail him to let him know so he can plan. Or is Ronald McDonald trying to think what Quon is thinking? Since he is an Asian Geek his words not mine, it may be difficult for a (probably) Irish guy with the name McDonald, to get into his brain. He would have to move all those computer terms to one side. It s hard for Quon to follow directions even to BERCers houses and apparently has difficulty with night driving too and counting. Brilliant with computers, but lame in other areas. Ronald may be a great mime, but a lousy cook...which is why hey dress him up and send him around. Don t know if Quon can cook or not. Or they both liked the Ronald McDonald house and their meeting there. You decide.
3 Put this on your calendars so reservations can be made for a group trip! Lisbon, Portugal There are few more immediately likeable European capitals than LISBON (Lisboa). A lively place, it remains in some ways curiously provincial, rooted as much in the 1920s as the 2000s. Wooden trams clank up outrageous gradients, past mosaic pavements, Art Nouveau cafés and the medieval quarter of... Alfama, which hangs below the city's São Jorge castle. The city invested heavily for Expo 98 and the 2004 European Football Championships, reclaiming rundown docks and improving communication links, and today it combines an easy-going, human pace and scale, with a vibrant, cosmopolitan identity. The city has a huge amount of historic interest. The Great Earthquake of 1755 (followed by a tidal wave and fire) destroyed most of the grandest buildings, but frantic reconstruction led to many impressive new palaces and churches, as well as the street grid pattern spanning the seven hills of Lisbon. Several buildings from Portugal's golden age survived the quake notably the Castelo de São Jorge and the Monastery of Jerónimos at Belém. Contemporary sights include the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, with its superb collations of ancient and modern art. Pictures courtesy of Jose Pererya Opening Ceremonies the USA Flag is about in the middle. You feel very special to be at the International Rotary Convention!

"The human animal differs from others of the animal kingdom in that it is normally progressive. The only thing that can hold the advance of the human animal long in check is precedent." "While our joy at "Comely Bank" has consistently overflowed, we have also had our share of sorrows. For instance: the city fathers established arc lights on Longwood Drive. No longer need God pin the curtains of night back with his stars; no longer need the commuters of our community grope their way back through the darkness, to the warmth and good cheer of their firesides. The city fathers take card of all such matters. Night has, in fact, been banished forever." "I would like to think that the pioneering days of Rotary have only just begun. There are just as many new things to be done as there ever were. Kaleidoscopic changes are taking place, many of them without our will. Even to hang on to the fringe of this fast-changing world is about all most of us can do. Rotary simply must continue to pioneer or be left in the rear of progress." PAGE 4 The College of Rotary Knowledge "Many Rotary clubs follow the colorful traditions of exchanging small banners, flags, or pennants. Rotarians traveling to distant locations often take banners to exchange at make-up meetings as a token of friendship. Many clubs use the decorative banners they have received for attractive displays at club meetings and district events. The R.I. Board recognized the growing popularity of the banner exchange in 1959 and encouraged participating clubs to ensure that the design of their banners is distinctive and expressive of the club's community and country. It is recommended that banners include pictures, slogans, or designs portraying the territorial area of the club. The Board was also aware of the financial burden such exchanges may impose on some clubs, especially in popular locales where many visitors make up and request to exchange banners. In all instances, clubs are cautioned to exercise discretion and moderation in the exchange of banners so that the financial obligations do not interfere with the basis service activities of the club. Exchanging club banners is a very pleasant custom, especially when a creative and artistic banner tells an interesting story of community pride. The exchange of banners serves as a tangible symbol of our international fellowship." *** From "The ABCs of Rotary" *** By PRIP 1992/93 Cliff Dochterman Page 48 Amanda Frank Did you know that for years Cy Wade, founding member, he supplied who got what assignments? Now Dan Giordano, PP has taken on the assignment. Looking for Sponsors for the Roto Lounge Your business could do some marketing activities and socialize with fellow Rotarians. See Bill Gresco to set up a week for your sponsorship or e mail at: WILLIAM.GRESCO@ SBCGLOBAL.NET DO BUSINESS WITH A Judge Susan Gill did her best to hear Randall s arguments and even had the Court Reporter repeat her testimony several times throughout the trial. It seems that after Schwartz went to Europe she hasn t returned entirely as her uniform is from England. Above barefooted Tarpley cried on and on about the demeaning words that Randall used during the year. Heidi Burch whined about the bike that Randall stole on Silent Auction 2 years ago let it rest and she only has a skateboard thing...lucky she s got that she could be walkin barefoot with Tarpley. Christy Swatzell did a poor job of sounding like a person from Thailand, but made her puppets sound like they were from Japan. I think her complaint may have had to do with going crazy during Randall s year! Bill Lewis, bailiff, was helping Randall drink up what we re not sure.
