1 LAKE CENTRAL SCHOOL CORPORATION SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MONDAY, MAY 3, 2010 Submitted for Approval May 17, 2010 A meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Lake Central School Corporation was held in the Lake Central High School LGI Room, St. John, IN on Monday, May 3, The meeting began at 7:30 p.m. Board Members Present George Baranowski, President Howard Marshall, Vice-President Don Bacso, Secretary John DeVries, Member Valentina Lozanoski, Member Administration Present Gerald Chabot, Superintendent Larry Veracco, Assistant Superintendent Tom Dykiel, Director of Business Services Al Gandolfi, Director of Secondary Education Mark Kellogg, Director of Primary Education *Please note that all motions were carried 5-0 unless otherwise indicated. SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MINUTES MAY 3, 2010 I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Board President, George Baranowski. II. Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag Pledge of Allegiance led by George Baranowski. III. Agenda: Approval, Deletions, Additions - Dr. Chabot Dr. Chabot identifies additional pieces for the Agenda: we have a revised Personnel Board Packet. Dr. DeVries moves for approval. Don Bacso seconds the motion. Motion carries. IV. Correspondence Mr. Bacso states that there is no correspondence. V. Official School Board of Business Topics: Consent Agenda - Dr. Chabot Howard Marshall moves for approval. John DeVries seconds the motion. Motion carries. A. Official School Board Business Topics Regular Agenda A. Superintendent Dr. Gerald Chabot 1. Board Recognitions: Bella Webb Award, Jackie Ruiz, presented by Al Gandolfi: Mrs. Jackie Ruiz, Science teacher at Lake Central High School is the recipient of the Bella Webb Award for Environmental Education. Mrs. Ruiz was honored at the Teacher Appreciation/Earth Day Dinner on April 22, ISTA Hoosier Educator of the Year, Bob Gustas, presented by Scott Graber, Principal: Mr. Gustas was selected as the Indiana State Teachers Association s 2010 Hoosier Educator of the Year, and was honored at the Spring Page 1 of 5
2 Representative Assembly in Indianapolis on April 24, Special Olympics (24), presented by Diane Parker, Special Olympics Supervisor: Special Olympians awarded with medals and certificates were: Cailin Riordon Jason Hero Joe Soltis Derrick Sanchez Dominick Daniele Erika Hernandez Ashley Dowling Alec Bisone Courtney Semethy Nathan Zolp Bryan Baker Kyle Kujawa Paul Daniele Jacob Kiefor Matthew Protsman Bill McInturff Lee Rose Joy Wozniak Eshan Raja Joey Elton George Bissias Michele Gergets Trey Wardian Marrianna Whaley Coaches: Craig Lorek, Pam Beecher, Nicole Carleton, Melissa Hausser St. John VFW Patriot s Pen Essay Contest Winner, Teigen Breshock, Clark MS, presented by Scott Graber, Principal: Patriot s Pen, a youth-essay writing contest, is a nationwide competition that gives students in grades 6, 7 and 8 the opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy. Annually, more than 115,000 students participate in the contest. Teigen received a $300 check from the VFW and her essay was sent to the State for a competition that will be held later this school year. Clark MS 7 th Grade Girls Basketball Team (12), presented by Scott Graber, Principal: Clark s 7 th grade girls basketball team had an undefeated season (23-0) and won the Willowcreek Tournament, Grimmer B Tournament, LMSAC regular season and LMSAC Tournament. Donations Lake Central High School s Interact Club has received a $1,000 donation from the Schererville Rotary for a scholarship. Lake Central High School raised $534 for the Riley s Childrens Hospital through their prom fundraiser. Administration recommends accepting the donations received and given as indicated above. John DeVries moves to accept all donations received and given. Val Lozanoski seconds the motion. Motion carries. VII. Board and Public Comments and Consideration of Future Agenda Items Val Lozanoski comments that she hopes to see a good turnout for the Wednesday, May 5, 2010 Special Board Meeting. Don Bacso comments that he too hopes to see a good attendance for the Special Board Meeting. VIII. Board Calendar of Future Activities Dr. Chabot IX.
