1 North West Central School Thursday Note October 19, Principal s Message Congratulations to the Junior Girls Volleyball team on winning conferences at Rosetown late last night. Good luck at districts girls! On another volleyball note, NWCS will be hosting 1A Northern Conferences, playoffs on November 4. Come out and support your Wildcats. On a football note, congats to the football team for beating Kerrobert last Friday 38 to 14, We play Kerrobert for first and second place in Conference 2 on Saturday at 1:00pm. We will have a full booth, so come for lunch, enjoy the game and purchase some NWCS stickers. As October winds down, we are preparing to send out report cards and meet with parents for interviews on November 8 & 9 from 4:00 to 7:00. 3 TTYL Talking To Youth Live To promote and encourage mental wellness With Grade 8 students. On Thursday November 16, 2017, the Grade 8 students from Rosetown, Plenty and Biggar schools will participate in the TTYL Program in Rosetown. The students will be split into 5 groups, rotating through 5 game-format sessions. The topics covered in these sessions will be: 1) Mental health, 2) Addictions, 3) Impairment, 4) Choices & consequences, 5) Practical ways to maintain mental wellness To complete the day, the students will have an opportunity to hear from a guest speaker that has journeyed through either a mental illness, addiction or both. Thanks to the Heartland Health Region, lunch will be provided to the students. If you are interested in joining us for the day, please contact the school or Liza Dahl, Sun West Addictions Educator at Its National Teen Driver Safety Week! SGI is hosting a social media contest. All the teens need to do is like, share and tag 2 friends on one of SGI's posts and they're entered! We will be using: Facebook Instagram - sgiphotos Twitter They are allowed to enter once for each post SGI puts out. For example, SGI puts out 5 Facebook posts, they can enter on all 5 posts. If SGI posts daily on Twitter, they can enter on each new post every day. SGI will be giving away 10, $250 VISA gift cards. Great way to spread the word on safe driving and help a few teens make a quick buck! Contest ends midnight this Saturday, October 21st. 4 Speech and Language Parent Sessions This year the speech-language pathologist, Cinthia Hill-Bird, will be offering appointment times to go over your child's speech sound goals and demonstrate strategies of how you, as parents, can work on these goals at home. Students who work on their speech sounds at home and at school make more progress and miss less class time to participate in articulation therapy. Though these meetings will mainly focus on articulation therapy parents of younger students (K to 3) with language or phonological awareness goals are welcome as well. These meetings are available to all North West Central students who are on the speech and language caseload. These sessions will be offered on Monday October 30th, 2017 from 9AM to 3:30 PM. Royal Canadian Legion Plenty Branch presents: Remembrance Day Service 2017 November am Plenty United Church School students present their Legion Contest entries and we pay tribute to the fallen. We regularly post updates on school events, as well as fun pictures of school spirit. Make sure to follow the account to stay up to School Food Drive Once again our school will be conducting a food drive in partnership with FCC. We will be donating the food that we collect to the Kindersley Food Bank. Please have non-perishable food items ready for pick-0up on October 31 st. Collection teams will be in both Plenty and Dodsland. NWCS Passive Bottle Drive at Kindersley & Rosetown Sarcan We have set up a passive bottle drive at the Kindersley and Rosetown SARCAN. If you are taking your clean and cap-less recycling to either town please consider donating to the NWCS SLC. You just have to mention to the staff and they will make sure that our school receives your donation. We are raising money for a new mascot. 4
