2 STORM WARNING ISSUED right here at Goodrich Field in Anoka! But have no fear the only Storm we have planned for the day is the Anoka Marching Tornadoes 2014 Field Show, which we are pleased to perform in exhibition for you today. Most importantly, we welcome all family members, fans, and visiting bands to our Music in Motion Field Competition! While you will see some awesome teamwork on the field today as each band performs and works as a unit it s equally amazing to think of each very special individual who makes up the group. Each and every band member performing here today is a unique student who has sacrificed precious time, sleep and energy.may have overcome significant challenge and most definitely worked incredibly hard, just to be here today, performing as one with their band. And with all that time invested, you probably know already that many of the performers closest friendships and favorite memories have been made in marching band. The teamwork and bonding and laughs and tears that are shared during band camp, endless rehearsals and travelling to and from shows and competitions it s far more than just an activity, it s a shared experience that will last them a lifetime. But you may not know that year after year, studies show that music students have been proven to do better on college entrance exams, are more likely to avoid substance abuse, tend to earn more money in their careers, are more likely to have advanced reasoning skills, and tend to be more dedicated in all areas of their life. Whoa what an amazing list! Read that again isn t that exactly what we d want for our students? So while you enjoy the teamwork and unified performances you will see presented today, we want to thank YOU for being here as a fan, friend, family member, teacher or staff member who recognizes and supports the special, unique, AMAZING individuals that make up each band. You are making an investment in their lives that really counts. On behalf of the Anoka Marching Tornado performers, staff and Band Parent Association, we are so pleased to have you as our guest today. Now grab a snack from the concession stand, sit back, relax and enjoy the program! Sue Woodard President, Anoka Band Parent Association Proud Parent of Emily Woodard, Drum Major Our Marching Tornadoes have a had very strong start this year and are continuing to dazzle the crowds they are performing for each time. The dedication of our students and Director has been amazing to watch and make us very proud at Anoka High School. We have high expectations again this year for our Anoka Marching Band and know that we will attain high levels again this year. The energy is very positive, and our students are embracing this new year with refreshed energy and focus. It is a team effort every year with our students, Director, parents, volunteers and our Marching Band boosters to launch such a successful program. I would like to send a hearty thank you to our Tornado Marching Band Booster program and parents for all of your support for our students and our Marching Band Program. Your countless hours of dedication and volunteering of your time is very appreciated! Good luck to our Marching Band and Directors as you begin another successful season. Go Marching Tornadoes! 25 It is believed that Anoka was the first city in the United States to put on a Halloween celebration. In early 1920, Anoka merchants and other interested citizens joined together in a move to stop Halloween pranks. The idea was to have a big Halloween party for all the children with free candy and lots of entertainment. In October of 1920, Anoka had its first Halloween celebration. The celebration has been held every year since, with the exception of two years during WWII. Anoka considers itself to be the "Halloween Capital of the World" and now has many events during October including football games, costume contests, block parties, Grey Ghost 5k run, and two parades.
