They were; Bob Palermo has been flying for 12 years at Billerica. Fixed wing, 3D. Treasurers Report Balance Sheet - Balance was $2, as of 5/16/05. Income: $385 from dues, $102 from raffles for a total income of $487. Disbursements: $12 in coffee, $257 in raffle prizes, $7 in printing, $707 in field cutting, $142 for Fun Fly food and drinks, $ in prizes. Solo certificates $5 for a balance of $1560 as of 8/21/05. Meeting Minutes Meeting Minutes from the last meeting were read by Mel. Field Report Jack Stanley reported the field is ok. Hole needs to be filled in - near the top of the upper runway. Juhan pointed out that the field has been in fantastic shape for the past few years. Thank you Jack for mowing and Gil for maintaining the mower. It is a luxury to have it so kept. Membership Report John Hatfield said we are at 93 members. At this time last year we were at are juniors and 14 are seniors. 74 members renewed. New News Mel cautioned that if you see someone being trained on a buddy box, you may want to keep your distance from the runway and give them room. Jeff mentioned that we had a good and successful joint auction last year. He has reserved the Legion Hall for Sunday, Jan 29, 2006, between the Conference Championship and the Super Bowl. It s not too soon to get people from both Clubs for the Auction Committee. Jeff Ward mentioned the upcoming Aviation Festival in Nashua. Lots of static exhibits, air shows. Kids can fly for free. They also have talks on aviation at nearby Daniel Webster College. District1.com is having a Fun Fly this weekend. $10/person Open flying, 3 days, 3 nights at Gardner. Solo certificates were awarded to: Paul DiFeo Greg Jr. Greg Sr. Eyal Bartfeld Claudio Vic Naimo Congratulations to all! Mitch Buckley gave us a blow-byblow of his 12 hr trip to Troy, Ohio all well as his flying at the Nationals (NATS). His primary aircraft bought the farm after doing a knife edge 1 too low, cart wheeling across the runway to its demise. Sunday s was the unknown portion of the flight. He came in 7th by 0.7 points. He then played a CD of some of the flights including his. The flights were to music! Pilots would time their maneuvers to the beat. 3 2 Burlington RC Flyers Newsletter The Presidents Letter Multi-dollar, non-profit corporations such as the Burlington RC Flyers, require strict fiscal and organizational governance. Our Chief Field Operating Officer (CFOO), Jack Stanley, has elevated our flying ecosystem to new high levels. His effort to dramatically improve weekly flight conditions is a national example of a business best practice. Another brilliant paradigm of instituting best-of-breed customer service tactics is our new pilot training program. Chief Training Officer (CTO) Victor Samsonov, has single-handedly taken command of instructing and sharpening the minds and reflexes of beginner pilots. His dedication and coaching style have created a positive atmosphere of learning: the entire club has greatly benefited from Victor s efforts. Because of recent strains in the US economy, club attrition rates, and global decreases in gasoline production, our HR department (Robert Johnson, John Hatfield, and technical recruiter David Palermo) has launched an intensive, Middlesex county-wide, executive search for President and other board positions. Pedigree counts, however diamonds in the rough are welcome to apply. We need you to participate in the BRCF road map - in evolving this dynamic organization to harness the membership marketplace of Massachusetts-based RC pilots. On November 8, 2005, the club body will elect a new board. It is our duty as BRCF brethren to participate and shape our future work program. 4 November Secretary s Report Continued from page 1 and he made a bunch of friends. A guy gave him a servo - turned out to be the only one that survived his cartwheel. Three aircraft crashed. There were 17 competitors in all. Show N Tell Jeff Ward showed off a device for larger planes with cowls, from World Model Co., plastic, color coded. With these you can capture overflow fuel. Stefan Cohen Showed off his Bad Boy profile with carbon fiber integrated throughout it! Comes with removable wing held down by nylon bolts. Carbon fiber push rods with great strength and only 5 minutes to make! Weighs in at 4.5 lbs with a Webra 50 and 100 square inches of wing. The only thing he doesn t like is the aluminum landing gear but it bent into place nicely. John Hatfield demo d his crude airplane after what we have seen here. It s a foamie, huge wing, 2.5 lbs,.15 engine, slow survival combat class. Apparently it is a very popular plane. It s a flying wing essentially. Has a 2 oz fuel tank that goes for about 10 minutes. Made with foam and coroplast. It s very survivable. $50 for the kit. 2 degree washout on the wing. By J. K. Aerotech. Stefan Cohen Pitts 28 electric biplane from Accel Hobby with Razor 350 brushless motor with 1320 cells. 371 cheap servos for $12. Will come out weighing 16 oz. Nice plane but the components are cheap. 5 hours so far with thin CA. Mel Suarez brought his Miniature Aircraft X-Cell Spectra-G gasser with a 5 rotor. He will be using it for aerial services via a new endeavor called AirBot Services. See com for details. He s looking for help with assembly and maintenance as well as PhotoShop and the like. Raffle Claudio - took home a Tipsy electric (and then won another 4 times!) Dick Meyer took 4 bottles of CA. Stefan Cohen nabbed some glow plugs. Al Prudhomme picked the electric fuel pump Jeff Ward got some glow plugs. Paul DiFeo finally won 2 glow plugs John Hatfield snatched the Epoxy 30. Fun Flys and Fly Ins are at the field, usually beginning around 9 am. Fly in s are casual - non competitive flying. Fun Flys will have competitions and prizes. Land, my boys, it s all about land Out and About with Al Prudhomme, jr. Any one of us driving around the area knows one thing for sure: new construction is going on (in one form or another) all around us. It seems possible to put a new building on any patch of land, and in some cases, down with the older, smaller house and up with the new trophy home. Boom, a new manor is born on the spot. In central Massachusetts recently, a grandfather was walking with his grandson along a wooded path when they were attacked by a fox. By quick action, the grandfather was able to save his grandson from injury. It was a good outcome to a possible tragedy. After reading this, how many of us thought about urban sprawl? Every day more and more subdivisions are being built. All this building has taken away, as an example, the fox s natural habitat. His den and his familiar territory are now gone, and a yard, swing set or deck has taken its place. A fox, like man, is territorial and gets confused and challenged when the familiar is no longer familiar. Think about that for a moment. The Burlington RC Flyers club is most fortunate in that we have, so close by, a great flying site. Yes, even foxes and small herds of deer are free to roam some mighty fine fields and woods around our area. Let s hope that it continues to be so... for the foreseeable future.
