Freshmen Kathleen Morrow and Gabe Prochko competed in the 800 (shown in photo at right with Coach Cliff). Travis Prochko earned 2nd in the 400. Kathleen earned 2nd place in the 800. Gabe Prochko earned 2nd in the 800 but owing to technicalities did not receive the medal. 5 Crusader Baseball 1 st Annual Baseball Skills Clinic Crusaders Baseball Field Come out and learn the basic skills of baseball: throwing, fielding, and hitting. June 5 th : Grades 3 rd -5 th June 6 th: Grades 6 th -8 th The camp will run from 9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m, with lunch from 12:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m. At the end of each day there will be a live game amongst players or a homerun derby contest. $50 per camper

6 MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Science News from Mr. Chude Monday, August 21 st of 2017 will be a very important date: for the first time in 99 years, an enormous area of the United States will experience a total solar eclipse! Millions of people from Oregon to South Carolina will have their very first total eclipse experience. Total darkness will last for about ninety seconds in most areas, and up to 160 seconds in some states. Go to to find the path of darkness for specific states and cities. Unfortunately, San Antonio will be outside the path of total darkness. However, we will begin to experience noticeable darkening around noon, and by 1:09 pm the sun will be 62% covered by the moon. The Atonement Academy will be in session before August 21 st, and I am sure that most teachers will plan to have some outdoor viewing with their classes after 12:00 that day. Please note that looking directly at the sun, even when being 62% blocked, IS NOT SAFE and can result in permanent retina damage. Normal sunglasses, even very expensive ones, are also not rated for looking directly at the sun. Go to for a NASA article on eclipse safety guidelines, along with an approved list of eclipse glasses manufacturers. Naturally, you may expect our teachers to brief their classes and prepare them for eclipse safety beforehand. If you feel tempted to take a three-day weekend with your family and travel up to the area of total darkness, please inform the school office in advance. Most hotels along the route have already been fully booked for that weekend, so you may have to plan to stay with any friends or family who live near the area. The good news is that if you cannot make it to this eclipse event, you only have a (relatively) short wait until another, even more spectacular one: on Monday, April 8 of 2024, San Antonio will be in the bulls-eye of another total eclipse! This one will be spectacular, clocking in at over three minutes in duration. Mark your 2024 calendars now!
