Acrobatic Gymnastics The level 4 and 5 acrobats have completed their competition season for the year. It was a successful season with many of the acrobats competing well at both NSW and ACT competitions. For the level fours, they will now begin to season anew focusing on basics and looking at expanding their repertoire of skills for next July. For the level 5s they had to hit the ground running as they work toward competition readiness for level 6 starting in February next year. 2 ACT State Champions for 2016 L4 Women's Pair - Tiahna Larkham and Seija Gravatt; L4 Women's Group - Emersen Canton, Monique Jeacocke, and Alyse Canton; L5 Women's Pair - Yuki Rundell and Belinda Major; L5 Women's Group - Kate Batten, Melissa Renard, and Rachel Moseley The development squad went to their first competition in September of this year, and are now polishing their skills to get ready for NSW trails beginning at the end of October. ACT State Champions for 2016 L1 Women's Pair - Erin Kormany (as a top to another gymnast); L2 Women's Pair - Sophia Lovegrove and Jemielle Constable-Cleary L3 Women's Pair - Brgid Kormany and Serena McFadyen Acro is always looking for budding competitive gymnasts. If your child is interested in trying out for development squad or the national squad, please speak with Quintin. Trampoline WVGC runs both recreational and national trampolining classes. Our recreational classes focus on fun, friendship and learning new skills. Our recreational trampolinists learn how to jump, sault and twist safely and progress at their own pace. Our development and national trampolining classes are all about complex skill acquisition, perfecting routines and competing in competitions. Trampoline had a busy Term 3 with both our recreational and national level trampolinists representing WVGC in competitions. Our recreational trampolinists attended a Trampolining Awards Day where they showed off their routines and progressed to the next level. Our national level trampolinists represented WVGC at the National Clubs Carnival in Bendigo, Victoria. They all did spectacularly well and Ben Brown brought home a silver medal after finishing second in Level 6 Men s Double Mini Trampoline. Term 4 is looking to be just as busy for trampolining with recreational classes staring to fill up and new trampolinists beginning in both the newly created Trampoline Development Squad and the Trampoline National Squad. WVGC trampolining classes are held at the Tuggeranong Archery Club Multi-Sport Facility, Soward Way in Tuggeranong. We currently have vacancies across all classes and we are always happy to welcome new trampolinists to our classes. We accept all levels from the absolute beginner to those who are already confident on a trampoline and are looking to improve their skills. Please contact the Office for more information and/or to enrol in a class. 4 4 KinderGym We put out fires, won Gold medals, became entomologists, joined the circus and fought dragons in Term 3 of Kindergym. We learnt our foundation shapes, crossed the midline and worked on our sense of direction. There is never a moment to be bored when you are under aged 5 and under in the gym. The focus for Term 4 will be the Vestibular System. The vestibular system has to do with balance and movement and is located in the inner ear. A healthy vestibular system allows us to maintain our balance and to experience gravitational security: confidence that we can maintain a position without falling. The vestibular system allows us to move smoothly and efficiently. It also works right alongside all of our other sensory systems, helping us use our eyes effectively and process sounds in our environment. Overall, vestibular processing helps us feel confident moving and interacting with our surroundings. Be prepared to be helping you little ones with swinging, jumping, spinning and turning them upside down throughout the term. The dominant Movement Patterns we will be focusing on will be SPRING, LANDINGS and SWING. The themes for term 4 are: Weeks 1 & 2: PIRATES Weeks 3 & 4: CITY & COUNTRY Weeks 5 & 6: PASSPORT AROUND THE WORLD Weeks 7 & 8: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Weeks 8 & 10: CHRISTMAS Birthday Parties at WVGC are awesome! Groove and Move Our parties cater for everyone, from inexperienced to experienced athletes, from early childhood to teenagers. If you want a gymnastics party, Woden Valley has you covered. Have mixed ages within the same party? No problem! We are able to tailor the activities for each age group to create a fun and developmentally appropriate experience for all of your guests. We have an awesome team of qualified and enthusiastic coaches who will keep the Birthday Child and their guests entertained. While the children are being thoroughly exhausted the parents can set up the food and relax. You supply the cake and the food. We supply the venue, kitchen and eating area, invitations and entertainment. We also clean up after you have finished. For more information and bookings contact our friendly office staff on After our busy preparations leading up to the Gym 4 Life Challenge in July, our Groove and Move members were happy to get back to learning new skills and getting fit at their own individual pace in Term 3. We are having fun learning new juggling techniques, trying new circuit activities and meeting new members. New members are welcome anytime. If you would like to join our classes, which cater to all abilities and ages above 50years, then come and have a go for a no obligation free lesson. We work on core balance, coordination, gross and fine motor activities and have a lot of laughs and create new friendships. EnableGym an inclusive Program Our EnableGym program is designed with the individual needs of our participants in mind. We have many participants with various abilities and needs who suit the format of our private class enable gym program through to small group sessions and then in to our in afternoon classes with some extra support. Demand for our services is increasing and we have been training our coaches to meet the need. Currently we hold classes every week day for the awesome gymnasts in the program. If you have a child with special needs that you think would benefit from participating in our Gymnastics programs, please contact the office for more information.
Performance Team 5 During the term we held a come and try Open Night. We had lots of enthusiastic people come and have a go. Both the Junior and Senior Performance team are combining this term to take a large group performance to an event in Gosford in November. The Performance Team performing at the ACT GfA Awards Day The junior performance team performed at the ACT Gymnastics for All Awards Day in Term 3. They enjoyed showing off their skills in front an enthusiastic crowd. No matter how basic or advanced your gymnastics skills are, you are welcome to join the performance team. The fees for the classes are at a hugely reduced rate as the coaches donate their time. Participants are also required to assist with fundraising BBQ s throughout the term. Junior Display Team: Ages 7 to 12yrs (must also participate in a gymsport.) Senior Display Team: Ages 13 to 113yrs (no gymnastics experience needed, just enthusiasm.) For more information please contact the office. Our Website At the end of last Gymnastics Australia changed the host of Club websites around Australia. The host is based in the USA and is apparently reasonably well known as a host for sporting organisations. Unfortunately for us we do not have anyone who enough knowledge to be able to manage it. This is the reason that our web page is not up-to-date and why it does not tell you or anyone looking at it about what is currently happening in the Club. We still really do need to find someone who can help us out. If you know anything about using Sports Vault, we would really like your assistance, please! If you cannot help with Sports Vault perhaps you are familiar with another host that is easy to use and which you would be able to set-up for us. We need something that we can learn to use so that we can easily keep our page up-to-date.
Men s Artistic Gymnastics 6 The MAG National Level 1-5 boys have now finished their competition season. The gymnasts competed in three ACT competitions and the Level 3 5 boys competed in an additional two NSW Grand Prix events. We finished with the MAG Level 2 ACT Champion (Caelan Riches) and also the top 3 places in Level 2. MAG ACT Level 4 Open Champion was Aiden Baker-Gabb with Lachlan Kerr coming in 2 nd. We also had the ACT MAG Level 5 Open Champion, Ryan O Loughlan, with Milo Whittingham coming in 3 rd in the same division. We are pleased to announce that four of the boys training in the senior squad have been selected for the MAG Team Future camp to be held in November at the AIS. The camp consists of training sessions led by Australia s top coaches and also education sessions for gymnasts and coaches. In the past we have found that the camp inspires the boys to train harder and gives them a short term goal to aim for each six months. China From 21 September through to 1 October a team of 33 WVGC gymnasts, coaches and parents set off for a training trip to China. The group stayed and trained most mornings at the Beijing Sport University and in the afternoons travelled around Beijing experiencing the tourist sites, shopping and food. The group was granted access to the Chinese National Training Centre where they watched some of China s training gymnasts at work, a highlight of the trip. The gymnasts had fun showing off skills such as handstands, back walkovers, splits and back saults in front of the Birds Nest at the Olympic Park, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Ming Tombs and some airports. Before we arrived, Quanzhi organised red hats for everyone and it was easy to identify the group as they moved around the many tourist attractions. Overall it was a fantastic trip, a special thank you to Bob Morton and Xiaoli Tang for arranging the trip, it would not have happened without you. The red hats on the Great Wall

Gymnastics for All Over Term the GFA program has been very busy! All Beginner, Junior and Senior classes were looking full including the few extra classes we opened to accommodate for the increase. In fact our numbers topped over 650 Gymnasts. 8 The start of Term 3 was building up to the Awards Day. Circuits were built to best practice the skills needed for the event. Over 210 of our gymnasts attended the Skills Day on the 5 th June and were awarded a Grading Medal, Participation Medal, a Certificate and a special Gift. The junior Performance Team performed at the Awards Day and it received a great response with some of our junior and senior gymnasts joining the Team for Term 4. In the upcoming Term we have our Gym Extravaganza at the end of Week 8. It will be conducted at WVGC and is open to all our KinderGym, Junior, Senior and Advanced GfA Gymnasts. Bring family and friend to watch great day of gymnastics, but most of all have loads of fun! Women s Artistic Gymnastics The Level s 1 5 competed over August and September. The Levels 1 & 2 participated in their last Club invitational of the year at Southern Canberra Gymnastics Club where the gymnasts had a fantastic time. The Levels 3 5 competed in three ACT competitions and achieved some fantastic results - Soda Ellis, Vi Do, Alana Bebek, Margaret Bartlett, Rose Phillips, Lillian Kelly, Charlotte Burrows and Claire Farrell placed 1 st 6 th on either individual apparatus or Overall. Congratulations girls on the effort through this competition season. With the completion of competitions and the end of Term 3 brings levels changeover. Congratulations to the gymnasts who earned a position in their new levels, keep up the effort in your new groups with your new coaches. Please remember to keep in contact with your coaches about how your gymnasts are handling the new hours. Fund Raising Activities We use fund raising to create those additional funds that to assist us to fund: the purchase new equipment; our gymnasts who represent the Club and the ACT at major competitions; and our coaches up-grade their skills and purchase Working With Vulnerable People Identification Cards, etc. The fact that we are able to raise additional funds through Club Sponsorships and Fund Raising means that we can keep our fees at a reasonable level. Our Fund Raising Activities include: Saturday Barbeques. We have a new system that we are trialing where parents for a Program at the Club are being rostered for a specific Term. This Term the Saturday Barbeques are being run by the parents from our Senior WAG Program. If you are rostered we would appreciate your assistance. This service to our members raises some $ $ every week. Selling Chocolates. You can collect boxes of chocolates for sale from the Front Office at any time. Take them to work, sell them and return the proceeds to the office. Each box sold earns us another $ The Saturday Barbeques and the selling of chocolates form the basis of our fund raising activities. On top of those activities, we also conduct a number of events in the gym which are really a service to our members. The next event is the Baby Sitting Night. It will be conducted on Saturday 29 October You can drop the kids off at the Club for a minimal fee and we will look after them while you go out for a night on the town. Each of these nights is great fun and normally raises about $1, for the Club. Lost Property We collect a large amount of misplaced clothing which is placed in a Clothing Basket just inside the door of the Boy s Change Room. Parents are more than welcome search through the items at any time in an attempt to recover a lost item. At the end of each term, the items are washed and hung in the hallway so that you can readily identify items. Any items not claimed within a week are donated to the Salvation Army. NOTE: THE BASKET IS FULL, SO DO A CHECK BEFORE WE SEND THE ITEMS OFF TO CHARITY! IF YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER LOSES ANY THING THAT THEY BRING INTO THE GYM, THEN THIS THE FIRST PLACE TO CHECK.
Epi Pens 9 If you child has as Epi Pen for treatment of allergic reactions, please make sure that it is placed in the Front Office in case on emergency here in the gym. Our senior staff are trained in its use but it is no good if it is not here when it is needed. It is your responsibility, as a parent, to ensure that we have one of your child s Epi Pens available for immediate use and that we are aware of the details your child s allergy. If the allergy is something that we can ensure is not brought into the gym, please let us know and we will advertise the fact.
