2 2015 Junior World Championships Team Jakarta, Indonesia November 8- November 16, 2015 One of our strongest assets is each other and our strong pride in being members of the United States National Team. As we travel to the World Championships please know you are not traveling as an individual but as part of something bigger. You carry with you the excited hopes, well wishes and prayers from many karate athletes, fans, parents and friends across the United States. Crimes of opportunity such as pick-pocketing and theft occur throughout the country. Organized crime remains a problem in Indonesia, most notably drug dealing and trafficking in persons. Armed car-jacking, theft of vehicles, residential break-ins, and"snatch-and-grab" robberies occur in Indonesia. Unmarked or freelance taxis continue to be a source of crime. If you are in Jakarta or Surabaya, hire a taxi either at a major hotel or shopping center queue, or call a reputable taxi company to arrange for transportation. There have been reports of taxis painted to look like reputable companies being used to rob travelers. These crimes often involve express kidnappings, where the armed criminals take passengers to a remote area to rob the victim. Criminals may also drive victims to ATM machines and force them to withdraw cash. If you are in Jakarta or Surabaya, hire a taxi either at a major hotel or shopping center queue.. Avoid using public transportation such as buses and trains, as pickpocketing commonly occurs in the crowded mass transit system and in restaurants or bars. 4 Money 1 Indonesian Rupiah = US Dollar The rupiah (Rp) is the official currency of Indonesia and is subdivided into 100 sen. The name derives from the Indian monetary unit rupee which is called as rupiya in Indian languages. Informally, Indonesians also use the word "perak" in referring to rupiah. Inflation has now rendered all coins and banknotes denominated in sen obsolete. Weather The forecast is for low' mid 70 s in the day to the low 60 s during the evening. Please check for more information as the trip gets closer so you can pack appropriately. Your team uniform is a lightweight jacket. Equipment The WKF is stating all WKF required equipment will be required for this Championship. Please make sure you have all of the standard equipment including a solid white gi with no embroidery with solid blue and red belts with no embroidery. If you have questions about the required gear contact the National Office immediately. USA Karate will be requiring the American flag patch instead of the federation patch. If you do not have one we will provide you with one on site in Jakarta. Entry Exit Visa Requirements You will need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of your arrival in Indonesia. The U.S. Embassy cannot obtain entry permission for U.S. citizens whose passports do not meet this requirement. Your passport must also have two blank pages, not including endorsement pages.. If your passport visa pages are nearly full, consider applying for a new passport before you travel If you arrive with a passport that is valid for fewer than six months or does not have two blank pages, Indonesian authorities will require you to depart Indonesia immediately to obtain a new U.S. passport or extra pages; you will not be allowed to enter Indonesia. Also, if your passport does not have the required validity, you may be denied boarding at your point of origin or at a transit point en route. You may be required to have a visa to enter Indonesia. The visa may be obtained either before you arrive or upon arrival. Holders of a regular passport who are traveling for tourism, business or social purposes may apply for a 30-day visitor Visa-on-Arrival at airports in Jakarta. Visa-on-Arrival is only for tourism, temporary business, or visits to Indonesian family, friends or social or educational institutions Visa-on-Arrival is valid for 30 days, and costs 35 USD. 6 Team USA Hotel Sapphire Sky Hotel BSD City Sapphire Sky hotel is strategically located in the prime area of Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD). Tangerang, only few minutes from the culinary center, shopping malls, international- standard hospitals, and it only takes 5 minutes from Serpong tollgates and CBD area. The team hotel was completed in August of 2015 and is only 10 minutes to the Indonesian Convention Exhibition. 9 Practices All athletes are expected to attend all scheduled practices. Coaches will discuss each upcoming practice with the team onsite. The practice area is still TBD. The space is limited so the team will be broken into smaller groups for training. Please see the following schedule for training times of your particular group. Transportation to and from practices will not be provided for parents. Weigh-ins Team USA Weigh-ins are scheduled for Thursday November 12th at 9:00 am at the Sport Hall. All Team USA athletes are required to weigh in at this time and location. Remember you are expected to arrive in Jakarta at your competition weight. If you are having trouble or are concerned about making your weigh' in, let your team leaders or one of the coaches know so we can help you develop a plan. No athletes should attempt to weigh in without a USA Team Coach present. All athletes will meet at the Sapphire Sky Hotel on Thursday morning at 7:45 am for weigh-ins.
