2 2015 Junior Pan American Karate Championships Santa Cruz, Bolivia August 24 August 30, 2014 Team One of our strongest assets is each other and our strong pride in being members of the United States National Team. As we travel to the Pan American Karate Championships please know you are not traveling as an individual but as part of something bigger. You carry with you the excited hopes, well wishes and prayers from many karate athletes, fans, parents and friends across the United States. Unfortunately, street crime 'which includes purse snatching, pick' pocketing and jewelry theft, is a major problem. Practicing good personal security awareness is a must during your stay in Santa Cruz and travel throughout Bolivia. The threat of street crime is greatest in areas that attract large crowds, particularly crowds of tourists or wealthy Bolivians. A crowd allows a thief (or thieves, since petty thieves often operate in a group) the opportunity to select and approach the potential victim without attracting attention. Only carry with you what you need. Whenever possible keep cash and identification in your front pockets. Do not carry credit cards or other items that you do not need or intend to use. A general rule to follow when you know you will be walking on the street is to never carry anything that you cannot afford to lose. It is recommended not to carry U.S. passports if they are not needed. If the police request identification, a copy of the passport is acceptable. A special travel note: Street taxis are not well regulated and are often used as a front by criminals to rob unsuspecting victims. The Embassy s Regional Security Officer recommends that all visitors use telephone- dispatched radio taxis or car services associated with major hotels and not hail taxis on the street. 4 Money The exchange rate is approximately 1 Boliviano to.15 USD. US Dollars can be changed in Bolivia without restrictions in hotels, banks, exchange offices or on the street. Some places don't accept US $100 bills. The safest way to change money is in banks and your hotel. Have some CASH and do not rely solely on a credit or debit card. If you are going to use a credit/debit card while there, don t forget to contact your bank and let them know you will be traveling to Santa Cruz, Bolivia so they do not flag your transactions as fraudulent and shut the card off. Weather The forecast is for low' mid 80 s in the day to the low 60 s during the evening. Please check for more information as the trip gets closer so you can pack appropriately. Your team uniform is a light weight jacket. Equipment The PKF is stating all WKF required equipment will also be required for this Championship. Please make sure you have all of the standard equipment including a solid white gi with no embroidery with sold blue and red belts with no embroidery. If you have questions about the required gear contact the National Office immediately. Entry, Exit, & Visa Requirements A valid passport and visa are required to enter and depart Bolivia. Tourists must also provide evidence of return or onward travel. Visit the Embassy of Bolivia Website for the most current visa information. Bolivia does not require any immunizations for entry, although it recommends vaccination against Yellow Fever.

5 Air Travel Transportation Athletes must find their own transportation from the airport to the hotel. It is suggested that you contact your hotel before traveling to have a shuttle set up. Please remember not to use street taxis and to call ahead for a shuttle to transport you and your group to and from the airport. If you booked your hotel through Vernoica the travel agent we provided you then transportation has been arranged for you to/from the venue. It is mandatory that ALL athletes attend all days of competition whether or not they are competing.

6 Hotel The US Team Delegation will be staying at the Hotel Bugan Villas. The address is listed below for your reference: Hotel Bugan Villas Address: Av Roca y Coronado between 3rd and 4th ring. 7 Practices All athletes are expected to attend all scheduled practices. Coaches will discuss each upcoming practice with the team onsite. The practice area will be at the Bugan Villas. The space is limited so the team will be broken into smaller groups for training. Please see the following schedule for training times of your particular group. Venue Venue: - Coliseum Jhon Pictor Blanco - Located approximately 20 minutes from hotel, plan accordingly - Address: Av. Brazil Between 1st and 2nd Ring Weigh -ins Team USA Weigh ins are scheduled for Wednesday August 26th at 7:45 am at the Bugan Villas hotel. All Team USA athletes are required to weigh in at this time and location. Remember you are expected to arrive in Santa Cruz at your competition weight. If you are having trouble or are concerned about making your weigh' in, let your team leaders or one of the coaches know so we can help you develop a plan. No athletes should attempt to weigh in without a USA Team Coach present. All athletes will meet at the Bugan Villas Hotel on Wednesday morning for weigh ins, unless directed otherwise at the team meeting or team practices.
