4 Welcome Fellow Dutch Breeders, Welcome The Michigan Dutch Rabbit Club extends a warm welcome to all Dutch Breeders. We invite you to join us April 27-29, 2018 in Kalamazoo, MI for the 89th National Dutch Show. Our headquarters hotel, the Clarion Inn, is easily accessed off I-94 and is located a short 2 minute drive from the showroom and banquet facility. The hotel is pet friendly and most rooms have a refrigerator and a microwave. Our club members have been hard at work for the past couple of years making sure that we provide for you a wonderful, quality show. We are again using a sliding scale for the entry fees as well as allowing changes to variety, class and ear number, at no charge, up to one week prior to the show. We have secured 5 open judges and 2 youth judges to help ensure that all judging will be completed in ample time before the banquet begins. You will not have far to go for the banquet as it will be held in Expo South which is adjacent to the showroom. We invite you to join us in the showroom on Friday evening for a light dinner and dessert before the general membership meeting, Fur, Fun and AOV classes. During the day on Saturday, we will have a studio photo booth available for exhibitor use to get great memento photos of your NDS winning rabbits. Our 2007 NDS still holds the record as the largest NDS ever held. We hope you will come for a weekend of fellowship and friendly competition, and help us break that 2007 record. We wish you safe travels to Michigan. Dedication The members of the Michigan Dutch Rabbit Club proudly dedicate the 2018 National Dutch Show to Janet Bowers Like many of us, Janet became part of our rabbit family when she purchased a Dutch rabbit for her child. In 1986, Janet purchased a blue buck named Rambo for her daughter, Chanda, beginning her wonderful adventure in our hobby. Shortly after Chanda started showing her Dutch in 4- H, Janet purchased some English Spots as her project, but Chanda fell in love with that breed so mom got the Dutch. When her son Matt started in 4-H she shared the Dutch with him for his rabbit project. Her beginning lines were chocolates from Tony Micallef, blues from Tommy D and a trio of steels from Amy Minter. For many years, Janet was the only breeder showing steels here in Michigan. From those humble beginnings, Janet s herd has grown to nearly 200 quality Dutch. She still has chocolates, a few blues, black and torts but her main variety is the Steel. She has won many top awards with her favorite variety. Janet has held several positions in the MDRC as well as other local clubs. She started serving as secretary/treasurer of the MI Dutch Rabbit Club in the mid 1990 s and five years later became the club president. She has been the General Chairperson for three of the four National Dutch Shows hosted by the MDRC. For the past 5+ years, she had held the position of secretary/treasurer of the American Dutch Rabbit Club. Her involvement in clubs goes beyond the MDRC. Janet is currently the secretary/treasurer for The Central Michigan Rabbit Breeders. From 2002 until 2010 she held the position of secretary for Great Lakes Rabbit and Cavy Shows and served as the Assistant Chairperson for the 2007 American Rabbit Breeders Association Convention hosted by that club and held in Grand Rapids. Janet has also served on the Michigan State 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Show committee and chaired the annual Scholarship Auction. Nearly every year the auction coordinators can count on Janet donating a quality Dutch rabbit. Janet s love of rabbits and our hobby is obvious as she is always willing to roll up her sleeves, pick up the dropped ball and take on any task, even though she may already have a full plate. She arrives early and stays late just to make sure the job is completed. Her honesty, integrity, generosity and willingness to share her knowledge of our wonderful breed has endeared her to many in our hobby. For all that she has done, and is currently doing to promote our Dutch breed, we dedicate the 2018 National Dutch Show to Janet Bowers NDS Catalog 2018 NDS Catalog 3
