1 NOVEMBER HOPEWELL MOOSE FAMILY CENTER NEWS HOPEWELL MOOSE LODGE VALUED VETERANS VISIT FORT LEE On 8 October, the Hopewell Valued Vets purchased & served pizza to our young military in the AIT program (Advanced Individual Training), at Ft. Lee. We served approximately soldiers whose average age was just 19 years old. It's been a long time since we have heard so many "Thank You's" from such a young group. We were hugged countless times. This was one of the BEST Saturday afternoons that any of us have experienced in a long time. This is just one part of our "Valued Veterans" program at the Hopewell Moose. If you would like to join us next time, and spend some time with our young soldiers; please join us on January 27th. WHAT DID YOU DO!?!? You did GOOD! Together, we did REAL GOOD! Our lodge, (Hopewell #1472), along with Sun Trust Bank and other organizations, assisted with providing a home to a veteran & his family. Army veteran Richard Gooding, like so many others, had experienced some difficult times after returning home. He suffered a few set-backs which lead to losing their family home. Richard along with his wife, two children & service dog, eventually began living in a fifthwheel camper in Texas. After being contacted by Jennifer Harper of Sun Trust Bank, our lodge was presented an opportunity to assist this family obtain a beautifully decorated & furnished home. A small token to give back for what this veteran has done for us all. The Gooding family was presented the keys to their home, Sat 14 Oct. 2 Administrator s Message Our plumbing project has come to a successful end. All our plumbing lines are now updated and some new fixtures have been added. Our lobby has a brand new tile floor and will soon go through an update of its own. The bingo hall now has an updated and fully functional cashier station to better help the customers. We will be working on having the sound system in the social quarters fixed, so that all areas of the SQ, can hear clearly. While keeping the lodge's history, we look to update our appearance. As a FRIENDLY REMINDER, to be fair to others and so everyone can enjoy themselves, please limit your jukebox play to just 5 songs at a time ON FREE JUKEBOX NIGHT. This way, others can hear their choices too, during the designated free-play time. Feel free to play more, just give others a chance by fairly rotating amongst yourselves. Also, please allow those playing the VTABS, some privacy while playing and don't loiter directly behind them. Most importantly, let's continue respecting each other. and having fun! Fraternally, Brad Ozmore, Administrator Governors Message SPECIAL MEETING We are having a Special Meeting, 16 7 pm and all LOOM are welcome & encouraged to attend. 8 Entertainment Committee Nov 17 JIM QUICK and the COASTLINE BAND will return to the ballroom. Jim has won the Entertainer of the Year Award for the past 14 consecutive years, and guess what? He is nominated for the Entertainer of the Year Award again this year. He and his band members are nominated for other prestigious awards. They play a blend of Beach, Country and Southern Soul music. We may get the treat of hearing a couple of King Tyrone and the Graveyard Ramblers songs. Come join the Coastline Crazies for a night of FUN!!! This will be a non-smoking event. Advanced tickets are $15, $18 at the door. No outside snacks or mixer. Dec 2 We are thrilled to welcome BACK N DA DAY, back to our ballroom for another evening of fun and entertainment. Bak N Da Day is a group of 5 seasoned musicians that plays the best of the 50 s and 60 s. This is NOT a country, beach, R & B or variety band. They play ALL OLDIES and Motown. Bak N Da Day starts at 8 and plays until 10:30. DJ Brute Vaughn, another Doo-Wop enthusiast, will open for the group and play the breaks. Advanced tickets are only $10, $12 at the door. This will be a non-smoking event. Come and enjoy a night of fun and memories! No outside snacks or mixer. Dec 15 The band JACKASS FLATS from Richmond will make their first appearance in our ballroom. Jackass Flats is flat out fun. They have coined the term PartyGrass and it fits them to a T. PartyGrass is what happens when a long-established and popular bluegrass band blends a melting pot of influences, evolves into a fully electrified outfit, and then works its magic on songs across all genres. Jackass Flats keeps toes tapping and the dance floor filled. As amazed audiences will attest, you will be hard pressed to find anything quite like Jackass Flats. This will be a no-charge, open to the public event. Bring a donation to support our local Animal Shelters. We are looking for dog/cat food, treats or just a donation gets you entry into this event. This will be a no-smoking event. No coolers allowed. Doors open at 7 and the band will take the stage form 8 until midnight. No outside snacks or mixer. Dec 31-New Year s Eve Celebration- Tickets will go on sale Nov 7th in the office for reserved seats. No tickets will be sold over the phone until November 21st. FEATURE ATTRACTION BAND will be bringing the entertainment for this party. They were here for last year s New Year s Eve Dance and we have had numerous requests for them to come back. They perform a blend of music and entertainment that will please everyone. They have several recordings out that are on the Top 20 s charts. This group performs frequently in Eastern Virginia and North Carolina, developing a huge fan base! They will bring a New Year s Celebration to our lodge that we will talk about for a long time! This will be a non-smoking event. Tickets price TBD and only 350 tickets will be sold. No outside snacks or mixer. Autumn is upon us and we have the frosty mornings, fall colors and falling leaves to prove it. I m sure the turkeys are getting nervous because Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Don t forget the shorter days and long, long nights. No need to stay home wishing there was something to do on those long nights, because there is. We are having fun at the Hopewell Moose Lodge every night of the week! Sunday and Tuesday nights are Bingo nights. On Mondays, don t forget the Queen of Hearts drawing. The jackpot is growing and you may as well be the winner! Wednesday and Friday nights, we offer fine meals and DJ entertainment for your dancing and listening pleasure. The second and fourth Thursday nights we have Trivia Night in the Social Quarters to test your knowledge as well as entertain and compete against your friends for prizes. There is never a cover charge for any of our Social Quarters Events! We also have Ballroom events planned for the upcoming months. Advanced tickets are available for ballroom events by calling the office and you can reserve your favorite seats and tables at no additional cost. The ballroom seating chart is on our website on the entertainment page. Everyone come out for lots of fun, great food, dancing and listening pleasure with all your best friends. Any last minute additions or corrections to the calendar that miss the deadline for the newsletter or will be posted on our Hopewell Moose Facebook page. We hope to see you at every event! Art Seward, Entertainment Chairman 8

9 "Moose Fishing Trip" Last month, September 13th, some of our members set off on the Hampton Roads "Ocean Eagle". Congrats ladies for winning the "Catch of the Day" title! Thank you to our chairman JD Langley for setting this event up for all to enjoy! This trip was totally free to seniors, and just $45 for everyone else- with lunches & beverages provided. You can't beat that! Added bonus? The weather even cooperated! Dawn Ozmore, Donors Circle Are you aware that Moose International is offering four easy donation levels for those who want to do a little more with their donations? The Donors Circle is a recognition program of Moose Charities recognizing donors like you for your individual Tax-deductible Endowment Fund donations. The Defending Circle Society Includes donors who create gifts such as bequests (via will, estate, retirement plan), various types of trusts, charitable gift annuities, and life insurance. A distinctive Defending Circle Society lapel pin has been created to appropriately recognize Defending Circle Society members. Defending Circle Society members will be recognized with a perpetual memorial listing in the Moose Charities Annual Report. Leave a legacy for future generations Consider joining me and others, by enrolling in one of the Donor Circle programs with a minimum of a $10 monthly donation. Your gifts will be greatly appreciated by your lodge and Moose Charities. 9
